Despite his loyal devotion to Rift (Personally I think the guy is misguided) apparently Rift is equalling that of APB with regards to pre-orders, 300k'ish, personally I think this is good. But on the other hand APB folded within the first 2 months, not that I played it myself.
Will Trion be the next MMO in the graveyard?
Let's hope not, I like EQ dev's.

Most people Pre-Ordered direct from Trion to make sure they got into beta... Just saying....

I'm having a hard time figuring out the correlation you see between Rift and APB.
I'm suprised its not higher if compared to APB considering APB had glaring issues at the end of beta, and from what I've heard Rift seems pretty polished (so they keep saying).
Me too. A classic fantasy mmorpg vs an instanced third-person-shooter. I don't get it either.
RIFT has more preorders than APB. I will assure you that.. They'll break over a million.
The only correlation is sales number, 300k seems pretty damn good to me. There is another 6 weeks till release right?
Who's to say it won't be higher?
APB which he quoted as being 326k bombed at launch but I'm pretty sure that was a GTA style game E.G. first person shooter
Don't see the relevance (not sure how people come up with posts like this either) seeing you can preorder RIFT from;
Amazon, TRION, Steam, D2D, Gamestop, Walmart, etc etc.
APB hit the graveyard because they let it happen, I was there.
I would say trying to correlate the 2 games from this angle is the farthest stretch I have ever seen. I personally preordered from Gamestop. Also, a better correlation in this regard would be in comparison to Warhammer Online and Age of Conan box sales. Both of those games had around 1million box sales at launch and they ended up not being successful as subs.
Personally, I think Rift has a far better chance than WAR or AoC as it is more polished and knows what kind of game it is. Plus the dynamic content makes it a blast to play.
APB sucked before it even launched and didn't have a chance.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
I thought 500k to 800k so it really could go much higher. Interesting.

d2d had a sale 2 weeks ago, 20% off any mmo, including either flavor of Rift. I know that many people in my guild jumped on that, including myself!
Put me in the "Buy the game on release" line. I can't wait.
The King must say he is not surprised by this.
Look at how well FFXIV did in sales and presales... But there wasn't much there once people got into the meat of the game. RIFT will fair better because they actually have meat. It's just the same flavor everyone's used to.
Their biggest tell-tale will be into the later Summer months. Not so much 3 or 6 months solidly.. Because the game will have the 'I told my friend who told a friend' game jumpers. But 1 solid WoW update could get many of those people back. TERA will take a few. Good Guild Wars 2 news will tear away a few.
The King doesn't believe the 'oh bright and shiny' citizens are a very good measuring stick.

Yeah, I am a little surprised even with the quality beta. I mean AoC clocked in these kinds of numbers with a known IP pushing it. Rift is a great game so far but the lore is brand new, no warm up eye catching big name characters ect. to grab attention.
EQ2 devs.............very different
300K is not that good.
WAR sold 1 million and AoC 700K and most of those were pre-order
But in truth, RIFT is a better game than those 2 so at least I think they can keep a decent subscription base.
They will recover their money in subscriptions, but no, it's not going to be the next WoW.
I can agree a little bit with what you're saying, but how many people are truely Lore Junkies?
To me, gameplay > Lore
Do you have a link to the rank on steam? Couldn't find it myself
More miss info from a wow fanboy or dev. Nothing to see here move along.
Ok, slow down, take a deep breath, now READ the OPs post. Mainly the part that you missed.
Thats 300k ON AMAZON.COM ONLY. Not Trion, D2D, Gamestop, Steam, ect, ect.
Thats 300k from one outlet according to this person.
Rift could top 1 million sales at release and considering most of the marketing is just word of mouth thats not bad...

Count me in on an Amazon order. Call me old-fashioned but I need a physical copy of my games. I like to keep them on a shelf to display. I usually order digital copy for wifey though after that.
Yeah true
Although there is not need to become so hot and bothered.
As I stated in my post high number of box sales don't equal a long lasting success.
Trust me for Trion would be better selling 500K and retaining those 500K for 3 years than selling 1 million and retaining 100K like the above mentioned games.
What I was saying was that developers make the real money out of subscriptions and Rift has better chances to retain many of the initial buyers, I was actually trying to be positive.
Pretty solid, would be interesting to see what other retailers are coming in at. If Amazon alone is at 300k, the preorders straight from Trion's site must be higher. I know most of my guild went with Trion directly simply because we wanted our beta codes on time, places like Gamestop do not have the best track record on delivering them when they are supposed to.
