i dont see my toons as extensions of me or any hidden feelings i have, im happily married but i do see my toons as partners in crime and what the class i roll pretty much determines what i roll m/f, my priest and mage are female in wow, but my druid, warrior and hunter are male toons, but it means nothing to me, the only people it bothers are the ones that pile that much time into a mmo its the only place they can meet a woman lol

so to them - stop playing computer games and go meet some real women instead of hoping on 1's and 0's - ha

    Playing: FFXIV
Future: wishing for SWG 2, World of Warcraft Classic
Played: Most current and extinct MMO's - 18 Years in....

    Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's

theres no excuse, just that one glaring fact, that you internally, feel the need to portray yourself as something you are not, all the excuses are just thrown out to hide the underlying nature.

I think the pertinent words are "pretending to be a woman".

Part of pretending to be a woman is acting like a woman and admitting to being a woman even when you are a man.

Oh and by the way, just in case weren't paying attention in history/english class, there was a time in history when women couldn't be actors. So men had to "pretend" to be the women in order to put on plays and performances.

Conversely, there are some operas where women sang some male roles.

Remember, when I said women weren't allowed to act?

Well, young boys would be used for higher parts as some variety was needed. Unfortunatley they would go through puberty and in many cases would lose their trained voice. Thus castrati were "born" in order to preserve their voices.

However, as the practice of caastration died out and as women were allowed to act, they would then step into the male roles "pretending" to be another sex.

Now, me being in the arts I can tell you there are all sorts of people who are all sorts of things. But not every actor is gay or wanting to be antother sex. only some of them. Just like any place where you will find different people.

so I would ask that if you are insinuating that a person who has a character of the opposite sex wants to be the opposite sex, perhaps you could accept that there really are different world views and that not everyone views their character as "themselves".

I think in a roleplaying game generally you should pick a race/gender/class which suits your own personal preference as if its an avatar of yourself. There are people who dont treat rpg's as an rpg and actually most of these people are the types of people who ruin the genre because it destroys immersion.

Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

That would be the opposite of roleplay. I'm not a thief, or a wizard, or a pirate, nor do I fight and kill things on a regular basis. I'm pretending to be something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with myself when I roleplay.

I play male toons because Im male and the toon is a relfection of me.  If you are male and play female toons becasue you "dont want to look at a males ass", I think thats just your excuse.  I dont think your "gay" for playing female toons, but you prolly would have liked to play with dolls when you where younger instead of climb a tree.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

There are two kinds of MMO players. First plays as their character as theirself. The second play with their characters.

Thats why I play with female character. I like to look at my girl.

Cannot immagine that I have to look some gay ass all the day. Have tried many times without success.

And finally It is so exciting when a nice and innocent looking girl kick some retard ass! :)

So, people (some people anyway), seem to not get why males play female characters. The reason for me is not to get free l33t, but its because I'm not into looking at male a** all the time. I prefer females, not men...but thats just me.

Seems some people are always confused about males playing females, but to me, its more confusing a male playing another male and looking at his backside the whole time (unless he is into that, then I guess whatever, I don't care).

Kind of tired of getting complaints that I should play a male when I am a male...no thanks..got kicked out of my WoW guild because of it, one of the reasons I posted this here.

Wow, you are seriously that homophobic?  I seriously hate people that say they play female characters because they dont want to look at a dudes ass all day.

In the beginning I played as a female char once too. I was happy seeing my char's ass all day but then started to feel uncomfortable cus all the dudes were staring at my ass too.

Bullshit... Except if you are still under 12 years old, otherwise its more comparable to "play" with girls.

What you say sound more like when most of my 10 years old peers make it as you are not male if you have contacts or have girl friend, when in the same time I have fall in love with my best girl friend, and my dream was to be married for her :). Then I was 10 years old.

Even a little rough   I can not stop myslef to saying what I think: In general most males suffer from not enough ego, so my opinion is that the same persons just cannot play as female char bacuse it hurt their already low enogh ego.

and a third there are those who are story tellers and  their characters are actually just that "characters." Is every author of books, movies, comics, videos games who writes a story that has female characters gay? Of course not, we are students of human interaction, settings, and story and don't choose to limit our imaginations by the confinds of our own idenity. If people didn't have the ability to do this it would be a very boaring world as almost evey form of entertainment media wouldn't exsist.

Most everyone realizes this so the entire premiss of having a problem with people playing opposite sex characters is monumentally stupid and is mostly just a form of trolling.

