Stop putting the "Rift" on a pedestal
To all my fellow Rift lovers...
Knock it off! I know that Rift looks great and plays great as well... In fact I'm sure the whole forum has heard one iteration of this statement somewhere, but this isn't helping the game.
I just got done reading the "Rift is the new hotness" article and I really think I need to stress a point to my fellow Rift lovers out there... You're continual boasting of Rift isn't going to help this game succeed. In all actuality it's going to make it harder... The more people boast and say how awesome Rift is the higher and higher the expectations are going to be fore the readers and the critics of the game, and yourself.
No game is perfect. As polished and fluid Rift is it will have problems, every MMO has had problems... And when those problems come up they are going to be magnified, because the players are going to have such high expectations.... and where are they getting those expectations? From the people constantly boasting about the game!
To use an old saying "stop putting the 'cat' on a pedestal" you're making it unreachable for everyone, especially yourselves.

That's right! Because everyone knows a lack of enthusiasm makes games succeed. Wait a minute...
Its a good game from my experience.
Every game has problems, however, from my short experience, trion is doing a damn good job and so far I believe they have earned their compliments.
However, nothing in in stone and life is a differential equation.
There is no need to be angry man, chill and enjoy life.
So much negativity on this site for so long, its a good game for what it is, let it be....

yeah everyone. pretend that Rift isn't a good, polished, fun experience. It's going to make people shy away from the game. Say it's okay and you might check it out if you don't have laundry to do or something. For God's sake don't talk it up on the Rift Forums on a MMORPG website.
Some people get carried away, but seriously not enough to warrant this thread. sorry.
LotRO and before that WoW we should put it on a pedestal. Maybe if Rift is the one game since wow to be successful and an actual competitor then other devs will realize that they need to release polished and well executed games to also be successful.

I agree with the poster, we should all be negative a 100% of the time for everything, hate all games, hate all decisons made my politicans, hate all your friends and family, hate yourself, stop being so damn positive, negative, hate, death is all that should exisit in your thoughts.

I think OP is scared of backlash come live I get what they are saying but I don't think there is alot to worry about haters will always be no matter how good your game is. Trolls will try it just to bash it just goes without saying but a new game does need it's supporters to get the word out. I have fun playing Rift is it the best MMO eva omg no but it's fun lol.
It's not a black and white Issue guys.... it's a grey area.
Everyone seems to be portraying Rift as a God... No flaws, absolutely perfect... What I'm saying is everyone needs to come down to earth a bit and look at what they are saying. Endorsing a game is good, idolizing a game is bad... Do you see the difference?

This thread is a lie...Rift can't be put on a pedestal on this site because Guild Wars 2 has taken up all the room on it.

Maybe it's a clever way to actually kill the game when it comes out? You know these "fanbois vs haters" strategies are getting more advanced by the day..
Instead of being aggressive at the start, jump on the badwagon.. Ride calmly with the passengers and cheer along with them, boasting stories of what they should expect.. Boast it even greater to heights that you've never seen them reach before.. Boast them ever further and even recommend that others join in. Continue boasting until the passengers are all smiling very hard and singing the cheers of "savior".. The trap is set.. And when you arrive at the destination and it appears not as you said it would, you fill the passengers with misguided anger.. You tell them that "That is what I was told! This is not what they said it would be!". You raise your fists in revolution and use that same crowd as a catalyst to launch and confuse more passengers ready and waiting on the bandwagon..
I contest this, if God is perfect then there must be something incredibly wrong with Haiti et al to warrant his disastrous treatment. Mild religious mockery aside, I do think too much hype can cause a few subscriptions to be lost upon launch if people were expecting the Almighty himself.

Looking forward to: FFXIV, Earthrise, The Secret World, Guild Wars 2 (very much), Project Copernicus (and Mercury for that matter), Everquest and Planetside Next (finally a meaningful mmofps again)
Wants to play in 2 years time if it survives from the subscriptions of fanatics and turns into the game with all features stated on the website: Mortal Online

Dear OP,
Most of the Anticipated and great MMO's are always put on a pedestal, GW, WOW, EVE, GW2, WarHammer (for a while), Aion (same as before), AoC (see other). It will never stop.
Or, maybe, just maybe, you are getting more and more enthusiastic people because people have been playing the beta and commenting.

Agreed, but I think we should at least make some effort to limit the height of the pedestal.
