None of the above is one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard of when it comes to voting!
The way I see it when you are voting and you don't like the candidates is 1. Don't Vote, 2. Vote for the lesser of evils/or your party lines/leaning 3. Write in your own candidate
Voters shouldn't be given a choice of none of the above. To me none of the above means "my candidate for MMO of the year that DID launch in 2010 is not listed here". But how many people that voted this option can actually give the name of an MMO that launched in 2010 that deserves the award? If anyone could, then the option should have been Other MMO and the voter should have been able to write in the name of that MMO as a candidate.
Yes, 2010 was a bad year for MMO launches, but the games that did launch in 2010 should be weighed on. There are players that do like some of these games and their voices should be heard. A president does not simply go unelected just because a majority of voters don't like the options.
I think you are posting in the wrong thread. This thread is about the MMO that is the most anticipated, not the best MMO that launched in 2010.
SW: TOR is also more well known outside of the MMO crowd because it's star wars and bioware. Doesn't make it a better game, or the one that blew everyone away at the various conventions this year.
Time will tell of course, but out of the two my bets on gw2 being the better game.
I think that this may be more representative of all-gamers because TOR has two things really working for it to make it have massive appeal: 1) Star Wars IP, and 2) Bioware. I think that people that are Star Wars and/or Bioware fans will easily be pulled into this game and for some it could be his or her first MMO (much like WoW was for many). This site is more about people that are already players in MMOs and based on experiences in other games GW2 looks like something that is different from what we are used to playing.
Considering how anti SW:TOR MMORPG.com is, im not suprised by this result. I couldnt play GW past the fall or whatever it was, and im sure I will dislike GW2 just as much.

I think the game more then deserves it. GW2 is going to be a huge deal for MMOs, plain and simple.
I am surprised Rift managed to beat out TERA and DC Universe Online though. But then again, not many have played Rift yet either. Suppose I am one of the "lucky" few.

Never said that other MMOS don't have these type of people. But i have been playing MMO for long time and i have never seen such a hostile community for a MMO which is atleast 6 months away from release. And no it is not just these forums i am talking about.
GW2 is going to be my main MMO along with SWTOR and Rift in 2011 but honestly i am not too excited about the community part.
While I can't speak for GW2 (No one can since it isn't out) it stands to reason that GW1 community is a good basis for comparison and the B2P model doesn't appear to have an adverse effect on the community as a whole. I've had some good and bad community interactions in P2P games depending on the game so I don't believe the price of entry is doing anything to improve or ruin the community.
Not at all surprised by this. Still, I don't think this is necessarily representative of feelings outside of this site. I would wager that TOR probably has the lead outside of this particular community...
That said, I am very excited for both games. I just hope that either of them can live up to the hype.
I was really, really excited by SWTOR when it was first announced, as I'm a huge Bioware and Star Wars fan, but then Arenanet started fleshing out more and more of the details about what they were doing with Guild Wars 2, and I honestly forgot about The Old Republic. The Old Republic looks like an amazing traditional MMO, that brings enough cool ideas along with the stellar Star Wars setting and Bioware's pedigree that it could actually compete with WoW. Guild Wars 2, while not nearly as well known to the general gaming public, has the "potential" (key word there) to outdo them both. From all of the previews and demo playthroughs, it sounds like Arenanet have really managed to take all of the best ideas from GW1, added all of the best parts of a persistent seamless world like WoW, and then removed almost all of the headaches and boring bits of traditional MMOs.
I'm eager to play SWTOR, while I'm madly chomping at the bit to play GW2. Of the other three, Rift could be interesting, I know nothing about TERA, and DCUniverse barely interests me.
Yet on Massively, last year Most anticipated was Star Trek Online, and this year it's SWToR...
I trust the general opinion of massivelys user base about as much as I trust the opinions of most MMORPG.com uses, lets just put it that way lol. I dont know which game will be "best of 2011", but to be honest that "award" means nothing, the best mmo of 2011 for me will my choice and mine alone.

there's absolutely no way to know until you actually play the game. Even then, if you feel it has failed miserably there will be people who enjoy it for years.
I think it needs to be stated and clarified....Guild Wars 2 is NOT a Korean game. It is being made in Bellavue, Washington. The developer studio is called ArenaNet...They have nothing to do with Aion, Linenage, or City of Heroes. They are merely published by NCsoft which happens to be Korean.

This is pretty much the same as how I feel (or felt) when it comes to both games.
When I went to Gamescom, I was really looking forward to playing SW:TOR. I was indifferent to GW2, considering I wasn't a massive fan of the first game (not my kind of genre, but a well made game nonetheless). But then when I managed to play both games, my opinions on both games switched. I was absolutely blown away by GW2. One of the best demos I have ever played. I enjoyed TOR too, but it felt rather underwhelming in comparison to GW2 (it was pretty much what I expected it to be though, ironically, it just didn't wow me like GW2 did).
I'm looking forward to both games. GW2 is just higher on my priority, so far. No reason why it shouldn't be from my point of view. : )
Considering how anti SW:TOR MMORPG.com is, im not suprised by this result. I couldnt play GW past the fall or whatever it was, and im sure I will dislike GW2 just as much.
Yeah. Theres a huge collection of TOR haters on this site, even though we still don't know much about the game. Conversly, theres a large number of GW2 fanboys that have been hyping this game for ages now. Theres no comparison between the level of hype for each game. I suspect I will get bored with GW2 as fast as I did with GW1 while TOR seems much more promising for me.
As a side note, I find all the nasty comments coming from GW2 fans to be consistent with what I've seen with the GW1 in game community. Its regularily worse than the worst of WoW trade chat. I hope all those people choose to play GW2 exclusively and stay away from the games I will be playing.

I truly think it's because of all the games listed, GW2 has shown me the most. Letting me see 2 hours of pure gameplay, sound and HD and no annoying salesmen talking during it is what made me go WOW, I need to play that.
Funny, that footage was exactly what made me decide I had no interest whatsoever in this game. I felt like I was looking at just another one of those F2P asian crap games that we're being bombarded with.
Were you watching said footage on a 1995 computer? GW2 looks amazing, if you are running a computer built this decade. Comparing it to an asian F2P pretty much reduces your belivability rating to zero, at best.
Top 5 WoW clones..and WoW's graphic are better than TOR or DC..
Methinks you have no clue.
I agree. WOWs graphics are not that good and both TOR, DC, AND GW2 haven't even come out yet. Now I think WOW is a good game but TOR and GW2 are going to be great and DC is going to be pretty good to. Now I think TOR is the better game then GW2 because I love BioWare and their KOTOR games. Also I'm a big star wars fan too. However I do respect that GW2 is going to be a very good game. It might have even been "THE" WOW killer if TOR wasn't coming out first. GO TOR!!!!!

Oh Snaylor, you and your facebook fans. I do wonder why the facebook fans couldn't help SWTOR in the rankings.
This is not a game.

ROFL good point Chocobo!! thats pricless.

Awesome. Not surprised, but still awesome.

I wouldn't count on that.

My personal experience with the GW1 community has been great and I'm not alone in that thought. Best MMO community of the decade by a long shot went to GW http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/03/massivelys-2010-players-choice-awards-results/#continued

That might have more to do with the requirement for hitting a certain amount of facebook fans to release information about the game. Nope, not at all.

Again, there's NOTHING Korean with GW1 or GW2.

best of luck for GW2!!
first game in a while willing to think out of the box. What a breath of fresh air!
