Lol at that advert = awesome.
Its not calling blizzard out its making a statement from "We're not in kansas anymore".
Remember how every other kiddie was shouting waaargh! (or something like that), thinking that WAR would pwn WoW?
And now there's like 4 people still playing WAR. I expect Rift to end up more or less the same.
Not a chance Rift will defeat WoW. WoW is ten times less linear than Rift. It has a bigger world with more choices over where to go for one thing.

I still play Warhammer. You know I was half interested in Rift until I did a little searching that didn't include advertising trailers and hype. Why don't you all just go to youtube and type in Rift Planes of Telara leaked, or Rift Planes of Telara beta or Rift Planes of Telara gameplay. It looks absolutely awful. I'll stick with Warhammer. Compare that with that epic trailer. Yeah. We aren't in azeroth anymore are we? I don't even think we are in Nordland.
That's the big problem with blizzard, they "borrow" everything they see from other games and books. Even the orcs and elfs were "borrowed" from warhammer lore. Anyway, this RIFT guys are not going to sell more saying things like "we're not in azeroth anymore", i'm not a WoW fanboy but when i saw that quote i had a good laugh.
Trion Worlds are new at this and they shouldn't be fighting Blizzard as they appear to be. I've played beta and I admit I'm not loving it yet but I don't want to see Trion humiliated like this.
They're not going to beat the behemoth. This is a ladybird fighting a grizzly bear. And the bear is hungry.
I would say only ArenaNet or Bioware have any real hope of knocking the behemoth down. Even if I was loving Rift I would say that.

Huh? first of all people behind Trion are not new to MMO industry secondly the commercial is not a dig at blizzard but at those who keep comparing Rift to WOW all the time. Even Trion is not stupid enough to try to beat WOW. Moreover, the main guy at Trion is friends with Blizzards and i am sure they are chucking over the video while people here are getting red in the face.
And no not even Anet or Bioware can put a dent on WOW. Sorry not gonna happen.

That's the newbie zone. Even WAR's 6 newbies zones (before smashing them into 2) were a snorefest. This one is actually very interesting with the way they do it. They explain a lot and show you what the world has become.
The only thing I miss are RvR lakes against a fort/keep. Ahh DAoC I will miss thee. Rift is a pretty good game and Trion really listens to the playerbase. I am really impressed with the amount of communication and effort that have put forth. That alone sets them apart from most other MMOs.
I expect their launch to be filled with queues and them to have 15 servers that are packed. Time will tell if that number needs to go up or down. On launch day you'll be waiting 1-2 hours to get in. Such is life of a new MMO.
They're new to making MMOs. You can have all the industry background you can get but it's still going to be your first MMO and you're still going to be judged as newcomers. Trion have no pedigree.
Whether or not this is a joke or a call to those saying this is just WoW, it's not the thing to be doing. If I have read it as a competition thing then others are going to read it as that. Just look at the furor there already is about this one video. There are nearly 60 pages of it on the Rift forums.
It was better left unsaid either way.

Haha this whole campaign cracks me up. The game plays exactly like WoW, but it is more boring. I give players 1-2 days until they feel like they are in an alternate Azeroth that is less fun and less original. Yes, less original than WoW.
I don't think you get it.
Alot of people on forums have been spamming threads calling the game a WoW Clone, TRIONs response is simply "This isn't WoW this is Rift"
Hence the "We're not in azeroth anymore"
I might pre-order this game just for their sense of humour being so good

And? as if there was not enough furor without the videos. it only gives those who didn't like RIFT another reason to slam it. Players can look at it anyway they want but that dosn't mean TRION is trying to go in direct competetion with Blizzard. it is just common sense. Why do they even need to? the guys behind Trions are veterans and they have done their market research and i am quite sure they are not childish or naive enough to go head on with WOW.
This video was just meant for light fun but as usual it is too hard to have fun these days.

