I remeber just a few months ago people telling me how great FFXIV was going to be because of all SE's success running the previous FF mmo.
Personally I have been disappointed in many of Sony Online Entertainments games, where as I have loved every single BioWare game I have played. Now granted that is a VERY subjective statement, but until BioWare disappoints me and therefore ruins their credibility, I will trust them to make a good product. I will say though that BioWare does pretty poorly in one department and that is marketing. That is why I am GLAD that Electronic Arts is taking the full reins on this particular aspect of it.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
Care to explain why people are so hard on with Bioware? Only really good product(s) they ever made was Baldurs Gate -series. NWN was like meh and all the rest could be described as 'good story, mediocre gameplay'.
And no, I'm not trolling.
To be fair NWN wasn't that great in single player, but what made it great was the multiplayer experience. The ability to create your own community, craft your own worlds, script encounters and be the DM for 40+ people, inventing quests for the community as you go. It was like virtual D&D and I loved it.
As far as the combat goes it is really hit or miss with some people. Personally I enjoy planning out attacks and taking my time with situations and it is a direct translation of D&D so dice rolling is a given. That being said it was also about class customization as well. I literally spent hours trying to create the best classes with perfect synergy because of all the options we had to choose from.
I've enjoyed every game Bioware put out because the style resonates with me, but I can see how it doesn't for some people. Although I have to admit I don't like the direction they have been going for their newest releases like ME2 and DA:O. I really disliked how they dumbed down the class systems and limited weapon/armor varieties.
I am hyped on both SWs and BW. BW is my favorite game maker currently. The Fallout series would be ranking up there with BW games if they didnt crash so much.
BW gives me a solid gaming sexperience everytime, and that isnt even mentioning the memorable characters.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
I'm interested for many reasons, firstly is that it's Bioware, secondly is that it's Star Wars, thirdly is because it's Sci-Fi and a nice refreshing change of pace from all of the Fantasy games, fourthly is because I really, really like the direction of the game and all of the information that has been released to date and fifthly is because I know that Bioware isn't going to cave into hardcore demands and make any part of the game exclusively for them, it's just not in their design philosophy.
These are the reasons why I am stoked about this game, I don't care if it's not a huge step forward in the genre and I don't care if it has simplified crafting or mini games on rails (space) or that it has stylized graphics with lower polygon counts or if it has motion capture animations for PC's and mobs. All I care about is that someone is finally making a MMO with me in mind.
Yes i was born by then, just didn't know that there were other game besides the bioware one. Whatever, what i meant is that they did NWN 1 that released in 2002 and other company did NWN2 a few years after.
I don't know why, but the only thing thats kept my interest in this game is that it's made by Bioware. I loved the original Neverwinter Nights,
Bioware did not do the original Neverwinter Nights, they didn't even exist yet. It was made by SSI.
Ahhhh Strategic Simulations Inc. how i used to love their strategy games on my commadore 64 and Amiga
I finally threw out my old Commodore 64 last year. My wife won't let me hang on to old memories anymore. I did manage to hang on to my Star Wars soundtrack LP, KISS alive LP, and a few 8-tracks though... She's not getting her grubby hands on those. :P
The game doesn't look that great to me. But like so many others here have said...it's Bioware and it's Star Wars. I will probably even buy a collector's edition when it is introduced. That's how much faith I have in Bioware.

LOL i really know the feeling , I lost my total geek collection of computers (from spectrum to the laptops that weigh 20kg ) when i moved to spain , Its ok you will live trough the lost of your comodore 64 get a emulation software
Beats the old 5 1/4 disk and slow loading tapes .
But dont let her throw away those LP´s they are worth a fortune to DJ´s :P so ebay them when the times really come .
Say that to your wife , before in a hissy fit she decides to clean the house
Pretty much basing my interest on Biowares rep right now because I had given up on 'ideal' MMO's. I am a SW fan to an extent as I grew up on it, but that is really secondary. I only know that bioware delivers amazing story driven games, and the story content alone will most likely be worth the $59 retail and first month sub. Especially if this MMORPG is larger than every single game they have made so far combined, like they have said.
A lot of people are going to be scratching thier heads when the NDA for this game drops. BioWare has done a masterful job of hiding information. A lot of haters will probably change their mind....its not entierly what it seems.
Come on seriously... You know exactly what Neverwinter nights he is talking about. Generall when someone says NWN they think bioware. If someone references NWN, expect it to be about bioware unless stated specifically that its the AOL classic. Pulling out the original title name is really irrelevent to the purpose of the point being made.

I figure as much, bioware does a really good job at hiding in trump cards. My only real concern is that the 8v8 'warzones' will be the deep end of the PVP pool. I can hardly consider 8v8 a 'war zone' personally.

Right now i think they've shown one to give an example of what the war zones will be like. I can't say for certain but they have stated another war zone will take place in a ship. So it's possible there could be more. I can't say for certain the size of it though.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I don't know why, but the only thing thats kept my interest in this game is that it's made by Bioware. I loved the original Neverwinter Nights, the Mass effect games and Dragon Age Origins is just superb, not to mention the masterpiece KOTOR. But is keeping interest in this game, especially been a MMO solely because it's developed by Bioware a bad thing? Bioware is one of my favourite developers behind Blizzard and it's really the only reason I still have interest in this title. People are giving the game negative opinion and feedback because of graphics and looks too colorful or cartoony, but really, this is Bioware were talking about, who have made nothing but masterpieces in the past.
When World of Warcraft released, the sole reason many thousands bought the game was because of Blizzard itself and the reputation it had at the time. In WoW's early stages it was far from perfect, but many stuck it out and more flocked in simply because the developer was blizzard. My only question is will SW TOR draw in many players who play Bioware's games on say the console and PC who are still not familiar with MMO's. The generic WoW mmo crowd may hate this game and call it a failure etc etc but I really see this game doing quite well simply because Bioware is involved.
I honestly think that's a good reason.
In the past, we've all be disappointed with new games from well known MMORPG developers including SOE's EQ2, Funcom's AoC, Mythic's WAR, Turbine's AC2, and as a result we're all pretty jaded when it comes to big name MMORPGs from big name companies, but I think the "key" difference is the fact that outside of a single game that some people really enjoyed, those MMORPG companies weren't exactly storied development houses. In short, most of those companies released one game, and hit it big, and people were disappointed when their next big title didn't meet expectations. In the video game world, that tends to happen quite often though.
BioWare, on the other hand, has really never made a "bad" game in its history as a video game company. Sure, BioWare has made a few games that didn't please "everyone" like ME2 and Dragon Age (though from a certain perspective, it's impossible to please everyone), but every game they've released has received incredibly high marks from video game critics and has produced a rabid fanbase.

did you play the beta then?
Actually BioNut has stated that he is in the beta. Whether thats true or not, i can't say. But thats what he claims, so i'm going with it for now.

A bit off topic but remember the Mass Effect 2 trailer? The 1st one?
Where you had a 'Geth' in Shepard's armor and Shepard was 'KIA'?
The firestorm of that was insane! So yes, they are very good at hiding information.

Everything about that game looks bad, expect it's producer..
Good thing the majority disagrees.

REALITY CHECK
Wrong, the original Neverwinter Nights was made by Bioware. Bioware exists since 1995...
Original Neverwinter Nights was made in 1991, you obviously weren't born yet either.
