random loot needs to be the future

DrunkWolfDrunkWolf Member RarePosts: 1,701

To many games with " end game raids ".  Random loot needs to be the future of MMO's, im tired of knowing what boss drops what in games. the loot needs to be totally random, the harder the mob the higher the stats on your random loot.

then the crafting system needs to be there to add bonuses to the loot, and im sorry but even when crafting it needs to NOT be 100% every time. the higher the crafting skill the better chance you have to apply stats but still has a chance to fail. pretty much in the end nobody is going to have  ( the best ) of everything.

This keeps people playing, they are allways on the look out for somthing better. there is no stand around some city with all the best epic everything trying to look cool, but in reality your bored as f-ck because you have nothing left to do but complain that there isnt enough content.

Diablo imo had a very good loot system, I wish we would be seeing more of it in MMOs.

If you're bored with a game its time to move on imo

I never understood the thinking behind getting everything in a game then standing around town doing nothing.

Random loot won't make a game more enjoyable because premium items are easier or harder to get.. it really comes down to if the game is fun or not.. if it isn't just move on ^^

    I totally agree.

But do keep in mind that there would have to be either a great amount of boss content or no raid instance timer lockouts.

You cant just have random loot on a boss you can only do once a week, well i dont think so anyways, i just cant see that working out.

However if you could farm these mobs repeatedly like Diablo as the above poster mentioned then it would be a lot more fun and random loot could work.

Ive never personally liked the week long lockouts and stuff, thats just stupid to me, it spoils the fun. Not because i want to farm all day long and get loot in one sitting but because i enjoy killing monsters and bosses. Only being able to fight a mob once a week has always just been real stupid to me.

I always wished that there was a real mmo that had random loot. Unfotunantly all we got was Hell Gate London and Mythos which just doesnt cut it for me.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO

The only reason why these companys put raid timers on is to make people take that much longer to get their gear. your doing the same quest over and over for that piece of gear that you know for a fact drops on that mob. that is fun for some people i guess.

to me i would like to go out and explore and get a lucky drop. or do a epic quest run with my friends because its fun and we might get a good drop. anything we do in the game can turn that drop of loot that i might of been looking for.

yeah man the loot system was awsome, you could find for example 10 different bows while out exploreing. and every single bow would be different, there was many  different stats that could be on a item. so the possibility was endless.  you take the one you thought was best for you, and with crafting you apply different metals to it to try and boost stats you want to boost on it. and if it failed then you take the next best bow you had found and try that one.

I think boss loot should have a point tho. I mean it does take a lot more effort kiling a boss than it does killing random creatures out in the world.

But i definitely do like the idea. Bosses could have a much higher drop rate for certain "unique" items and drop more, just like Diablo as we've mentioned.

I still wish there was no lockout timers on raids, i will never think thats a good idea.

Asheron's Call had the best loot system of any game I've ever played.  The randomization was incredible.  All mobs had loot tables, some better than others, and some WAY better than others.  Some mobs, you'd get more of a certain type from, some you'd get other types of loot.  It just worked, and it was awesome.

The way armor dying worked was cool too, because certain pieces on the armor wouldn't change from their original color, so the random loot gen was relied on to find a piece that fit what you were looking for.  Sometimes you'd get lucky and find something incredibly high armor level with the perfect color you wanted, and it was like Christmas!

Amen OP.  I also agree that the highest end loot (legendary items) should be a random drop from ANY mob, but with a scaled chance toward higher end mobs.

  • DrunkWolfDrunkWolf Member RarePosts: 1,701

i agree bosses should give a higher chance to get better loot, also would like it if the bosses were in big dungeons that wernt instanced or linear. also these dungeons would have respawns, no more of this " clear the instance then fight the boss crap ".

give me a huge dungeon that i can get lost in, make my group search for this boss while fighting respawns. make us earn this boss fight. spawn the boss in different parts of the dungeon give us clues along the way make us think and figure out were he is before we slay him.

haha I was surprised that Blizzard did not randomize their dungeons in WoW. Man that would make the game 1000x better and its already awesome. I dont play anymore tho.

im pretty sure the have a free trial, go check it out if you can get past the 1999 graphics its one of the best games you will ever play.

Its a sandbox style game with no classes, and the skill system is awsome. every time you kill somthing you earn whats called unasigned XP to spend on your skills.

so say for example you kill a Drudge and get 100 xp.  you will get 100 xp towards your level plus you will get like 75 unasigned XP that you can save up and spend on what ever you want.

once you save up a bunch of unasigned xp you can level up say your sword skill, or melee defense, or war magic, or healing and so on and so on.

you can build your character how ever u want....

Unfortunately, I can't agree with the orig. poster.  All will have their own opinions, and loot rules will never appease everyone.

I love knowing the only way I can get my Epic Shoulders (for example) is if I kill a certain end-game boss... no Head Piece until X is down.  It gives me a goal, a purpose.

What I don't like is related to what you are stating... limited loot tables.  I really can't stand knowing the ONLY piece I need drops from 1 boss.  Perhaps make bosses drop more pieces you can use...?

Right now, loot tables are so small.  When 1 boss drops only 1 piece of loot i can use (and you know what I mean... Mage DPS doesn't roll on SPI gear), then I have a problem.

Make more gear... make multiple tier sets... something... anything to break the pre-cog.

Don't know in other games, but I tried the "random loot" in Aion, and that's one of the reasons I left the game.

About 90 runs in the same dungeon and got 2 pieces of armor. Some days we don't had even "junk loot".

Also crafting was so random that a lot of people at end game begin to feel "lucky" or "unlucky". And nothing to revert  the situation. Considering also that is a full time job to equip a character or crafting something..oh well, is really too frustrating.

I consider myself a kind of hardcore gamer with a job and a family...and I prefer when my efforts are rewarded.

So I prefer to gather coins from instances and have multiple possibilities to get good stuff instead that rely on being lucky or not.

And I agree. Is not a problem of loots. If you are bored is time to change game: having random loots can only get frustrating, IMHO.

    But is me.

I know your pain of Aion, i played it and trust me it is total garbage compared to the way Asherons Call random loot is.

I wish mmo's would get rid of the stupid loot system as is. You always get some random weapon or armour that the boss doesn't even use, or seemingly have in his possession. I'd rather have bosses and endgame type of mob just drop materials for crafting, that would increase in quality or change type with the bosses. Then you could bring it to a crafter to help make crafting relevant (which it usually isn't besides for some consumables), and you wouldn't have to wait for dumb luck.

It would also feel like a less game-ish mechanic than the loot system currently is.

Random loot should be "OK". Store bought loot should be "barely acceptable". Player made gear should be the best.
