    YOU FORGOT THE TARGETING SYSTEM!!!

Seriously, it seems a lot of the times my toon is targeting like it were lil' Stevie Wonder!! I swear, there'd by three guys in front of me, right in front of me, and my toon targets a barrel twenty feet behind me lol.

I started playing CO after ditching for a while. I wanted to check it out before the F2p. It is pretty stupid to pay 15 bucks when it will be live soon enough. But, I'm an adult and can handle the expense. Anyways, I was pleased with champions and it seems to be coming along very nicely IMHO.

I was thinking about DCO, but it seems to be a PVP experience more than a PVE experience and that doesn't really interest me.

If it would have been more of a FRank Miller take on the DC universe in a PVE environment that would have been of interest to me. Champions IMHO is closer to a Marvel Universe take on the world.

    Currently Play: ?
Occasionally Play: Champions, Pirates of the Burning Sea, WOW, EVE ONLINE

Aside from those little girls the rest of the community seems to agree that the pvp is unrivaled.

Why should people lower their expectations just because this is a so called "action" mmo?  The subscription fee is the exact same industry premium other games change.  The content is the same format, so why is it expected that people should settle for less?

I understand the game is new, but come on.  In 10 days or less you have already reached max level and are engaged in end game raiding.  That is the best offering from a game developed over 5 years and $50 million dollars has to offer?

This first monthly content patch had better be overwhleming, because it will be the only one that has more than a month to be worked on.  After that it will be 30 days or less to complete, unless they just reskin/recycle game assets and call it "new".

Yes, the PC controls and targetting are atrocious. It's very very easy to end up not fighting the guy that's right on you and fly 40 feet past and disturb another group of mobs or a random bench or barrel. And seriously, barrels? The gaming industry as a whole needs to take a vow to delete all models of barrels and never touch them again. Crates are next on the list (there's plenty of crates in this game as well btw)

Played: Asheron's Call(still the best fantasy MMO!), EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DAoC, Horizons, City of Heroes/Villians, WoW (crap), LOTORO, D&D Online, Eve, Anarchy Online, and still playing SWG daily.

So basicaly... Bill,  this article is you telling SOE what they need to do to get a higher score in your up coming review?

Isnt that kinda cheating? giving them the drop so you can give this game a score which it otherwise wouldnt have deserved?  Biased I think you are.

100% agree. I am betting that the first substantial content released will coincide with the GL movie and I also am betting that it will be a paid expansion, not 'free monthly updates'  Free monthly updates will probably be in the form of 'here's a new alert' and next month 'here's a new Raid' etc...

Some guys that did this right was Turbine and it's monthly content updates to Asheron's Call. They always had multiple quests, dungeons, weapons, critters per monthly cycle. They only ever had 2 paid expansions, yet had added 2 or 3 (last time I checked) entire land masses to explore, fully loaded with dungeons, quests and  mobs when they released.

Too much spent on the IP and the voice acting and not enough time on the actual game play plus it being also designed for consoles and seemingly more targetted for consoles. Interviews now with SOE folks are all about 'convincing console players to get used to the paid sub model for an MMO,'  but what we have is barely an MMO. It's a mostly single player game with extremely poor communication avenues (for PCs.)

This game will live or die by it's embracing by PS3 players, because PC players are going to move on because it's not at all the level of game we are accustomed to seeing today, and bigger ones are on the near horizon.

That's not to say it isn' t fun at times, and that it doesn't have potential but I figure that PC users are going to be the red headed stepchildren when it comes to improvements.

Played: Asheron's Call(still the best fantasy MMO!), EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DAoC, Horizons, City of Heroes/Villians, WoW (crap), LOTORO, D&D Online, Eve, Anarchy Online, and still playing SWG daily.

I was a beta player and I didnt buy this game because the UI sucked. In every way it is a major step back from what PC gamers get in a standard MMO, even F2P games have better UI's. SoE needs to show their PC fans they love them to. I will check back in 6-12 months and see if DCUO made this game more keyboard/mouse friendly.

A agree the UI is awful, easily the worst I've ever seen in any of the 10 or 12 MMOs I've played.

DCUO looks amazing but it's essentially nothing more than a generic Fantasy MMO with the serial numbers scratched off.  They crossed out "Paladin" and wrote in "superhero."  The people making the game either don't get the essential philosophy behind superheroes or they simply don't care, because everyone is basically a mercenary.  You defeat bad guys not for the greater good but rather for money.  That's missing the point by a mile.

Not only are the powers badly described -- if at all -- there are so many combos which feature interruptible attacks that you literally never get to use them.  I learned on the second character to never take any power that said "interruptible" as part of the description, because I'd never get to fire it off.

