No way in hell I'm going to preorder an indie MMO without trying it first.
TBH this mentality is why youre seeing MMO's reluctant to run open beta's, beta is a testing phase, not a free trial.
Maibe 10 years ago, but now open beta are trials. With all the crapy release we seen the last 5 years i cant blame anyone for that.
This is with this kind of mentality that we see unfinished product with no way to try it before paying. Even single player game has a demo.
First off by that right there, no wonder games fail you people use it for a trial and not to test and reports bugs, You rather come to a forum and SAY that Game sucks! IT WILL FAIL!!!
I would hate to be a dev! gamers today want everything free, next time you buy a game from steam or online, or for your console make sure u get a trial before u play it so you can say that game sucks it will fail!
/roll eyes...
None of you have tested you have no idea how it is, they delayted it for many reasons people complained it was not release now they complain when it releases .. Your worse than my grand mother, mom and wife all nagging at the same time..
Geez.. make up your minds, your worse than a old lady..
did you have to be so aggressive? First i never say this game suck and blablabla maibe you do huh? second open beta this day are 1 or 2 week before release so how the hell they will fix bugs before that? Explain me that big genius..
so stop you shit pal major flaws and are supposed to be fix in alpha and closed beta not open beta. Open beta is supposed to be for stress test and minor bugs. Still this days people use it for trial and no one can deny that.
Beta is supposed to be a testing grounds for the game. For bugs & stress tests. We as the all mighty public has decided that it is our right to "play" a beta and see if we like the game.

"play" & "test" two different things.
Yeah like i said this was at first but not anymore, the standard has change and you cant blame the player for that. Too much crap games this days.
but: how do you test without playing? lol how will you give player-feedback? besides this: the most bug reports need only 5 lines of text. the client creates the logfiles automatically.
Too bad. Korea (their government) gave its mmo game devs about 800 billion dollars to create MMO games. Games like Vindictus, Blade and Soul a boatload more. You can see videoes of all the next gen MMOs that haven't been annouced in english yet on youtube. They look pretty amazing. Some dont, but most look promising if they ever hit the states and other countries.
I just wish game devs from other countries had that kind of money to create their dream games. Theres just no way, its a game dev's dream to create mediocre piles of crap.
Well nothing new here. Seems all MMO's released anymore are not ready, and open beta is now release day. Best thing to do is wait for the reviews before you buy.
For those who think the government should regulate this, all that will happen is few if any MMO's will ever get released.
The reason that this continues to happen is because people keep buying and paying subscription fees for these unfinished / incomplete games.
PLEASE STOP SUPPORTING FAIL WITH MONEY. Just because they are an indy dosent mean they know what they are doing. The evidence, or complete lack of it, indicates an extremely high probability of MO flavored "epic fail". IF the game was awesome they would have made sure everyone knew it! If we stop throwing money at the medeocer they will have to step up thier game or leave the market making market share room for real developers to advance the genre'. As long as we keep buying crap, they will keep force feeding crap to us.
Don't buy it unlees you want to pay them for being an Alpha tester and I don't want to see you on here bitching months from now that they don't listen to the player base that paid them to develop the game.

You are talking shit.
I love this game, and it is even fun in beta.
Now gtfo. I might be a tad drunk (3 A.M here), but I am tired of this. People who know nothing of this game... Come and and try to be smart or something. Please, stick to stuff you know of.
I have yet to see a beta member post on these forums, yet everyone seems to know about the current state of the game.
I have faith that players will at least be given a week or two to try the game, as no MMO in this day and age should go without a trial. Anyways, I'm still waiting for that great sci fi MMO that doesn't involve piloting space ships, so I'll probably pick the game up regardless of whether it has a closed beta.
I'll just wait for the first couple months of reviews. :-)
... if it's good, it won't be going away. I don't have to be first in to have fun.
I have to agree with this... If they don't beta I'll have to wait. I'm not paying for another sloppy, unfinished, bound to fail..., game!
On a side note: I did apply for the Earthrise beta a long time ago. And I do take "testing" seriously. But I suspect they haven't really even "tested" this game at all. We shall see.

