Very, Very cool video, but then wtf, immortality near water? you can sure die, but PVP near water seems to be a pain.

yeah I feel the same way, even tho I understand they want to make visually clear whats happening instead of reading debuffs it does sometime looks like fireworks on drugs ... I fear big fights will be kinda confusing

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

What? I don't even... you realise that your post is proof that you didn't watch the video, right? I mean, it's absolute proof.

Gills, you say? Really now? Did you miss the long part of the video where they showed the breathing apparatus and said "This is breathing apparatus, it allows you to breathe underwater!"? Did you somehow miss that?

With charr tech being what it is, breathing apparatus certainly wouldn't be beyond them. Why would they need gills if the video shows them having breathing apparatus to do the same thing?

If you're going to troll, at least troll in an informed way. :|

Lol, calm down and reread the link.  It didn't say anything about "breathing apparatus" only that you don't have to keep coming up to breathe.    The video posted above doesn't show anything of the sort as far as I can tell either.  What I said was based on the context that I received the information in.   Does it really matter anyway?

I'll have to play it to know what it will really feel like,  but I don't find it particularly enticing.

That's sort of the whole point in GW2. It's supposed to be a different experience.

Not to hate, but WoW basically had 2 things different underwater. Breath bar, and z-axis. They basically gave you a z-axis, but said you could only explore it a bit due to breath bar. I'm actually trying to remember (long time) and I think those were the only 2 features added by water. Oh and the speed was altered too.

I don't want to list everything but... GW2 has different combat under water with sinking and floating enemies. Water specific weapons. No combat on the surface. Drowning state instead of downed state. A separate pool of skills for underwater (since some don't make since) and of course there is no breath bar, and no speed altering. It should be fresh enough to keep interest, but not so alienated that you feel like your playing a new game. Of course, it's not realistic at all either. :(

I guess the biggest gripe you could have against GW2 water content is that it doesn't always look as good as the fields/forests of the upperground. Though the upperground won't always be pretty either. Then of course there is the problem where you can't wield your great looking sword or staff underwater.

Other than that, underwater shouldn't be a hassle like it was in WoW. Hopefully. :)

I don't understand why people are making an issue about breathing forever underwater.

**You put on an underwater breathing apparatus.***

That's why you can breath underwater you're wearing scuba gear or sorts..... Guess it's more complicated than it sounds. wow..

This is NOT "Full Featured" water,it is actually a throw back to early 90's,it is a VERY cheap effort by A-Net and follows the rest of the games design ...cheap 101.

UT99 aside from modern tech physics, did have water zone properties, that is what?12 years ago?Half life even several years ago already had some nice physics in it,Anet is putting out a half ass effort in MOST if not ALL of it's design features.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

About what I expect from someone that says there is absolutely nothing new about dynamic events! Here you go have a tissue so you can cry more that this is not a sandbox game and some people like it. Oh and by the way I will take your opinion seriously when you design a MMO and show ANET how it is done, talk is cheap! So why don’t you show us how ANET is putting in just cheap effort MR I am the greatest programmer ever and I know everything about making games!

Nothing new! Oh so ever MMO to date has had unique skills for under water combat! That must also mean ever MMO to date has hate unique weapons and a unique death mechanic made to include the z-axis. Yep nothing new here, you are so right! Although I honestly cannot expect anything else from someone that thinks TOR is the best thing since slice bread, after anything GW2 does that is interesting is bad for your game. So you must go out of your way to say how it is nothing new!  :)

Oh wow.. that.. came out of nowhere. Nice to meet you!

About the underwater content.. I'm on the fence here. I don't like the whole underwater concept in any game, but I can really appreciate ArenaNet's effort so I'm not gonna judge it yet. But I can see, that the biggest problem in any game was indeed the limited time you can hold your breath. It's about that feeling of being somewhat limited and in danger of drowning, that it prevented players from exploring and fully grasping the surroundings in peace. So if this is not the case in GW2, swimming could get quite fun.

Good they got rid of the breath bar Its really irritating

Also in the vds I saw so far it was not as if it was a easy ride

There are not of sea creatures attacking all the time

He went up to the shore line and then the pirates attacked him.

Actually no I don't. I do not agree with their space combat and I think it shoudl have been left out, but I do not mind it is in there. How did that look any different then the land combat we have seen in GW2?

    In Bioware we trust!

Differences between GW2 land combat and underwater combat.

Water combat uses the Z-axis land combat does not; see abilities that make targets float to the surface or sink to the bottom.

Water combat has special skills that you can only use underwater and also has weapons that cannot be used anywhere else. See spear and spear gun, and skills like boiling water.

Water combat has a completely different down state. In land combat you enter the down state and are rallied by killing an enemy, or a team mate helping you up, or you die and get returned to a way point. In underwater combat you start drowning and have to either make it to the surface (so you can breathe again), or have a team mate help you or kill an enemy, or return to waypoint.

In the end that is not the point; the point is that they are trying something different with their underwater combat so it is not a repeat of every other MMOs. Is GW2 under water combat different from WoW, LOTRO, or Rifts under water combat? The answer is yes! It is the only MMO on the market right now that has unique skills specifically designed for being used in the water!

So let’s see if anyone actually does any reading is GW2 underwater combat different from its land combat. Answer: Yes

So is there any reality where you're statement about there being nothing new with the underwater combat actually correct? Because so far you’re batting 0!

     Word.

Right now, GW2 is looking pretty awesome.  The only real fear I have is that it may not deliver on its promises, but even then, people have played demos and said that ANet can "walk the walk."

I know there are a lot of people that want to trash GW2, but the only valid argument I see them having is that its a bit radical and unproven.  I don't see how anything that released is "conceptually" bad.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