And there's item decay, which I guess sort of makes sense, even though it's something I've never cared for in any previous MMO.  It's just a waste of time and means that every so often your fun abates because your weapons are operating at 10%, so you die more.  It kills forward momentmum to have to stop and return to the police station to repair things.  And I *really* don't get the concept of having my health impacted because my necklace needs to be repaired.  It's not even a magical amulet or anything.  That sort of thing is moronic.

I also didn't like the static combat areas.  MMO worlds are basically unchanging by their very nature, but some are better at hiding it than others.  DCUO is extremely bad at this, because you feel as if you've brought your broom to beach to try and sweep the tide away.  The bad guys keep respawning no matter how many you defeat.

The game looks amazing -- I loved the Watchtower space station -- but the gameplay was very much old school, and not in a good way.

To be honest there are 2 options.

You like the game or u dont like it.

I m having a lot of fun with this game cause it's very fresh and alternative to other mmoos.

It may need a lot of things to be implemented but im not in a rush.

This game is awesome to play it along side with something else.

Thats why im going to buy i life sub if they keep their words and keep patching the game.

Agreed..... Played through the villian content in 1.5 weeks.  Bored to death at end game.  We desperately need more open world PVP objectives.

Will probably play through the Hero content in the next 1-2 weeks, and likely not subscribe unless there is something added making it worth it.

To those that complains about the content and speed of leveling. Maybe do a reality check, almost every other MMO you can level to max or run out of content within a month of play. Hell i burned through Cataclysm starting at lvl 1 , before a month was done [excluding raid content of course] .

Champions Online have less content  after a YEAR+ than DCUO have right now, so dunno what you people are smoking.

For $50 for the box + free month i'd say i am getting my money's worth. If it was a single player game which would be a typical 20 hour game [most single players games are less than 30 hours] no one would complain about that, yet they complain about this?

Ironiy is people moan about this game being "MMO LITE" , implying it's a standard multiplayer game , but then don't compare the pricing with what you would pay for a standard multiplayer game like COD ($60 and then constantly paying for mappacks , and having effectively less content )

LOL DCUO more content that CO? Dunno what you've been smoking. Next you'll be saying DCUO has better customization and more powers.

I'm pleased for the people that like DCUO, each to their own. It does look kinda pretty but it's just way too shallow for me personally.

I'm loving this game except for the one huge gaping flaw. There is currently a bug that allows players with the power of flight to do triple damage with certain weapons while in the air. It seems not many people on this board are aware of it but it's a pretty big issue on the official forums & still has no response from any dev. In pve this isn't a big issue & most people won't even realize it until they go to pvp & get 2 or 3 shotted. My premade was getting rolled yesterday in arena by pugs & I couldn't figure out why until I read the post on the forums & checked my combat logs. Sure enough, these clowns in pve gear are hitting for 3x their normal damage even though I'm in full pvp T1 gear.  Being on a pvp server & being madly in love with pvp this just ruined the game for me & I have cancelled my sub. I hope they'll fix it in a timely manner but customer service & common courtesy isn't a strong suit of mmo companies & I've been strung along too many times with empty promises & vacant phrases  like "we're looking into it....". Sorry SOE, you could easily have a small but loyal playerbase but nobody but the sploiters will want to play a game with this huge of a flaw.

  • dontadowdontadow Member UncommonPosts: 1,005

My biggest concern now, and i'm only level 21, is that there doesn't appear to be a power customization, which plays a lot into the rpg build of a character.  I like just arrow shooting, but it looks like i will be forced to choose another weapon with no real benefit (was hoping there was something like runes of magic where 2 distinct weapon skill trees makes somethin gshiny and new).

Obviously, the social part of the game is horrible. This game needs guild wars 2 type auto grouping considering its fast pace.

Ive got to know what all the naysayers think of the games that have 10 hours of content, cost 60 bucks, and sell millions of copies(or 4 hours, and then nothing but crappy MP to keep you going)?  Thats ok , but if an MMO comes out, you can pay 60 bucks, play for a month, and even if you dont resub, you may of put 30-50 hours into, can u still say its not worth it?  If you dont want to keep playing, dont.  But its well worth 60 bucks if i get a month of fun out of it.  I pay 10 bucks to get into a movie, then another 20 bucks on crap inside, 5 bucks in gas to get there, and thats ok(thats assuming im a loser who goes alone, really you have to double that).  But 60 bucks for a month of fun isnt??

I personally know I'll be continuing on after the month.  Will I play for 6 months, or 6 years, who knows, and who cares really.  Cause 60 bucks for 40 hours(the time itll take to get to 30 roughly if i rushed and did nothing but power lvl) is worth it.  It was worth it in a FF games, and any other SP RPG.  Its worth it here.  I just dont get some people.  Especially the ones who havent played it. And the 15 bucks a month is not just for content.  You are paying the staff to work the game, paying for the massive server costs, and for the content that will come.  Did people not get through all of cataclysms content in a day or something??  There is PLENTY of end game content.  CO had GIANT content gaps while lvling, and nothing to do at lvl cap BTW, cause i saw a few people say it was sooo much better.

