My opinion is that every WoW player actually hates the game but they keep playing because simply there is nothing better out there.

You are getting the game on release but are not pre-ordering? I think you are the dumbass.

You get extra in-game stuff like bags, a free mount, pets, bigger bag and have acess to cheaper sub plans..

Hah!  Well, to each their own.  I disagree with the unimaginative part.  But I can see where you are coming from.  I was hardcore into mmo's before wow, and with each new mmo the comments about a stagant genre have gotten larger and more vocal.  We said the same thing about wow, and now we are just hearing it again; albeit more vocally.

The genre won't change as long as this current situation is still profitable and despite the general malaise around wow players (i loath to concide the point they make up the majority of the mmo market) they tend to still want the same, just modified with some interesting fundamentals.

Is the game distinct enough from wow and the rest of the classical mmo genre for me to find it compelling?  Certainly, though I wish it was farther away from the expected norm but I can still play it for what it is.  Though I suspect I come from a different view as I am fine with the wow-like bits since I have never got pulled into wow.

I am going to save this post, for the next time people get excited over a P2P Everquestish MMORPG.

Pointy ears is not a race. Long beards and midgetry do not a culture make. If there aren't werewolves, dragonmen, catgirls or any other sort of anthropomorphic humanoid, I am automatically critical of whatever shallow excuse for a race system an MMO might have. How about letting us play as a minotaur?

This is pretty much a perfect post to show in about 2-3 months when the true verdict of the game comes out.  I suggest all to save it.  Thank you Wrender.

If you have the time, try scrolling to when WAR was released and a couple weeks prior.  It's so amazingly close to this board right now it's scary.

I honestly don't understand how people see this game as a game that can last.  It has every single characteristic of a game that will be one of those "What could of been..." games.  Wake up people.

Sometimes keeping it short, simple and generic is a good thing. Having too many races doesn't mean it's a better game (Everquest / Everquest II), it just gives you more variety.

~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!

RIFT is far more polished than WAR was, but to see that, you have to try it yourself. For some people, that's not enough to outweigh the fact that, yes, it borrows many of its mechanics/features from previous MMOs. But for the majority who are not tired of WoW-type gameplay, but rather WoW itself, it's a more than fitting replacement.

This will be one of those "Midly successful, not a major threat to WoW but has a noticeable effect" games.

LOL this post made me laugh. This game has nothing that will make it a "game that could have been". It will be a game that will and people like this poster will not be heard from again!!

At least they are'nt really bad looking. All the female toons look doable LoL Only problem is the male human has kinda smallish head. They will probably add more races as the game ages. Love dis Game. Hope all the haters go back to WoW at release. Not my fault RIFT is what WoW wants to be.

I guess they wanted to make sure that they didn't have any 'cool' looking races out of fear of population inbalances, but even a trifle originality wouldn't of gone astray, surely?

The humans you can make in Rift are also limited.  No fat/skinny/tall/short humans You can't make a good human with dark skin, LOL, hell you can't make a bad human with dark skin either in Rift.  Good is white to tan humans.  Bad is white to hispanic dark.  No black hair styles either.   Guess its "NO BLACKS ALLOWED" in Rift.  Just thought I'd point that out.

I was in WoW beta, and I'm in the Rft beta now. Comparing the two, Rift beta is far more feature rich, complete, stable, and bug free than WoW beta was. Part of this is the fact that MMO's have evolved alot since 2004, and Trion has brought together an interesting combination of features and executed them well.

But the things that make Rfit > WoW for me at this point:

    •  The diversity of character builds  -  sure there are only 4 archetypes, but the number of combinations you can create within each is very appealing and gives alot more flexibility with the roles you perform with your character.

    • The graphical style - I've never been a fan of WoW's style, and each expansion seemed to take it to more ridiculous levels. There are no clown suits in Rift.

    • A fresh start - The world PvP in vanilla WoW was alot of fun, until BC came out and the BG grind to get resilience gear killed it.  The world PvP in Rift is proving to be even more fun, and I see many months if not years of exciting PvP in the future as the population learns the game and fully develops thier characters.

I'd rather have more character creator options for the 6 races we have. I absolutely cannot stand trolls, orcs, and weird skeletons as playable races.

