Reason #1. ingame bugs are brutal, still yes as of now, today.
Reason #2. Game lag is brutal, has been terrible and getting worse.
Reason #3. SOE customer service is at an all time low. SOE is letting go of the CSR's so game tickets are backed up into the thousands....yes thousands and not getting answered/corrected/fixed/responded too/taken care of.
Notice BTW I havent even mentioned the CU yet...lol
I still have a week or so left on one of my accounts where I have a char on Ahazi. I still log in every couple of days with some hope that SoE has fixed things and I could just get used to the new version of the old game that I loved....but its a mess....at least on Ahazi. As far as my comments about csr's getting the axe, go to almost any popular non-SoE unofficial SWG forums and you will find many of the csr's there giving a behind the scenes veiw of the state of SWG. MAybe lots of sour grapes from them, but it always sounds like things arent good.
If you do buy it, good luck and I hope you will enjoy it. set your toon up on Naritus and look up Erillion and his crew. It sounds like he is realy helping newbs get started on the right path with the game as it is now.
eh , maybe you would get a better unbiased opinion in the general forums. Also tell us what kind of games you are into. Just because I or he may like the game doesnt mean you will like the game.
The only poeple that have lag problems are those who don't have enough memory or an otherwise crappy setup. Don't blame the game for your own shortcomings.

I have 2.8ghz cpu with 1gig of mem and 256 vid card.
How much more do I need?
Its not my PC. Every program or game I run works just fine....except SWG. A short time before the CU was implemented, I NEVER got lag with this setup. Even in the middle of Cnet starport on a busy night, no problem.
Theres no way you can blame my pc on SoE's shortcomings.
Reason 1: It's FUN Reason 1a: Player Base is Top Notch. Great Community and lots of Role Players Reason 2: Beautiful Graphics Reason 3: Incredible Depth Reason 4: Only MMO with Twitch 3D Spaceflight Combat (EVE is NOT twitch nor is it true 3D spaceflight) Reason 5: Thousands of Quests Reason 6: Never get bored. Reason 7: If you get the SOE All Access Pass for an extra 7 bucks you get access to EQ, EQII, PlanetSide and EQ Online Adventures as well as Tanarus, Infantry and all of SOE's other games. For the price you cannot beat it. (If you don't like ANY of those other games this isn't really a big help. But it's nice to know you have something to do for 'free' if the servers are down for updates). Reason 8: Customer Support is very responsive. They are MUCH better than they were even 5-6 months ago.

2.) It's always changing but rarely for the better
3.) More "completed" games are out there for you to play that don't feel slow and busted every time you turn around and try one aspect of the game. I don't think 1 profession I ever played felt correct in swg.
Lastly the CU was disrespectful to its veterns. Trust the people saying the behavior of SOE is horrible. Since day 1 I have had nothing but problems with the game and getting soe to fix or own up to any problems. Hell they told me to buy a new pc one day because of an issue I had post service pack 2. That is what you can expect. Noob csr's, brutal forum censors, developers who don't take ques from volunteer correspondents, marketers with no clue that a wookie world was the last thing a game set in this star wars time frame needed, idiot president running a gaming company, stupid people in positions they never should have occupied like Ralph Koster the man who came up with the holo grind.
I could go on and on and on about stupid decisions implimented by stupid people but I won't. Just stear clear of SOE. Look to WoW if you want to pay, guild wars if you want a free experience, Matrix online for sci fi and City of Hero's for that super hero junkie fix we all love.
Anyways don't listen to the slappies of this game. It has never gotten a good review from any reputable company ever. Check Techtv's reviews. It is dead on about the game.
Well, WWIT what "256' vidoe card do you have? They made 5200's 256 so it may be your card. If you're going to be talking about your setup at least know what video card you have. I have yet to recive any lag and I have a gig of ram as well.
there is an easier option to getting peoples views on the game and thats to try it on fileplanet you can get a 10day trial for free that is plenty to see if you like the game or not.
scrap that i just found that its closed and its 2gb download i feel dumb

How about this, at the time I was playing swg, I had an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ with 1gb of pc 3200 (400mhz) ddr, an ati radeon 9250 with 256 mb ddr vid ram, a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy, and a DSL connection with no less that 1.5 mbps connectivity and I still lagged. Unlike many others, I know why I was lagged. SWG doesn't have an actual game engine, it's simply an interactive flash movie that is coded like a game. The lagg is caused by the constant feed from the game server. The glitches tend to be caused by Microsoft Flash. Had the devs gone with SUN flash, (the people who originally invented it) instead of microsoft flash there wouldn't be so many glitches. Probably wouldn't eliminate them all though. As far as lagg goes, well, they just chose a bad medium for online play. They did make it look good though. That seems to be what brings in business, pretty colors and textures, not gameplay.

