Asura gates and map travel is good enough. This is one of many reasons what it makes Guild Wars unique from the rest of the time consuming mmos out there.

Unique by removing features that most people love sounds like a bad business plan. Why not be unique by adding great new stuff instead removing something that a lot would like to see. /shrug

I love Deryk's middle pic, that's what I'm hoping for, and not just horses, all kinds of creatures. The more the merrier.

Those pics depicting horses that you have are not GW2 concept art, the first was one made for fun by kekai kotaki, and the second was a freelance he did for a book cover. The last one I do not recognize, but its not horses anyways.

Again. no horses in GW2 lore.

Removing? You're acting like it was in the game to begin with at some point.

Listen, half the people on this board are GW1 players. The mounting feature was never in it. This is a sequel to that game, Mounts aren't being removed, they're not being implemented.

EDIT: Also, it's a great business plan. For all your complaining, you're still buying a copy of GW2. You may be implying otherwise but the feature is too minor to make or break that decision. And guess what? At a later date ANet can even count on you paying for whatever expansion features the mounts! Yay money=)

On an unrelated note, this lore thing started out cute but it's wearing out it's welcome. This is a work of fiction. And I'm not talking literary high fiction like Lord of the Rings. More of a comic book variant. The designers can and will retcon whatever they think will bring in extra box sales. They already did it by bringing the (what should be extinct) Mursaat into GW2.

When you hear in global chat that an event has spawned on the other side of an outpost that you can't travel to yet, you are going to want a mount to get their as fast as possible if you want to take part in it.

i don't think you get the time right - 10 12 minutes to cross a zone, does NOT equal 10-12 minutess to get to a map-trawel point at all. what we have seen from demo is alot af map trawel points in each zone .... and it is alot !

Yay for tel-tel-teleporting everywhere! Cheap. Meh. Look an event started, let's just teleport near it. Then teleport into city to sort loot. Then teleport back to quest location.

then enterprise im ready to teleport back, ups i forgot this is gw2 not star trek

well this thead is about mounts so ur comment is out of place, we care because we want gw2 to be the best game ever, mounts today, something new tomorrow, step by step we'll talk about what we like and don´t

I said no mounts for you. The reason I say no mounts is simple. They gonna make a large world to explore and it seems everyone wants to just zap from point a to point b and back to bank. Why even have a world. Just make a bank and a place where the mob is. Why I say NO TO MOUNTS...See EQ1. Exploration is half the fun.

LOL thanx dude, that's what i was talking about, ain't it look amazing and proper for a fantasy game?. A picture is worth a thousand words. /bow

Are people forgetting how "questing" works in GW2? Dynamic events are going to happen mostly in the outside world. Now you could just look at your map and see where the nearest one is, port to the closest location and complete it, but I highly doubt that's how the game is meant to be play (the Devs only added that feature because people who had little/no prior knowledge of GW2 were missing out on DEs like crazy). I'm sure what they really want is for us to explore; to find new events and hidden gems that are SURE to be littered across Tyria. I for one am in support of player-controlled mounts. We don't need flying mounts, or anything going anywhere near 310% speed, but for a game that promotes exploration I'd rather not damage my middle finger holding the W key for extended periods of time. And we don't need anything ridiculous like riding drakes or motorcycles (although that would be admittedly cute with Asura), simply use the assets that each race already has.

    *deposits two cents*

That is essentially my attitude as well. Obviously no one wants mounts if they will break the game, but it's difficult to argue that mounts would not improve the lore side of things.

But obviously I over estimated your comprehension capabilities guys. It's not a personal assault on you if I dont like teleporting and see it as easymode or whatever, immersion breaking etc. Certainly not hypocrisy since I'm asking mounts ALONG with the teleports, I'm not asking for the teleports to be taken away, am I?

