I watched the beta video, and couldn't help comparing this game to Global Agenda. The combat looks almost identical.

How will this game be different from GA? GA is B2P, no monthly sub. The GA world isn't persistent, a lot of loading screens and instanced PVP.

Will ER be persistent? What makes it a sandbox? How deep is the game (crafting, character customization, etc.)?

Besides, my gf is going on vaca with her parents from the 31 Dec thru to the 12th of Feb.. ER release is the 4th. That  gives me ..ummm... a bunch of days to not worry about anything other than ER and feeding the cat!!  It's an act of GOD!!!

    I bought a Cryptic game...

    ER will not disappoint.

Okay...I want to like this game too.  So who did you buy the digital down from, and how much was it?

The digital download will be available from the earthrise website Feb 4th, the only distributor for the boxed version is in the UK I forgot what thier called.

Read this thread for all the information:http://forums.play-earthrise.com/index.php?topic=7198.0

ok. I'll wait to see what the digital download price is.

They've announced the DD price to be $49.99.

This game is nothing like GA (except for the setting).

Its one huge world (no instances), full loot PvP, with a deep system of faction PvP.

I suggest you read the unofficial FAQ it will answere ALOT of your questions:

Already took the leap of faith with MO... and well, let's just say that shit ain't happening again.

  • DeienDeien Member Posts: 121

I already wasted 100 bucks on faith with ff14 and fallen earth though this 1 I did play the full 30 days but was still a waste of money I wish I never spent.

The game seams like it will be fun so I guess I will wait and see though =/.

Wish I had a mmo to play right now damn eq 1 progression server in a few months and darkfall being a pain to renew.

I was thinking about it, but this is my student teaching semester so I'll probably be too busy to play an MMO anyway.

Well not really, as I never published any of my ideas, but pretty much everything they said Earthrise will be / have is what I would describe as my 'perfect' MMO. Whether it all comes together in practice is another story.

Still, I basically have to get Earthrise, even if just to give some support to a developer willing to give all these ideas a try, so I'll see everyone else taking the leap of faith on launch day :)

Edit: Order Placed... and now we play the waiting game.

Very well said.  When I goto a resturant I've never eaten at, I don't ask for a taste before I order a meal.  Just because there is no open beta, I won't avoid buying an MMO I am interested in.  Most important, the game appeals to me, and it has many of the things I like in mmos.  Whether or not the game will execute these right, I feel fine buying it, if not just to support Masthead in their effort.  If the game sucks, I'll end my subscription, but I definitely have to try it.

Im with you on this one.

Sure the running animations were laughable bad, but I didn't think the video was near as bad as everyone else. I'll be getting the game.

Me too. They could be better, but some of the criticism is poorly thought-out speculation. "OMG lolz they have ranged characters standing 10 feet from each other shooting. lols fail"

Maybe it is an issue or maybe, they wanted to get a bunch of characters in one video-shot to showcase their weapons. We don't know.

The running was not great. But that hasn't stopped me from enjoying DF which is even worse.

Yep. I'll probably buy it. Still would like NDA to be released, but I enjoyed a month in STO, MO, DCUO, and others even if I wouldn't highly recommend them, I got my money's worth. FFXIV was the only game I felt a little robbed, but then again I have no right to complain, I had fair warning.

I buying.  I actually don't mind playing through the bugs.  With indie games i expect them on launch (yes i know, we should expect a perfectly smooth game if they charge us to play) and will attempt to help build a better game.

I can sympathize with you, and it is smart to be sure about a purchase before you make it.  However, someone recently posted something to this effect (which I thought was fitting, and very funny) . . .

"I'll buy them all because I have a job and I can."

This is my attutide.  As long as I am interested, I will likely buy and try it out.  If there is an open beta, even better, but it won't sway my decision much, since, after all, its a beta, and most mmorpgs go through some changes shortly after release.

Waiting is just not for me, I guess.  I mean, I have DCUO to play, which I am enjoying.  I am pre-ordered for Rift and will be trying that out, so waiting for Earthrise would actually be the smart thing for me to do.  But no, as the OP said, "Don't care, I'm buying".