Nice troll bait. Either that or you didnt actually read what i said. Some people play an "RPG" as if its a representation of themselves in a gameworld which is actually what RPG's are about. Anyone who used to read the progressive story based books or played games like Dungeons and Dragon's in the old days will know exactly what im talking about. Alot of other people especially the younger generation who missed out on early RPG games dont play RPG's like an RPG they play it more like an arcade game where they dont try and immerse themselves in their own character or the gameworld. There are the actual RPers who like to fully immerse themselves in the game, the usual RPG gamers who like to immerse themselves in the game but not have to be "in character" all the time and the people who dont treat it like an RPG but more like a usual game where you have no attachment to the character or gameworld.

IMO, there are two definitions of RPG.

One is about playing a role, like an actor on a stage plays a role. this was started in paper and pencil games, and some people carried it over to multi player computer games.

The other is a genre of computer game, where your stats increase, and you collect more powerful gear. The "RPG" computer game was at first a single player game.

You could not be an actor on a stage playing a "role"  because you were playing a game with scripted dialog of NPC's.

So instead the developers took the only characteristics of table top games role playing games they could, the character advancement with stats and gear, and called it a computer RPG.

If you are playing a computer RPG, then all you have to do, is advance your stats, and collect gear to become more powerful.

If you are playing a role in a game (usually called "roleplaying"), then generally the idea is not to be exactly like you are in real life, but to become a character that is unlike you in real life.

I play male character because i can identify with it more than i can with a female one. Uptill now; maybe twice i have used female character on alts just to check the armor difference. Other than that i always play male characters, feels more comfortable.

My character is my extension in virtual world.

I dont think its gay if you want to dress up like a woman and have sex with men. At leaste youre trying to be a woman about it. If you dont want to have sex men and still want to dress up like a woman, then you are a gay. A lesbian.

Maybe you wish you had a female body, ask yourself this... if you had the choice before you were born to have a male or female body? Right. Im guessing you chose female. Nothing wrong with wanting to be something your not. If youre not it you can fake it until you make it. Dress up real pretty and have some butt pounding good sex. Its healthy.

"We're all gay, buddy. It's just to what degree are you gay." And he[his cousin] goes, "That's bullshit, man. I ain't gay at all." And I go "Yeah, you are. And I can prove it." He[his cousin] goes "Fine. Prove it." I go, "All right. Do you like porn?" He[his cousin] says "Yeah, I love porn. You know that." I said, "Oh, and do you only watch scenes with two women?" And he[his cousin] goes, "No, I'll watch a man and a woman makin' love." And I say "Oh, and do you like the guy to have a flabby, half-flaccid penis?" And he[his cousin] goes "No, I like big, hard, throbbing cock..." - Ron White

If the person in question is a man, he's gay.

I have no clue what gives you the riddiculous idea it would be otherwise.

Besides, most transsexuals are boring heterosexuals - i.e. they turn homosexual once transformed.

I know that because the only gay person I actually know - a friend of a friend - was born a woman.

lolz i hear ya man......myself, i am an "oldtimer" when it comes to mmorpg's (way back in UO when the RPG in MMORPG still had meaning).

Still today i play both male and female chars depending on the class i play.....most of the times my tank and rogue builds are men and my healers or mages are female.

Why? imho it looks better but its just the way i love to play.....the sex doesnt realy make the characters act different so its just looks.....i like female mages more and my tank big and strong but its all up to the individual to decide for there own me thinks.

I play both male and female char's, for me it is just about how it looks. Sometimes females looks a lot better than males ingame. But I do play as a male most of the time. Why? because I am one? don't know, never thought about it :) I don't even care

I usually start trying to make a male character, I suppose, because I'm male. Then it depends on what options are looking like. I'll play either, I don't care. Fact that I can withstand fireballs, bullets, and blows to the head in game pretty well trumps immersion breaking potential of being another gender.

If you are playing an RPG and have ever sought out a particular armor for its looks...you are playing with dolls - oh sorry ACTION FIGURES. Get over it.

Why do you stare the logo on your monitor for hours every day?

Answer: You don't notice it. It's there, but your subconsciousness doesn't think it's important. You don't pay any attention to it.

Playing male is the same for me. If I don't want to pay any attention to my character, I normally choose a male, because as a male I pay more attention to females. If there's something on my character worth my attention, then I might choose a female. But generally I want to pay attention to the game, not to the character.