There are not the massive amount of bugs and horid stability some say.  The game launched with too few servers, theygot bombarded.  they increased the limits, and added a few more and the game has run as good as wow+7 years since for me.  Chat sucks, yes,   but most chat in a damn MMO is idiots screaming about chuck norris anyway.  And the people that have something I care to hear, have adapted, got a USB KB, and everything is working well enough.  Could it be better, yep, but damn, if you having fun get over it.  Voice your concern to the devs, then shut up and play or quit. I have yet to find a game free of any problems.  Even the games that get 10s, its all subjective to the person playing.  There is plenty that needs work, but again, im going to through out that "F" word....its FUN.

People have this horrible tendacy to want to pull a game down with them if they decide to leave, or don't think it looks good.  Let others enjoy it, and shutup if you havent played it.

And for god's sake people, let NGE go.  I was devestated when HBO cancled carnivale.  Does that mean I'm not going to watch a game of thrones...NO!!!!

And i just want everyone to know....I bought a wii just so i could play monster hunter.  150 hours I put in and have never touched my wii since.  Seems crazy huh.  Avg out what i payed to the hours i spent having fun and i promise you cant find another activity(that costs money)that has a better return for enjoyment.  60 bucks for a month is worth it. Even if you lvl FAST as hell, and do nothing but grind away at the actual game content, you will still play for at least 50 hours(and thats a big at least), and that not including the true end game content that requires full tier 1 or better.

Ive been playing for 2 weeks most nights for at least 3 hours, and im lvl 25 on the killing joke PVP server.  The PVP servers really add a lot of extra bang for your buck, and unlike most games where you can't win against people more than 2 lvls above you due to game mechanics forcing you to miss every attack, I routinly win against people 7 and 8 above me, sometimes higher.  There is no true ganking going on, at least not in large amounts.  I ran an alt to lvl 10 and didnt see a single hero above my own lvl.  And when i do see people higher who try to get me, half the time they get shocked when i kick their ass.  the gankers are the idiots who don't know what they are doing.

So try before you knock it, and if you don't think you will like it, fine, but quit trying to sink a game just to prove you were right.  Cause thats what you people sound like you are doing.

end of stupidly long rant. thank you good night!

That's cool and all, but why pay $60, when it a couple months it will be $30, and cheaper after that, when it is already known to be a game with significant shortcomings/limitations?

Might as well wait, since it is not fantastically, amazingly, good.

Paying full price for an average title, is rewarding a developer for doing a bad job.

  • SBE1SBE1 Member UncommonPosts: 340

Well, first of all this reads like "I want to give this game a really high score so please fix these few things ASAP" kind of article.  Seems biased, but whatever.

I think this is the first MMO game where chat is a huge problem.  Seriously?  How long has the MMO world been around and companies can't get the chat right?  This to me seems like it was made as a single-player console game and suddenly they got this strange idea to make it a MMO game somewhere late in the process.  Furthermore, with such fast leveling (solo, no less) you really have to believe that SOE will deliver meaningful monthly content.  That's a big leap of faith.  Furthermore, wont that monthly content just keep accumulating?  If so, wouldn't it be much better to just wait and subscribe 6 months from now so that you can go through all the content in about 1 month and see if you want to continue?  Why subscribe now when in a week you can max level?

  • RoccprofitRoccprofit Member Posts: 98

Sadly this is an SOE title which means that anything anyone has to say useful to improve the game will be ignored by SOE until they find that not making the improvement is costing them money. Soe cares nothing about the games I am still convinced that the SWG devs have no idea what star wars was about and most of them have more then likely never seen a star wars movie. I don't expcet it to be any different with any of there other titles. There only goal is to see how much cash they can drag out of it.

Get to that point and tell me what you think of the game.

I'll let you know in a few months. I'm levelling 4 different characters right now, all with different powers and weapons. After two weeks, my "main" is level 12, the others are not even level 10.

Try to remember that everything people are complaining about is true only if you follow the usual "Make one character, play it all the time, and get to the end as fast as you can!"

If you spend any time whatsoever seriously hunting for collectibles, doing some open world PvP just for the heck of it, and playing more than one character...then no, you won't easily be 30 in a month.

EDIT: I should mention that I have my eye on 2 other new characters right now, and this will delay my reaching max level even more. Y'know, to some- those of us burned out on the usual fantasy-themed crap -this game is a fun breath of fresh air.

Ok so one month a character then? So if you have 4 characters then you max out on levels and see all their is too see in in four months.

DCUO is obviously for the PS3.  And like most console games you'll get ~100 hours out of it and come back once every 3-6 months to check it out. Unless it's GT5, I have over 500 hours on that already hehe.