Man!   At least I'm not the only complete retard who is going to drop money on this game no matter how terrible the trailer looked lol.

I agree with a lot of you about how this game is incorperating many great ideas that should have been in the industry for years now.    Any dev company that decides to try and break out of the mold and take risks in the current state of MMO's deserves my money anyways.   As long as they are really trying, and plan to try again if they fail.

That being said... the trailer makes the game look like utter crap.   I'm not impressed by ANYTHING I saw lol    But I am impressed by EVERYTHING I read about it.

We'll have to just wait and see.

    This, really.

The state of the MMO industry is dire. The only way things are going to change is if we, the consumers, speak with our wallets. If people are to be seen supporting innovation, things will change. Unfortunately, there has to be 'martyr's' along the way. People willing to shell out the cash and fund good ideas and good developers.

I haven't forked out on COD: Black Ops since it came out, even though i want to and all my friends are playing it. Not because it is a bad game, but because it is nothing but a cookie-cutter cash-cow and i am sick of the lack of innovation coming from multi-million dollar developers. 10 years ago if someone told me this would be the state of the gaming industry i'd have laughed in their face. The only thing thats changed in PC gaming in the last 10 years is the graphics. Everything else has gone backwards.

Exactly.   That's been my stance on buying games for years now.     Black ops included, as everyone I know has a copy already and it looks like they are having fun, I just can't bring myself to support the development of games I'm tired of seeing launched every year.     FPS(shooters) are so over done anyways, I just don't see how they can charge people those steep box prices after this many years of just copying the last big FPS that launched.  Rinse repeat and maybe add the year at the end of the title, or add a ":" and then something cool like "CoD: Dark Days" or "Counterstrike: Epic" or whatever.... that's the extent of innovation we get lately.     I'd rather just play them at a buddy's house and save my money for devs that are trying something different.

I suggest to all of you mmorpg.com readers:  Let your friends buy the next over hyped regurgitated blockbuster and spend your hard earned cash on the new age of gaming.      Madden 2015 won't count.   It's still just a football game.  Maybe they'll let you inject steroids into your players and maybe have little mini-games where they get drunk and beat their groupie girlfriends.  /shrug.    your money, not mine.

I buy what I think is fun. Black Ops is a fun game, uninventive yes, but fun. I don't understand why you would stop yourself buying something you wanted just because its not inovative. Games aren't ment to inovate thier ment to be fun.

I would say, and this is just me personally, because the same amount of fun can be had from earlier iterations if there's no innovation.

That attitude is what developers depend on when they are being lazy.    Of course, you're too busy having 'fun' to realize you didn't have to spend the money to have that fun, considering the same fun could be had from 10 year old games that don't cost as much, if anything.

You ever hear someone complain about what's on TV, and how they don't like it, or it offends them, or anything negative at all... but then you notice they're not changing the channel?   The TV network sees a number of current viewers on said channel and they take note that X number of people 'enjoy' the current programming.     So what you have is someone who doesn't like what's on TV, but they are contributing to more of the same stuff being syndicated because they are staying tuned in.

Same goes for gaming...  There are people who complain about the games that are out, while keeping an active subscription to those games "just in case they do something cool in the next patch"  -- this is only making developers think they are doing something right, and causes a false sense of "we don't need to improve. Look how many subs we have with the game being the way it is. Look how many MORE subs we got when we added/changed _____!!"   -   Yes, if you're happy with the way things are, keeping buying it.  keep paying for some executive's steak dinner while you sit in the same stale era of games.

If you're not satisfied with what we got, or what's coming... then save your money and show them you won't pay for "cheap fun" when you can get cheap fun for free.

Fair enough, its your time and your money to do what you want to. However on the off chance your purchase dosn't work out for you, you have lost your right to come back to these forums and complain about it, as many Mortal Online players did.

     Medal of Honor

    Counterstrike

    007

    Quake

    Doom

    Unreal

    Marathon

    Time Crysis

    Duck Hunt

*** that's not all of them by any means, but those are all shooters that have just as much fun value that are 10 years or more older than Black Ops.   Only difference is polygon count and sound.