Light fun isn't always percieved as light fun. This has nothing to do with whether I like the game or not. I just think it was a starnge choice.
I just think it will come back to bite them in the arse. If I am proven wrong, then good.

I think the whole were not in azeroth thing is funny as all get out. It took some stones to make that statement. Anybody who has played the betas knows its not a wow clone, its more a warhammer clone than anything.
Now will it live up to that hype, I very much dont think so.
At best this weill be a nitch game until swkotor comes out.
I think it's funny, but I don't think they did it because a ton of people were comparing the game to WoW...
Really, if it's a dig at World of Warcraft, it is quite a lighthearted one. However, I don't think it's an actual threat or attempt to pilfer customers away from Warcraft. Instead, it appears to me as a hype generator and way of separating Rift from Warcraft.
In a world where Warcraft is dominant, new mmos, especially fantasy mmos, need to show that there's something about Rift that's different.
In terms of generating publicity, I think it's worked. As an example, look at all you guys talking about it in this thread.

I don't think the OP means to pilfer WoW players . Rift seams at this early state to actually be a decent game . If this is born out over the next year as I think it will be and once theres a free trial or word gets around I'm quite confident that many people such as me starting the year of in Azeroth such as me will end it Telara . No amount of trolling or flaming (either way) will obscure the truth about Rift and from where I'm standing at the moment this really does seam to be the first mmo with the kind of potential I saw in WoW six years ago . Finally some real competition for Blizzard . Its a good thing too they've been resting on thier laurels too long . Cataclysm in my opinion really has'nt been as good an expansion as the previous two I think in a couple of months there will be plenty like me wanting something fresh and new . Think I've found my new home .

I dont think that Trion is really hoping that the adolescents of WoW that have a greater potential appreciation for shallow gaming will flood Rift, so no worries.
Ugh, what the hell is the point of that? Don't know who approved putting that stupid text on an otherwise great advertisement, but if I ran Trion they would be looking for work.

slpr, blizz didnt borrowed orcs n elves from warhammer lore... mythology of orcs and elves existed way before the creator of warhammer was even born.... so that statement of urs is plain wrong. every game borrows from everything, but ur statement of orcs n elves is wrong
The statement is made to be taken literally.
This game, the world in the game....is not Azeroth.
I think that is one of the biggest draws for people that want a break from the WoW world and it's lore.
Many say that lore in a game is not why they play.....but.
We look at all the games that had lore way before the games existed and there are already fans based on the lore.
WoW.....had all the Warcraft game lore
Lord of the Rings had the books and movies behind it.
Warhammer had the pen and paper stuff behind it as well as some rts
So lore is important and new lore and new worlds are a fantastic thing.
Look at Avatar.....many people thought fantasy sci-fi couldn't be outdone by Star Wars until Avatar.
So it was a clever dig but mainly a literal statement.
Wow not linear? What? WoW is as linear as it ever gets. You constantly follow the same path, with alittle variation where to go next. Tactics online that all guilds except the one posting it follow, so all guilds do the raids the same way, as if it was only one way to do a raid. Only thing that is less linear in wow is the pvp in that case, but with all kids rolling OP classes it basicly facerolling every other bg fight. Saying wow is ten times less linear than any other game is just plain wrong, don't get me wrong, I like wow, I love the lore. But it is not dynamic. Phasing is not dynamic, just a way to evolve the gameexperience while you do the same quests you did with one of your other alt. But I give you that WoW's world is big. But it is linear, same thing over and over. But now with phasing to make it seem dynamic, but whats dynamic with that when the same phasing will occure on your other chars?
We all know that Orcs and other common fantasy races were not invented by Games Workshop. The problem is how much Blizzard's Orcs look like those of GW's, for example.

This is more than just inspiration here, and it's just one example among a sea of many. They blantantly borrowed a lot from GW. Hell, they were originally making a Warhammer mmorpg but GW bailed on them, so they just turned it into WoW.
