It's a good cinematic, but people and developers should start to realize that a cinematic tells nothing about a game, (well they can be used for lore). What I mean is, I can't take a decision about buying or not the game by seeeing a cinematic.
I find myself somewhat underwhelmed. I like that it highlights single player interaction, but I'd rather see some more game play. Do the exact same scenario as the cgi video, but do it with some players instead of the CGI.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Was pretty awesome lol, loved the ending, and it hints at actual in-game features which is rare. Also, speeder bike mount things look sweet. A CGI trailer also says ''we're here, come take a look''.

Allthough the CGI-trailer doesn't tell anything about the current state of the game, this trailer does tell the general idea of the game pretty well, with crafting, PvP, looting, insurance and ressurection.

In game hint's ? as in I die and someone loots my gear ? that shotgun is what he crafted and gets looted by someone else? that would put me off the game for good.

It tells new players there will be; vehicular mounts, weapon crafting/purchasing, life insurance/weapon insurance payable on death and PvP. About the player looting, i do believe that is a game feature, but don't let that put you off. There will be ways to insure you are safe from looting and such. This is a sandbox MMO, you should have known there will be elements of risk. Which is what makes it so awesome!

The game starts off with free for all PvP, but the area you start in has mechanics in place to minimize it for new or neutral players. The guards in town will kill anyone who engages in PvP in the neutral zone. The way it was described, it did not sound like you would get powerful enough to be able to just do whatever you wanted...the guards would kill you. Your only option if you decide to kill someone in the neutral zone is to avoid the guards.
There are also mechanics in place to minimize the loss. Player insurance against item loss, most of your "power" is in skills, not gear (though gear is important), etc. I'm looking forward to trying it out myself.

Just so that you know, ER wont be anything like DF where you can just mindlessly pvp people and get away just like that with the consequences being there,
sure, while i dont know how the outcome of the player actions will be in ER, will they really just gank fest, or actually follow lore etc? ( as in, Noir player will not kill another Noir player, etc ) time will tell.
Just dont let the FFA PVP let you give up on this game at all, because this game is going to be so much fun and have the potential to be one

This is a hardcore pvp centric game. You will die. You will lose yer stuff. Learn from your mistakes, and be sure to take along several guild mates when crafting in a low sec area. or. You will die. And you will lose yer stuff.
from what ive learbned about the game so far u can be attacked anywhere. u can be killed anywhere. all by other players. so ur stupid to wonder around by yourself. and if you do, just like in the video, i will be there to show you your mistake. i will take your stuff or die trying.

The 'low sec(urity)' area is the thing. Players will start in an area where there is a strong npc faction that will enforce the rules. It'll be much like Eve's high sec(urity) space where killing someone gets you killed by the guards. So, you run the risk of being killed, the person killing you in high sec(urity) space runs the certainty of being killed for doing it.
Unlike a lot of other FFA PvP games, it looks like the factions play an active role in the world itself. Now, does that mean if you are a member of one faction, and someone comes to kill you in the faction controlled area that the guards will kill them? Dunno. But it's not just FFA PvP.

It's a mistake for this game to position itself as a hardcore ganking game, as this vid does, imo.
PvP focused games rarely do well for long, unless they have a solid PvE element as well, and this vid just says to me 'gank'. I am sure it dosent make the PvPvE long term community builder (essential for the long term health of any game) think 'this is for me'.
This is fine if ER is aimed at just the tiny minority of hardcore FFA PKs, but by doing so they are ensuring their game sells to a very limited audience no matter what else it offers and a particular minority that is very volatile, demanding, and unloyal as a whole at that.

That could be why I found the video underwhelming. The documentation and forum posts on the developer's website don't make the PvP ganking out to be a major part of the game. More like large scale PvP is a big part of the game, along with a lot of PvE content for solo and group players.
*edit* Here's a link to the official forums and a quote from their forum moderator about the factions. It's much more indepth than I could be here and gives you a better idea of the faction system in the game.