yet another person who has no clue....EARTHRISE has been in CLOSED BETA for quite a while now...
I'm not going to say I read every comment, but I seem to miss one glaring point in the comments:
Masthead is the company developing Fallout Online for Interplay. If this tanks like so many people expect from something "rushed out the door without much in the way of public beta," then I don't think it's going to fair well for Interplay, either.
However, I think that Masthead might have a winner if they play it right. I've been watching this game (and the total lack of information) for a few years now. I'm interested, but I'm also with the ones that aren't going to go in for a whole preorder for something and someone unproven. If they go the route of indies like EVE and Darkfall, they very well could be here in 4 or 5 years with a successful game. Only time is going to tell.
I've done a lot of closed beta testing over the years. As many companies, large and small, have retained the NDA up until launch as have let it drop weeks or months early. Nearly all those games are still around in one form or another. Of those that have kept a tight lid on things, a few I'd say are barely squeeking by, one or two have become big hits. (defining big hit as having enough income to continually release new content and keep a reasonable level of customer service.) Don't read Masthead's tight lips as a failing project. As others have said, let the reviewers do their job.
I remember the very first computer I ever bought had a 20GB harddrive.
I mean, i've got plenty of space to spare at the moment, but its interesting seeing how these space requirements keep creeping up and up
Um, most MMOs released in the last 3yrs take at least 10gigs. I think AoC when fully patched is 25gigs..or was it 15...lol, I don't remember.
The more a game puts into visuals the larger it'll be. Can't wait to see the visuals of a game that 'bare-minimum' requires 1TB /drool
1+ terabyte games may not be just around the corner, but they're coming.
Side note... It's a shame that the fun doesn't scale along with the hdd space requirements *sigh*
But once in a blue moon it actually looks good for all the space its hogging up. Sounds good too, who cares about gameplay anymore? Pretty soon we will all be paying good money to play fancy versions of farmville
So I wonder when the NDA will be dropped and journo previews be out? (not that there are many MMO journo's that I trust). Personally I don't buy in to this 'open beta is a God given right' idea. If the game is completely crappy you can usually find a reason to return it and if it's OK but just not me I don't mind paying 30 quid to discover that (as long as I get a week or two's fun). Having said that even an Indie company needs to lift the wraps before release.

20GB of space required? Good lord.

How about the first computer I bought had only a 20MB harddrive
Back in the time of Amiga500 and 286 / 386 DX computers, you were lucky to afford a 20MB or 40MB harddrive and that was huge for that time lol.
Most games, like Commander Keen and such.... I could play from floppy hehe.
Did they have any sort of beta? Smells like a rushed release. Shame.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall.
Oh, and "lol" at their music download...please 128kbps; TERA did 320/256kbps...already starting to dislike this game and the company :

I dont know its SCI FI but judging on last couple pictures and video . i have to give the nay sayer right .
It smells like a last ditch attempt to get cash , before they go downunder .
So if you have no expectation and are not that cash strapped , hmmm wait i am talking about meself .
>.< I still dont know , i will decide end this month if i am willing to give it a go or not .
But I am really thinking this is just throwing money away

Then give us a clue , if you can´t cause of NDA then dont say we dont have a clue .
So far all i am getting the picture from video and review , is a unbalanced sandbox game.
With ok graphics (this my personal opnion , i can stand the graphics) set with halo style suits are there mechs/Robot suits.
Look am bored so i dont mind to grind a couple month till swtor comes out , and its my money and my time.
But so far i dont know , yes i can opt in for beta but i choose to forgo beta´s in these modern days .
Simply put am not interested anymore in beta´s
So please inform what makes this game ok above average , about saying average am really polite .
So my expectation are set really really low on this one .
