Personally, I do like original ideas in MMO's and it would be good to see some more
However for discussion purposes I think that Narnia would make a good mmo world especially one aimed at a younger audience perhaps. Part of me wants to see a Harry Potter MMO too.
Actually I have just thought that...
Earthsea - all related books (not the rubbiosh film) would make an excellent setting for an mmo.
I would love to see a game starting with the size of Vanguard based on Forgotten Realms, with more to be added later...With a sandboxish approach, with the ugly d word 'dynamic' content, to where you could take over areas, be invaded, conquer things, and the game would create content on the fly to evolve with what the players, and with what the computer faction does to players also.
Something where you have to worry about other players, the computer, and unique type content being made, with say a dynamic dungeon creator.
Tie it all in with a killer crafting/harvesting and a system like the VG diplomacy....
Also skill based, with no restrictions, but a skill point cap, like UO.
I would like to see the world of Thomas Covenant by Steven R Donaldson. Another one would be Harry Potter if it was done for adults not children. The Similarion would be good too.
Discworld once it no longer develope, would offer huge world give ability for many classes/races and even regional or political, also this might be crafters paradise...
Please no Harry Potter.... Come on people!! You really liked the books and movies?? They sucked! They are CHILDRENS BOOKS!.. Anyways... No more vampire and zombies. That was soooo yesterday...
Redone lol. Turbine is driving LoTRO to shit, when the F2P novelty wears off and WB shuts the game down hopefully some other developer will pick it up redo this MMO.
Other than that, it would be a dream to play an Elder Scrolls MMO or a Demon's Souls MMO.
Maybe different combat or maybe not the game was pretty fun. Wow the PVP possibilities.
I think one of the best air combat sims was and still is IL-2 Sturmovik but, every developer and their brother made a WWII game after the succes of Medal of Honor. Burned out? Yeah me too.
So a world based on the game above with some better combat (or leave it as is) some skills to train, no player levels, Twitch based PVP and you already have your flying mount!!

Not an IP, but history! Should be more then enough inspiration to make a great and awsome MMO from.
AS for real IP's
Mount and Blade - good background and awesome combat system with both should work in an MMO.
Dune - for reason already mentioned here
Warhammer - There is already one, but can be much better! After reading a few books I do not believe the current game really does it justice.
Planescape by far.
Though it could allso be fun to play a navigator in Dune.
Or Metabaron in the (Moebius/Jodorowsky) Incal saga.
Fallout MMO if its gonna fly.
id go with the .hack// ip or with A Tale of the Malazan Book of the fallen from steve erikson
both offer some nice possibilities

Thats what I want to play!
Terminator ... I want the MMO to be set in the time after judgement day...
Would love a stargate MMO to come out too, there was one supposed to come out but I think that was canceled.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"

Shadow Run, or other Cyperpunk...

Superman vs Dr. Who - would Superman steal the time machine, or would Dr. Who steal Clark Kent's clothes?
Dune could be a great game if it was done right, or it could suck horribly.
A Mad Max sandbox
Heroes - except time travel in an mmo does pose a level of programming difficulty I've never seen done before... or have I???
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
Lord Of The Rings

I would love a mmo based on the world described in “Other Songs” a book by polish author Jacek Dukaj.
You can read some passages in English here.
Dune would be nice too.
A dogfighting MMO!!
It's been a long time since I've played a good dogfighting game. No not the Michael Vick kind.
Air Combat, you know Black Sheep Squadron umm The battle at Midway or something based on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i23KRvtWLx8

Just a thought
Stargate, you have so much lore, so many factions, and such endless possibilities to keep on going for a long time.
"edit" a GOOD version of a stargate mmo, meaning a big company with enough recources to devote to it, make it a game worth doing
Here, here. I second that. Swore they were going to announce it recently but I'll settle for Skyrim.
The Death Gate Cycle.