All you need to understand about my posts is: More options are better, something for you guys who like to teleport everywhere, and something for us who want to ride to those places. Hypocrisy? Nah, just hoping for the game to be as good as possible, try to comprehend a bit better before going nuts fellas :)

I am sorry if calling you a hypocrite offended you. But you might want to leave out the cheap opinion when you are preaching about more options. It sounds like you are saying that the feature is cheap and that the only way the game will be good is with mounts. Which is the opposite of saying I want options because I think everyone should be able to play the way they want, since you are demeaning one aspect to make yours sound superior.

As far as mounts go, if they are something more than just a travel speed buff, then I am all for them. If that is the only thing they are going to be, I would rather have the devs not waste time and money putting them into the game right now.

so , how about these pictures from  <The Art of Guild Wars 2> the official book

there are mounts like horses in this world

See  They  r  riding  on   horses

Horse-like Mounts can also  be seen in town

At end,   Dark Ride ?cool  lol

You can't teleport everywhere. You can use asura gates to get to major towns but  outside the towns you have to find and activate the waypoints first before you can teleport back to somwhere you've already been.  For the demo they had all waypoints activated to save time but the game isn't going to be that way.

Interesting that horses exist in GW2 since they didn't in GW1.

They don't (at least not as far we know to this point). Those artworks are portfolio entries for the Anet art team. Anet has even stated that a lot of things seen in the art book will not be in the game, it is just concept and exhibition of the artist's skills.

Until something is posted on the GW2 site, the Anet blog, seen in game, or stated by an Anet staffer, it is not factual lore.

I'm not acting anything, I was simply quoting a person that compared the game to other mmorpgs, most of the other major releases has mounts so yes ofcourse it's "removing" the concept since it was a comparison about it's uniqueness to other games. Stay in context please.

I never said I wasnt going to buy the game, yes I will buy the game it's still awesome even without mounts, not as good, but propably the best thing in a long time, however it does not make me think otherwise about cheap "click instantly there" design choise and yes ofcourse I will bring it up when talking about the game because I am entitled to an opinion. Great can be greater.

I will buy the expansion regardless of it having mounts or not if I like the game, again for the umpteenth time the mounts will just make the game better for many, hardly a "make it or break it" situation.

Oh the irony. With mounts it's "zap from point a to point b" but with teleports and map travel that literally zaps you from point a to b it's fine, lol. Teleporting makes the world feel small since "you're there without even having to travel". And like you said, with teleporting the bank IS WHERE THE MOB IS since you can teleport to the bank right after killing the mob, not possible with mounts.

Anyway, system would be perfect where a person could choose to either use a mount or the gates locking out the other option, both parties would have their method and it wouldnt hurt either.

Exploration is fun yes, riding a horse on the plains untill you find something interesting and then go carefully on foot to find out whatever.

Just chill out. Teleporting is cheap considering mounts need designing and teleporting does not. It's just the fact, and even so I'm not saying there should not be teleporting, please try to understand this.

I never said the game will be only good with mounts, I said I'd rather have mounts and voiced my opinion about teleporting, again chill out, it's nothing personal, just hoping for a possibly great game to be even greater, that's all. I'm not asking anything to be removed, only added, for better experience.

You can now stop trying to put words in my mouth like "you dont want more options, you only want mounts blah blah" since I've said a hunderd times now I just want more options since the current one is very limiting considering a game that's supposed to be "next gen" as many of the fans call it.

A pony would be a mount for kids indeed, but you cant play a child character in this game.

I don't "need" a car in Western Europe either, with public transport and all, but the occasional convenience is just too important for me to ever want to do without.

Same for games: no mounts, no glory.

Also I think that all those heroic knighty people running around by foot will look really silly.

  • SanHorSanHor Member UncommonPosts: 336

I'd rather have DarkPony as a mount then have no mounts at all.

  • emikochanemikochan Member UncommonPosts: 290

Er. You run at faster speed when you put your weapons away. Mounts just wouldn't suit GW.

I've also never seen mounted combat work in a non-retarded way. Just not worth the effort.

Although no living horses are actually seen in GW1 there are indications that they are around (or have been anyway).