I have gotten very used to not responding to lies about games on this site because if I responded to every lie I saw I'd be responding all day.

This, however is not only a lie, it's downright slanderous.

First off, you can't create a human in Rift. If by "human" you are referring to Mathosians then, no, you can't make a black Mathosian. You can make a Hispanic-looking Mathosian though, contrary to your statement.

On the Defiant side you can make a Black Eth with Black hairstyles and I think they look quite good and look every bit as "human" as the Mathosian.

Now I'm not sure what you mean by good and bad, but as far as the lore goes the Guardians completely jacked up the world through blind devotion to the gods and the Defiant are doing everything they can to save it but I'm sure lore doesn't matter to you since it wouldn't fit neatly into the point you are lying -oh, sorry - trying to make.

Now I just want to thank you for stooping to a new low on these forums and trying to bash a game by race-baiting through out-and-out lies.

    Have a nice day.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went from Apprentice to full 5 star Elite in under 2 months. I was pleasantly surprised again when I went from Elite to just barely Hardcore in 2 weeks. Apprentice, here I come!

I've don't get the argument that "good looking races on one faction will lead to imbalances!" Just make the races available to all factions - it's not rocket science.

Who says my Human character HAS to be on the "good" side? Or that my Orc couldn't have turned away from the dark side to join the good team?

Why do MMORPG's, at least those of the WoW/Rift variety, insist on doing everything they can to take the RP aspect out of their games? Want to roleplay an ugly fat male human who's betrayed his country to help the evil empire? Too bad, you have to be a good looking muscular dude who's an absolute paragon of virtue, whether you like it or not.

It's a bunch of bullcrap if you ask me.

  • IkedaIkeda Member RarePosts: 2,751

What are you talking about?  He clearly showed you that PER the character creator he created a dark-skinned person.  Why are you getting all racially incited about it?  Maybe there are no dark skinned people (or maybe they're rare) in the world.   Sure seems to me the environments seem FAR more desert/foresty which WOULD explain the tendancy for the arab/paler complextions.  You're PURPOSELY trying to racebait at this point and I don't think it's right.

    It's only a video game.

In my opinion, the positives outweigh a negative. Beta is a lot more solid then most MMO's. But it's a personal opinion for each person. Not everyone is going to like the game. Who cares, life goes on.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

  • MelogoreMelogore Member Posts: 58

I am not race baiting.  Also you cannot make a darkskinned human looking character in Rift.  Yeah yeah yeah you can choose the purple race and make them dark certainly not human looking though.  Take for example Aions character creator you had far more choices per race than Rift and they only had one race.  Then go back to WoW.  WAY more choices per race to make you toon look different than Rift.  In Rift I made a cleric female and I swear other than hair style I could really see any difference in look than and other female cleric.  I am just agreeing with the poster.  Lame Choices.  Sorry I threw the NO BlACKS ALLOWED.  However that how it feels when making a character.

Being a person of color I tend to like to make avatars that look like me.  That is not possible in Rift.  I throw another MMO that the lore provided no room for blacks.  Warhammer...  Lore this lore that bullcrap all day there to people.  guess what NO BLACKS ALLOWED THERE TOO.  I'm not saying it has to be, its just poor thinking in my book.

Ok, since apparently you are not even talking about the humanoid races, I'm not going to get into the lore/mechanics as to why the races are what they are and just come to the point of the matter.

Have you even launched the game?

Is that not "black enough" for you, or did you miss the skin color selector entirely?

You really just sound like some incredibly whiny entitled individual who looks to play the race card at every opportunity as they have no other way of validating or identifying themselves besides their skin color,  that I don't think we're going to miss not having as part of the game community. This is a fucking fantasy game, the "human looking races" are not even human. Get over yourself.

You can even make Black Dwarfs with afros if you want, Melogore is just full of fail and is trolling. What fantasy based game allows you to create a black dwarf with an afro? Only Rift...

Opps well they must have added the change in the recent beta because I certainly couldn't do that in the last beta.  So I recant my charge on Rift.  I have been slain on this issue.  Do note though I wasn't trolling intentionally.  It wasnt' possible to make a character like that in previous betas and I have not played the recent one.

And in the next update there's new character creation options being implemented. Scott Hartsman also said at DeadPixel that they intend to expand on it after launch as well.