I'm not implying this ia going to be a gank fest by any means. There will be plenty to do for the pve player who dose not want to run the risk. However, the devs have stated, "the more risk, the more reward". I plan on playing a neutral, and going into the smuggling buisness. Ganking your own faction has a very high penalty, not something I would advise. edit: did not mean to quote you.
dont think that this game is all pvp. ive looked into the game enough to know there is alot of mobs to kill some small some so big u need a mecha to kill it. so there will be alot of pve. but at the same time it provides opertunities fro players to kill each other much like eve. but not so much as to ruin the game.
you could be doing a pve mission where by the time u finish it other players have seen you and decided to ambush you to see if you got anything cool from the mission. and as with manufacturing places i forsee guilds and gangs setting up ganks and bases around them for money and steeling purposes. so those will have a lot of pvp around them. but you dont have to go there to get new weapons. you can just buy them from someone thats made it already

If seeing a cinematic trailer shooting someone in the back, taking his gun, then shooting him with it "caters to the hardcore PvP crowd" then why aren't we all running off to Call of Duty. Surely those videos lead one to suspect "hardcore PvP".

You missed my point... I am not debating what you are saying is true and there is maybe a strong PvE game in this.
This new vid says 'gank' and nothing else, and thats a shame.
It's a terrible promotional tool for attracting the PvPvE crowd.
They should have been selling the concept of world, control, and freedom (that FFA pvp can have a strong role in supporting) rather then simple gank imo. Selling it just on 'gank' is massively out of step with the current market imo.

I fond it quiet amusing, that there's people around complaining about the FFA-PvP aspect of this game, allthough this part is the core of the whole game and we know this from day one. It is written down in the FAQ of this game on the official homepage aswell...
Sophisticated Player versus Player (PvP) mechanics that let you fight for the established order, join the revolutionary underground, or carve your own bloody path as an independent criminal.
Earthrise is a player vs. player game, in which players are able to engage in combat almost everywhere. Based on the setting hostilities, players who are affiliated with the in-game factions are able to engage in open hostilities without fear of repercussions besides the risk of losing. Of course players who chart a particularly bloody path can run afoul of defensive mechanics to protect the innocent.
Even though everybody on Enterra including the player characters is technically immortal, death isnt without consequences. Players have to pay beforehand to insure their belongings or risk losing them when they die.
A single person can achieve only so much, so keeping that in mind Earthrise facilitates grouping between the players in Guilds. With friends and allies by their side, the players will be able to better customize their characters for crafting or combat and compete against the other Guilds for territorial and economic dominance.
If you're interested in this game, then you would've known all this for 3 years allready.
---
This game doesn't work without FFA-PvP and player-looting as the whole economy would not worki without it.
Oh, and to give you another hint: There's item-decay in the game aswell, so nothing lasts forever, no matter how much you've paid or worked for your shiney items. They will all break at some point, even if you don't do any PvP at all.
Yes. This game is targeted at the hardcore-players and not the casual ones.

That makes it sound more like R vs R which would be ok in my book. I like the idea of sandbox games, but too often FFA PvP full loot games just devolve into E-Sport gankfests with horrible player communities.
I like a little more "realism"/RPG element in my games. People that go around slaying everyone they see really shouldn't last very long...as they would have little support base and organized factions/communities would take care of them very quickly.
Different factions going to war against each other sure.... but violence WITHIN a faction should be quite rare..... and psycho loaners who go around killing everyone they encounter should be rarer still. They should be the exceptions not the rules...unfortunately in too many games where FFA PvP is supported it's the reverse.
Which ends up driving alot of other players, who would actualy enjoy sandbox style play otherwise, and would even tolerate some risk of ganking if were kept to a sane/semi-realistic level.

Nice intro and CGI, Lets just hope the game is actauly good tho.

You know that EVE is the only decent space sims right?
You also know that most of its player base don't care about the pvp & never leaves empire space right?
We'll see how it goes for ER, but I agree with the sentiment that trying to sell the game with a CGI that depict player looting is not a good idea.
Eve is NOT a space sim.
Cant speak for other EvE players, but the ones I know PvP consistantly.
