I wonder if this will be a common occurance to try and keep subs.

If developers start releasing new events and content at the end of the first month on a regular basis, the genre has a bright future.

You almost said it: "releasing it at the end of the (first) month" - doesn't that sound a little fishy to you? how can one release stuff at the end of a month and not be called "game-shop" when you are only able to play it by subbing another month?

This is sort of an item-shop. Itemshop2.0 so to say. That's not even intelligent that's obvious what they are planning if they will release "new content" at this certain regular basis.

Likely though, I'll bridge the time until The Witcher 2 arrives, buy Crysis 2 when it's price dropped beyond the 10 bucks mark (which will be in august) and bridge to 11.11.11 when my alltime favorite Single Player CRPG ever ever ever rings the bell for round V... Skyyyriiiim!!!!1

And hopefully, then the year will turn 2012 and SWTOR is about to release.

Meanwhile I'll stay subbed to EVE, as I have been for the last 6 years.

No no no. Nobody forces you to go back.

It's just like Totalhalibut (youtube) said it while testing it: "Why should one sub a Wow-like Game when everybody has a Wow-Sub these days?" and this includes to me "...when almost everybody has played Wow these days."

I played it for a long time - but why should I invest time in something which is almost the same/feels the same just set in another age/setting.

I don't understand publishers these days... really!

PS: To be honest it's really dangerous to create Games which creates a similar fealing to one Big Game like Wow "was" to many people. Because it can creates a "damn, I miss Wow/wanna go back"-feeling :) I'm pretty sure

Staying.  Guild I'm in of about 20-30 consistently online also staying and not going back to WoW.  Matter of fact, saying WoW in Rift is like a curse word.  People are tired of WoW(which is inevtibable, it IS old) and want the new fresh feel of Rift.  Besides, Rift is fun and the soul system alone trumps WoW's class/tree design any day.  Graphics are better too. :D

R6, all favor gear  done most dungeons but im not the kind of player that spends hours sitting in a instance over and over. It feels horribly boering and crappy.

So I quit this game before even 1st month was over..

People were reacting allergic to 'WoW' after 6 months. When I quit WoW July 2005 I went to Everquest 2, and people there were already jumping at people even mentioning 'WOW', back then, people said it was 'a bad comic mockery of an MMORPG with no crafting, no meaningful PvP, no housing and generally nothing worthwhile except a lot of space to quest' - So that hasn't changed much since then.

Still WoW is going strong... and probably will for some years to come. At least until Blizzard releases another MMORPG. You just gotta admit nobody is pumping out quality games like those guys. They even managed to get finished products out the door back in the early 90s when their team was still small and the RTS market was dominated by Westwoods Dune and C&C series.

Glad that I'm not the only one who criticises these-days-MMOs.

What else can be said? Same here. Been there done that and thank you very much but I've had my fill. Rift and DCUO were my last MMORPGs for the time being.

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd go back to single player games.

I've played almost all of the big MMOs out there and not even TERA had me glued to my PC until sunrise. The combat was nice and the gfx were O_O I'll give it that.

Patience is a virtue eh...? I'll wait and see what else gets thrown our way the coming year or two.

I like the idea of a virtual world where I can meet other people and kick butt in combat. It's just that something's off...might be just me.

Quite frankly, this game is not for ppl like you. Yea i know other ppl with R6, but none of them has playstyle and playtime which I would describe as 'normal' .

In regard to the OP's question, I will be staying with Rift for the time being.  To be honest, I chose Rift as my "waiting for SWTOR" title for the Spring and Summer (hopefully not too long into the Fall and Winter).  I enjoy the fact that I am comfortable with the game in that it is familiar, along with the level of polish.  The concept of rifts are interesting enough to keep me around for awhile, but I don't know that it would have any lasting staying power for me personally.  But, for now, I'm enjoying the game for what it is in anticipation of a change of genre to sci-fi in the Fall.

So far I've spent close to 100 hours into Rift, Lvl 43, without slacking full-time work. I like it but, if a better game comes out, I would slowly migrate to it.

Not leaving at all, Rift is my MMorpg home :)

My step son sat around from age 12-16 playing WOW. When I asked him if it was any good, he would say "No, just bored" or "No, my buddies are playing though". That's the mentality that alot of gamers have now, four years put into WOW just because that was where the "herd was grazing". This is a big reason we see posts like this. It's not about the quality, the IP, the immersion or anything. It's simply a migration.  Jump in, blindly grind out 60 hours a week game play, get bored, move to new game repeat process, post about being bored, buy new game, repeat process, fill forums up with posts about leaving this game, bored with that game, yada, yada, yada.

