Rift community is not like that, the majority of it is very nice and accept critisicm.

What you just describe is how GW2 fans act and the moderators at GW2Guru. All they do is troll and troll and the trolling create a mad song called Trolololol, Arenanet doesn't see this problem so they ignore it and let it act as their main forum for GW2, while moderators and admins there is ignorant and trollish.I actually got banned on GW2Guru and i will never come back. I'm hoping for ArenaNet to start their own official forum and less dependent on fans to support them on jobs they should do and can do 1000 times better.

All games are not perfect, in a game like Rift when it is in beta, any feedback on problems which can improve the game should be posted without people armed with flaming torches ready to drown the person out.

I agree with Teala, even tho i like Rift alot, still many problems which can be addressed,  if you played games for a long long time in your life, you will find problems, and should be a normal debates on how things can be improved, lets see what happens during beta 6, and see if anything which has been spoken about has been addressed or not, tho from my point of view, i be avoiding the main rift forums due to the large amount of trolling, fanboying and just total tosh you see posted on it.

What did you do to get banned? I haven't encountered that much immaturity from the moderators so far, they only seem to delete every off-topic/offensive/completely uninformed post that litters the forums.

Hold the phone! I'm sorry but have you seen video game sale charts lately? Rift is right there with DCUO. And freaking DCUo is already released. Rift is neck and neck on pre-orders alone so let's not say rift isn't as popular as DCUO.

I've always viewed official forums as the haven for the fans of the game, expect them to be heavily moderated particularly when negative criticism is raised, and normally turn to external forums such as this one to actually come and discuss the dark underbelly of most MMORPG's.

Not saying you are wrong Teala... but have you ever been to Telara before?

Maybe.. just maybe... the squirrels on Telara act a little different than those on Earth or whatever fantasy land you can think of?

You have seen an elf in real life? You know exactly how they sound when they are hit by a forceful object?

Just because YOU feel certain things should be certain ways does NOT mean you are correct because maybe... just maybe... developers are trying to stick with how Telara should be and not how you perceive/want it to be?

Instead of her focusing on the animations she should have focused on the actual content surrounding the squirrels. I mean... Hello chick! The damn things are on fire! And they have all kinda of achievement attached to them... How many games let you light squirrels on fire and collect their tears?

I can only agree with Teala, which is why I gave up posting on their forum long ago. Every time I had posted even something remotely critical, I was jumped on my an agressive fanboi mob. Alas moderators there do nothing for you if you are not among the fanbois.

This is especially fun on the beta forums, where you're supposed to be providing feedback. Most of the time anymore, if I see something, I report it ingame and save myself the aggravation. I will, however, jump in when I see that people are spouting misinformation in a deliberate attempt to mislead others. There's a hell of a lot of that going on right now.

I am not satisfied with Rift community either, the general chat are continuously being spammed , bashing WoW all the time or other games and in forum they will label you as fanboi of other games if you criticize or talk about addons(Huge Aggro).

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

Rift community does not exist. It'll start existing when people start paying for the game. It'll start forming and bonding and give a general idea when at least the first month is over.

What you witness on the forums are random passers by, most of them don't care about the "community feeling". It's the same thing with all MMOs in all betas.

  • WorstluckWorstluck Member Posts: 1,269

Yep, I stopped going to the official forums after Beta 4.  It's a pretty terrible community right now IMO, but it's beta and there are ton of people there just looking for a free ride trying the game out.  I hope the community gets a tad better once the game launches.

On a side note, the moderation there is COMPLETELY crap.  I was given a warning there by a moderater for posting the word 'pewpiepantz'.  Yes I am serious, the moderater gave me a warning for that word.  Someone had asked what would be a good name for a character and I posted that name jokingly.  Never been given a warning about such a silly word before.

EDIT:  I agree about just giving feedback in game rather than the forums.  All the feedback and little bugs I have found has been done through the ingame system.  Forums are crap for feedback with a game of this size.

I think people who like rift ARE a little bit defensive, but that's because what they have played of the game they really liked. All people who like rift hear nonstop is "This is a clone or this isn't innovative at all". Most people who play rift are really working hard at addressing the bugs through bug reports and through contacting gm's. I know i have put in probably at least 10 bug reports on my own. I don't feel the need to write every flaw I find in the forums.