When I say not economically feasable, I mean that if you mine your own resources and you are not a combatant, then you're going to have some serious resource problems. Thus making crafting infeasable. However if you buy resources from another player and you had an operation up and running before CU, then it wouldn't be very hard.

Well, I do mine my own resources (with MANY harvesters on Lok) and my toon that does harvester runs is combat level 7. I need to be careful when driving, yes, but thats about it. If something REALLY bugs me (like a Kimogila humping my harvester spot on) I could always call in a guildmate. But that happens very rarely.

The game is actually finally shaping up to be a decent game now. It floundered for a long time after the devs lost touch with what they were originally trying to accomplish with SWG. It was never meant to be a solo game. It DID NOT start out as a solo game and there were no player jedi in the beginning. That was when the game was at its absolute best.
With the introduction of doctor buffs and enhancing foods the players all became invincible solo players who simply grinded missions endlessly with no risk to themselves whatsoever. This did 2 very bad things to the game 1. it ruined the community by taking out any need for grouping or codependence. 2. it ruined the economy by giving the players easy access to millions of credits.
They have finally come to their senses and started to change the game back to something closer to its original form.

''Guild crafters''? Erillion also mention he need his guild from time to time to craft decently...
I wonder...a crafter need to either fight or have a guild who can fight for him? Doesnt sound like a viable crafting system, but more like an unfair edge to those who happen to have this edge, say edge have nothing to do with crafting.

Nope. I said if someone REALLY bugs me I CAN (dont NEED, can) call in a guild buddy to remove an offending mob. I could also check on the harvester later if I want. Or use my bag o tricks (like sacrificing a droid to bait the mob into chasing after the droid while I work on my harvester).
Being in a guild makes many things a lot easier, but its not a necessity. Its just more fun than playing solo !

Um Here's what I read: I'm a jedi I get killed because I get on the terms. I don't like to solo If I group I get on the terms.
Just a clue: JEDI is supposed to be hard. It's supposed to be the HARDEST TEMPLATE to accomplish. This is because once you finish your template a JEDI is the most powerful template in the game, bar none. A fully templated Jedi is the equivalent of a full group of combat professions (and then some) all by himself. Did you honestly believe they would make it easy for you to get that powerful?
I swear, I cannot believe how many Jedi whine and moan about the fact that being a Jedi is difficult.
Just a clue: It's SUPPOSED to be difficult. Hell jedi used to suffer permadeath. How'd ya like them to put THAT back in?
My biggest gripe about SWG is, always has been, and always will be, the morons who whine that it's hard to be a Jedi.
And, just to make sure you know that I know where you're coming from: I've got a Padawan myself.

I have all the settings in the game maxed with exception to LOD detail distance, its set at about 50% and I never have any problems with video latency, server latency, or a hardware inadequacy. If you don't beleive me your welcome to look at all my screenshots. I run the game at the max resolution as well.

LAG is almost 100% client based. I run smooth as glass. Both before and after CU. In fact I even INCREASED my graphics settings last night and still run smooth as glass. Even in a full guild event on Kashyyk.
And I can solo or group just fine. I solo a lot because my schedule doesn't usually synch up with my guild and often times since I'm watching kids I can't stay at the keyboard enough to guarantee a group I won't go AFK. So I solo. I get plenty of xp and have lots of fun Solo... not sure what you mean by you can't solo in SWG. I've played 4 different combat templates trying to figure out what I like best since CU and all of them have solo'd just fine. My current template isn't even pure combat... I'm medic/TK.

Did you honestly believe they would make it easy for you to get that powerful?Thats interesting, I read on the SWG forums that said that Jedi are only suppost to be 1.2-1.5x stronger than a regular PC. Thats because everyone kept complaining about how Jedi owned everyone else.
I swear, I cannot believe how many Jedi whine and moan about the fact that being a Jedi is difficult.
Just a clue: It's SUPPOSED to be difficult. Hell jedi used to suffer permadeath. How'd ya like them to put THAT back in?Well, with -root- and the huge amounts of repec'ed BH's, that would be a sure fire way to get a whole nother batch of vets to quit
My biggest gripe about SWG is, always has been, and always will be, the morons who whine that it's hard to be a Jedi.
And, just to make sure you know that I know where you're coming from: I've got a Padawan myself.
You run smooth, but I never had lag until the CU. Its different for everyone, you should know that.
I prefer to solo, but I did not mind grouping. That is why I love City of Heroes, you can do either and excel at the game