I love it when people say things like this.

It's like, "Oh man, I just ate 20 pizzas, I hate pizza."

Basically, you've sunk in around 200-300 hours of play time in a game that you now describe as "boring and crappy".  Even lenthy AAA single player games rarely boast 30+ hours of gameplay. Rift exceeded that in multiples and now you say that you have not been entertained.

well i left but not because of the game, i moved and cant get dsl despite the fact att told me they serviced the area and my neighbor having dsl but i cant get it, pretty annoying.  so i left the game but not because of the game, so polls like this dont mean jack, some people leave for alot of different reasons.

Most of the posters I read about that are bored with Rift are younger players who play a straight line to max level.

I've been playing 4-8 hrs a day since early play and have only reached lv 32. Between crafting, harvesting, pvp, artifact hunting, general exploring, questing, socializing, and guild activities...I find leveling to be slow.

I've found that a mmo is what you make of it. I like to think out of the box and create my OWN content.

For example...I make my own quest.

Go find 50 tin ores, make 50 bars and place on the Auction house. Reward? 50 gold.

But since you're not 50 yet you will be missing a portion of the week long event happening the 30th. Trion Worlds expects most to already be at 50. My entire guild is level 50 except me. I'm just not having as much fun as I thought I'd be and I really didn't set my expectations very high to begin with.

I'll also be leaving after the free month.  I got to 43 on my cleric and 23 on my Rogue, but I just can't log in anymore.  No doubt this is one of the most polished launches I've seen in mmo history, yet the questing and rifts provide little challenge.  Overall not a bad game just not what I'm looking for in a mmo.

So, you know 40 people that left a game they were tired of to go to another game that they are now tired of, only to go back to the same game they were tired of.

how do you know they went to Rift because they were tired of WoW or other games?  -Zeno- didnt say the ppl he knows were tired of wow or xsyon.....

im going back to wow and i was never tired of wow when i moved to rift.... im very indesicive and i always play more than one game but rift dont have races that i like so i dont enjoy playing sucky races

.... so... it was just your opinion that they could be tired of one game to move to another one... then go back to the one they were previously tired off....

I hope you realize that people are probably reading your post and responding to the poll based on the last sentence "curious to see how many people here are staying past the first month". Then you go and say "Leaving rift?" for the poll title, I wonder how many people said no to the poll title but meant no to OP's last sentence? Hmmm

Dont believe what others say on the net what he say here is not true its just what he hopes lol and he just want to provoke a discussion becouse he is affraid WoW is losing in the long run. Everytime a new mmo comes also these topics pop up lol useless topics.

the fact that Rift is growing strong doesnt mean wow is losing continuously without adding any increase in subs... many of those ppl jump month to month from either wow to rift, rift to wow, rift to aoc, or to war or back to wow, or whatever..... there just too many ppl in the world that play all these games to judge  (from opinions made in one  forum) any games success or fail in the long run... Rift is growing, wow as well... and both are losing ppl so... that doesnt mean they will fail, for now

also if somebody leaves Rift it doesnt always mean that person switched to wow, or viceverse......

Left WoW for Rift. Left Rift for Conan.

Im leaving as soon as SW:ToR comes out & I am NEVER going back to WoW. Rift is ok, its polished & new & it runs well & the devs seem to care but its pretty boring & the pvp is terrible.

I'm sure its doing well numbers wise, I don't think Blizz needs to too worried but Rift is certainly holding its own I'd say. The only group of people that I see really griping about hte game & actually leaving are the arena junkies & other than WoW & GW I don't know of any mmo's that have arenas so not much you can do.

It's really sad that the mmo community is always looking for the next "wow killer" & the fact that most devs in the industry follow along with this method of thinking only makes it worse. If they had any brains they'd be trying to reach out to new groups of players with innovative gameplay & proper marketing instead of every mmo company trying to desperately grab a piece of the 12mil mmo playerbase pie.

I stopped my sub because I haven't had the desire to play in a few weeks.

Good game, still stand by my assessment of the game via my blog posts, but at the same time... as good of an adaptation to "the forumula" as Rift is, it's still the same formula.

I tell ya, if I could marry the space combat of STO with the universe of EvE and wrap it in a skill based advancement system that wasn't just passive-over-time like EvE but also gain-through-use at the same time...

and somehow make the galaxy open instead of divided into instances/sectors...

    Would be my perfect MMO.
