Nothing wrong with sandboxes.
Nothing wrong with open world PvP.
But there is everything wrong with having full-body looting on deaths for most players of any game.
They already have two games you can die and lose all your stuff you've worked for to someone else in, and Darkfall is easily the better of the these three. From the vids this company has released of this game thus far, this one doesn't look even ready to launch on February of NEXT year, let alone in less than 30 days.
That's why no one is talking about Earthrise.
Earthrise has an insurance-system so you don't loose anything actually, if you've insured your equipment. And you even have the option to payback an item on death for a premium-price, if you forgot to insure it. Just sayin'
---
And now for all the other stuff that's been talked about...
First of all, yes Masthead does not do a good PR-job at all, however, if you go to the official forums you'll find all information about the game.
Second, if you haven't seen any leaked material from the ongoing beta, then you've simply not searched for it on google apparently.
Third, for those who think that the combat looks bad, that might be the reason because you think that Earthrise is a FPS-game, which it is not. It's a 3rd person game with tactical combat instead of spray and pray. Oh, and they didn't manage to capture the crosshair in the beta-video, which makes it look pretty awkward.
Last but not least, the game will be pretty much feature-ready and playable upon release, but yes, there will be still some bugs and glitches around like in every game that's being released.

Umm.. no thanks.
This doesn't sound like fun to me.
Just sounds like one more boring thing to worry about in an MMO. Spending money from things I've earned to keep what I made legitimately safe in case someone kills me sounds too much like real life. As well as the mugging I'm trying to keep it protected from in the first place.
I'd rather use my money to, you know... buy gear and stuff, not insurance.
But you go ahead and have fun with that. And if you find the game's insurance rates too high...

I love it when he pulls out the wallet. :-)
That's the thing about Earthrise. Those mechanics could be mega clunky, or they could just be in the background of a really fun game. It just depends on how Masthead implemented all the possibilities. I don't know if I'll like this game, but I really want to find out if it's any fun or not.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Not speaking for anyone else, but I think the combat looks bad because.. it looks bad, lol. It has nothing to do with it being a 3rd person game.
The official video they have up on their site looks really boring. The animations are missing or lackluster, the movements of the characters are stiff and overall it looks like an amateurish production. The world looks really empty and bland, even their beta sign up screen looks like one of those free website hosting sites. It really looks like a F2P game based on what they are pushing as the official press video.
Now, if this was just beta and the game was about... 6 months off I'd say okay, they have a ways to go. But they are talking about releasing this game in less than 30 days, and THIS is the video shown on their official site as 'state of the game' after announcing a launch date?
You're claiming they didn't 'quite capture' the crosshair. Um... it's THEIR game. Couldn't they make another video to show off the features or what? There really isn't any excuse for this level of lack of attention to detail this close to launch.
Again, that's why no one is talking about this game.
I just read a thread about lvl 30 guys standing around the newb respawn with flamethrowers. Since you are forced to respawn they just melt you over and over till all your insurance levels are gone. Brilliant. Ya. sounds like crap loads of fun to play. 'Course, there is no NA admin so the tutorial zone has been crashing every night so you cant get out of the zone to actually play the game er test it err whatever. lol This is poor comedy.
I don't know if I'll like this game, but I really want to find out if it's any fun or not.
Excellent reasons.
As much as I'll rip a game for being ugly, shoddy, boring or this or that, I'll never tell anyone "Don't buy this game".
Anyone having an interest in ANY game should ALWAYS check it out regardless if 99% of people say it sucks like a Hoover vacuum cleaner with a jet engine attached.

I'd like to see a link for proof. If true, we'll wait a year until the devs get some sense of development of a sandboxy game. But with that aside, the reason why I didnt buy is that isnt it $60 for a digital download?
I signed up for the Earthrise beta a while ago but lack of information or hype means I had almost forgotten about it. This thread prompted me to take another look at their forum and in fact they announced last week that they are on the verge of sending out thousands of beta keys to people who have been waiting.
With a bit of luck, we'll have a chance to check it out before release.
But with that aside, the reason why I didnt buy is that isnt it $60 for a digital download?
The digital download will be $49.99 USD on the day of release, Feb 4th.
The boxed pre-order version from Iceberg is 63 USD, but supposedly comes with extra content.
1) You have announced that the game will release in February 2010. Is there a particular date that the game will release on? Also is there an idea of what the game will cost?
Yes, Earthrise will be released on February 4th and it will cost €49.99 EUR (incl. VAT) for the EU countries and $49.99 USD for the rest of the world. The price will be for the game client with one free month of play.

I hope they do it soon, there's only 21 days until the game is actually released. What are they going to manage to fix or balance in the game in the time left until it releases?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I can understand why some people might think that lack of information means the devs are scared to share because the content is poor. On the other hand, I'm so sick of the companies hyping the game so much that I get burned out on them before they even release.

I think the animation looks fine to be honest not the best but completly acceptable and on par with rift, I like that the world is sparse I cant stand small little zones that are packed with stuff, would rather a larger one that I can explore and have to walk a distance to to get to the mobs, thats what a mmorpg world should be. If its small and your instantly getting everywhere just buy a single player game. I want a huge dynamic world that I can or my guild can affect and thats what earth rise is going to be.
Its much more of a sandbox game and thats what appeals to me, and a real economy as well. the end game is what you make it not what the company tells you it is.
For me I'm just not seeing the buzz traditionally associated with a game on the verge of release, which usually means that I'm going to be disappointed at the results (if it actually launches soon which the odds are currently against)
But hey, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, sure hope so.

Maybe they haven't leaked anything because they don't care if anyone buys it, maybe they are satisfied that they made the game they wanted to make and will put it out there for others to play if they choose but don't care to hype it up or give any information about it. Its probebly a play and find out what its all about. I like it this way, as I had been following this game a while back but forgot the name of it. I most likely will play it but I'm starting to like the "no leak" thing. I for once want the people who make the mmos to not make them for us but for themselves. I want them to just say "Forget the stupid idiots who type about our games, we made this game for us, and they should be happy with us just sharing it with them!!!"

I am interested, but I will have to wait for a trial, the crafting system seems interesting and very pre-cu SWGish from the screen shot I saw.
