    Whats ruining games?

GRIEFERS, CRY-BABIES, People that think that because they spend 40+ hours a week in a game that the RULE and everyone should listien to them about where the game should go. People that argue over some minute detail that nobody really deep down cares about.

FPS,RTS, or MMORPG is not important the key thing is what comes after that..... GAME

    UNDERSTAND?

If you don't like a game ... don't play it, games are meant to be FUN if you cannot play, have fun and let other people have fun... don't friggin play. Nobody wants to here you whine about everything, shoot we all get enough of that in RL.

Personally I like GW, I can quest with friends and not have to tolerate the obnoxious 14 year old that only wants to frag his team-mates, or I can quest alone if i feel inclined.

    Hardcore gamers hate CASUAL gamers

    Casual gamers hate hardcore player

But from time to time both ruin it for the other,

Can't we all just get along... and play the friggin game!

Just my opinion, which is just as valid as yours... and vice versa

Witty saying to amuse you goes here.

Well I can say one thing,.Guild wars dont have the MMORPG rating added to the user rating yet so its going to drop, probly to 4th or so.I will Defend GW tho,its a vary deep game when it comes to pvp you need to think ALOT once you have 100's of skills to choose from,And I must say its VAry hard to solo the quests,.Stupid hard somtimes,.The map is satisfactory for its size.

I didnt play WOW,there was no point. All my freinds that love games like UO/EQ2 or eve-online or SWG cant stand WOW and say dont waist your time bro,Its short lived. They all never agree on anything but thay all say WOW is 1 month grind 1 week get the best stuff 2 week pvp then puke and uninstall. Not sure why the rating is so high I think this site has bad ratings,EVE-online probly only has 15-25k players active and only peek around 12k players on weekands,.Im sure only like 1000 of them come to this site or ever care to read on sites like this,And that game can out vote Massive player bases like EQ2 or SWG.So ya the ratings dont meen jack $hit.I love eve-online BTW I was just stating simple logic.

Guildwars has the fact its high quality graphics and its free too play so there no money loss so you can play it on the side as you pay too play a high quality game and GW pretty much has almost everything thats make a mmorpg a mmorpg.Grind lvling etc etc only difrrence there is from most is the fact its all insatanced and WE all knew that before it even came out now everyone is bitchen about ironic really.

WoW has considerably expanded the MMORPG market. It will also probably have pretty low long term retention. That means there will be room for more MMOPRGs in the future. That's good for all of us.

There's plenty of room for all sorts of games. If you really think EQ, UO, AC, or whatever crusty classic is the holy grail of perfect game design, by all means go back and play it [actually I personally have been digging me some EQ lately]. Or better yet download one of the free MMORPG design kits (or even Neverwinter Nights if you're not feeling that hardcore) and show us what your idea of a perfect game is. If you're really such a bloody game design genius we'll all play it in droves. But for the love of all that is holy, stop whining that the unwashed "newbie" masses attracted by WoW are ruining your hobby. It's not like they set the EQ servers on fire as soon as WoW was launched.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

If I only have half an hour four nights a week to play MMORPGs, I'd like that time to mean something, to meet new people, to contribute to a greater storyline, to work towards something awesome.
    ...

If that were possible, sure. But thinking back to games I've played in the past like AC, DAoC, and even EQ2, if you don't have the time to devote to these games, it's not really worth playing at all. Half an hour to even an hour, doesn't get you very far into the game.

EVE Online has around 200,000 subscriptions, daily peak time has around 12k of players on at the same time.

GW is popular because it's free. There's no subscription, so people play it in addition to whatever else they're playing. I know so many people who just play that game to PvP.

WoW... it seemed popular at first, but now I'm seeing alot of people quit. They're just getting tired of it. It was cool because it did alot of things right. But it simply doesn't have staying power. I too, have quit. I hit level 60 way too fast for my own taste. Things don't feel challenging, and the community just isn't involved or involving.

So yeah, while you guys may be trying to find some deeper hidden meaning, take a look at it for real. Alot of folks are quitting WoW, and I foresee alot more quitting in the next 3-4 months. It's simply too casual. You may not see FFXI with as many subscribers as WoW right now, but the ones that are there have been there longer and will probably stay there longer than your average WoW player. We'll wait and see.

Is there anything like this on the market or in development?

Dark and Light sounds like it might.

When I played EQ2, I was in a guild which moved from Horizons. From what I had heard and read about, it sounded like it had some good things in which players could shape the world.

I'm subscribed to World of Warcraft mainly because of the ability to solo. I'm fully aware that ability completely disappears at level 60, but it's really just a place to pass the time until something closer to my interests comes along. I like to roleplay in groups and "level up" alone. There just aren't many games around that offer much in either category. Mandatory grouping, full pvp and little or no roleplaying seems to be the soup du jour at the moment, though fortunately these things seem to go in cycles. Right now, World of Warcraft has a decent (if not entirely original) backstory, a pretty environment, more quests than you can shake a stick at, and the ability to do things on your own and at your own pace. That's a nice experience. Is it groundbreaking? Certainly not. Is it worth paying a monthly fee for? It is (just barely) if you're me, it might not be if you're you. If it's not, then you can bet there are game designers lining up for a chance at your bank account. Let's hope they're better guessers than the current crop for both our sakes, though.

I have changed my mind about WoW, I think the game is good. At first i was swayed by the "cartooned" graphics. To be truthful I thought the game was going to fail and be being so stubborn saying that " the warcraft franchise should stay a rts". I was wrong. The graphics make it that fun and the grind isn't all that hard compared to most mmogs. The community makes it have that newbie inviting feel.

GW is different that what makes it so great. While you play the game updates itself no more looking at the update. The graphics are fantastic taking after EQ2 and community is great offering help and hints to make gaming that much more fun. No more pay and play with this title just buy the retail and updates will come to you.

These two games are great in their own right and if you get thy chance you should play them both.image

World of Warcraft - too casual for the hardcore players, too hardcore for the casual players. Anyone ever done a molten core raid, casual player friendly my ass.

because Blizzard has what it takes to make great games. It's missing several features, but it's fun, and that's why people love it. Also, if anything, WoW needs more servers to control its server pop. World of Warcraft broke records, and sold more than 600,000 copies in one month. The 1.5 million (and now approaching 2 million) players overwhelmed Blizzard. So again, WoW needs more SERVERS!