When all you do is complain in forums when the dev team is so open to players, it makes you look like you are trying to flame. Now I am not saying the player base shouldn't address concerns or to talk about possible short comings, but there is a right way and wrong way to go about it. There is a large difference in saying, "while playing rift, I noticed this and was wondering if there was a way to improve it" and "OMG I FOUND A BUG THIS GAME SUCKS TOTAL WOW CLONE". The bad thing is, I don't know if OP was one of those people who was trying to be constructive, but most of the people who feel they are simply pointing something out, are at best no better then trolls. And when you are playing a game you like and you hear the trolls a flaming non stop it makes you defensive. FFXIV was like that, people flamed that to hell and the player base got defensive. Did i think it sucked? absolutely! so what did I do? I tried to post some flaws I saw, noticed that they weren't interested and moved to a different game. Sitting around and getting your panties in a bunch doesn't help anyone, it just makes a flame war that carries on to other forums like mmorpg.com. I am sure a lot of people here really don't care about rift and really don't care to see people whining either way.

In summation I would suggest a few things; Submit bug reports or contact gm's if you are finding something buggy, take a minute and think of how to phrase your issue before posting on the forums (the internet has no body signals so proper grammar is important), if the issue is simply you don't like it and it isn't something about to be changed... leave. It's a pretty simple formula. And sitting around arguing about how you are just trying to help while e-screaming really seems disingenuous. Again i'm sorry if this isn't the case with the OP or anyone else on here, but I am a fanboy of rift, I would love constructive debate on how to make it better, but hearing all the flaming annoys me too.

He had a ragequit when he felt that the mods were censoring the forum by locking any threads that he felt offered up what he thought of as "good criticism" and so he created a thread that specifically targeted the mods and other guru goers and called them out on it.

Look at all the bad games that were supposedly great according to the fans!  Warhammer and Aion anyone?   It is one thing to say a game is good, it is another to trumpet it as the next coming and that is exactly what we've seen time and time again only to watch that games population dwindle to 1/20th what it was at launch.
We do not have a clue how the end game of Rift is at all.  It still has no guild banks.   Some combat animations are the suck.  Melee combat sounds are the worst of any game I have ever played.  That is just a few concerns.   There are many more.   Yet the fans of this game will not let anyone in the least bit critic it at all.  Say one thing that is even the least bit of a criticism and they are on you like flies to poo.

exactly the same thing happens here Teala.
wasnt you very pro Rift a little while ago yourself though?

See....you people totally do not get me at all.  Sure I like Rift.  I think it is a good game for what it is.   That doesn't mean I am not going to write that I still think it needs work.   In my opinion it is not as good as it should be.   Am I pro Rift.   I am a gamer...I want all these games to succeed..well except SWG post NGE.  Glad we brought that POS down.   That is beside the point.   I am pro gamer.   I think that says enough.

what lol?  how is that even relevant to any of this?

Pro gamer meaning she is positive about games and not out to see the flaws. which is very relevant to her rant.

You've just validated everything you complained about. As for trolling, I wasn't, I presented you with an opinion obviousley counter to your own and you've chosen to take it personally.

But this just goes to illustrate the point really, but it's not limited to Rift's forums but any forum.

Read your post on the Rift forums:

    http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?46998-Will-Trion-Address-Lack-Luster-Combat-Sounds-and-MOB-AI

You're crazy if you think your getting flamed there. The responses to your post seem to be pretty logical without much if any flaming at all. People agree with your point on combat sounds and explain why they disagree with your AI comment even though it would be fun for awhile. I dunno, maybe you're used to people fawning all over you because you're a female game and can't handle anything but full agreement from others.

Oh ya a little bit of advice. When trying criticize constructively don't say things like "OMG...Trion developers, do yourself a favor and play Mount and Blade."

  • Rockgod99Rockgod99 Member Posts: 4,640

Teala... You came off really defensive and kinda hostile in that thread.

They didnt flame you, All they did was disagree and give you reasons why.

Seemed like You didnt want to hear any of it and wanted them to just agree with you.

Sorry some players like the AI and combat sounds... I know I do.

Whats strange after reading that thread is at first no one said anything so the OP started provoking a response from other readers. Then when people pretty much said 'meh' to everything she turned up the tempo and started egging for more of a response. Most if not all the responses were pretty tame and apathetic which I think annoyed her even more.

/Shrug dunno, from reading the OP here you would have thought the fans were out for her blood...
