I ask you, Where is the Fantasy channel?

Thats kind of a moot question.  When you consider that fantasy and Sci fi are really one of the same.

It's more of how sci-fi is treated. Most sci-fi I see is really just fantasy in a modern wrapper. I-Robot is sci-fi, Foundation series is Sci-Fi, 2001 a space odeyssey is sci-fi. I don't consider Star Wars sci-fi as if one took away all the trappings of ultra modern society the story would still work. Take away all that technology and could just as easily slip Star Wars into a fantasy setting.

But that's a topic that has been argued quite a bit on these forums.

and I think this is one of the reasons Bioware is going after their own audience by catering to the kotor/Bioware fans first and not the MMO crowds.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

can you even group in this shitball of solo-RPG? ^^

fantasy will beat sci-fi any day. and star wars is bad sci fi fantasy, so it beats itself.

I'm pretty sure there's a huge amount of info out there that indicates "yes" there is a lot of grouping.

Oh here's the Star Wars vs LOTRO clerks II bit. Not safe for work.

Star Wars is bad sci fi fantasy?   Um, yeah.  That's why it has such a cult like following, it's made probably billions in sales between the movies and all the stuff sold, and also why we're chatting about it online today in 2011, right?  It might not be your cup of tea, but it definitely isn't bad sci fi fantasy.

I'm not so sure about taking down WoW... I mean, a lot of people prefer WoW's type of fantasy over a futuristic Sci-fi game(me being one, I just like the classic old-school fantasy games lol). I'm not saying people don't like Star Wars, either!

I haven't read everything about the game but the classes seem somewhat.. lacking. There's Jedi, 2 classes who use guns, and then consular.. Doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of customization (unless they're making more classes, idk).

People said that Rift was gonna kill WoW. Did it? Nope. Just because it's based on a popular topic, has voice overs AND a story line, there's no telling what it's gonna do. Imo the collector's edition is a way to make sure they get plenty of money if the game turns into something like Rift(losing subs, etc).

Tor will supass wow in subscription base in the long run, this is the wow killer im talking about.

Wow will suffer from losing its subscriber base to SWTOR. The pre orders for SWTOR is unprecedent , never before seen in either RIFT or WAR, or AOC. Pre orders already surpassed expectations,

And i would hate being server engineer for SWTOR when it launches. I am 100% positive that SWTOR login system will break.

Star Wars is one of the most popular movie title ever filmed... Even today people are writing books to continue the story after the movies or to create the story before the movies under LA supervision... So no it's not a bad sci-fi fantasy... It's an excellent sci-fi after all this years... Movies are great and the books before and after the story from the movies are well written and amuzing... This game has yet to proove it's big enough to hold up the pressure of the fans, if not it will fail terribly.

And what makes you think fantasy would beat sci-fi any day? If game is good and fun to play and keeps you interested to keep playing the game after you try it doesn't matter if that game is settled in future/space/etc or in a world full of 2 headed dragons/elementals/flying pigs...

Undead, lots of undead again. That will put some WOW back into WoW. Instead of merely putting out some flames in Cata. Just doesn't seem as nasty as taking on undead plagues that want to eat lots of brains.

Thats what I am saying. the fanboys gonna be raging when they find out their beloved SW:ToR is just yet another world of warcraft clone with the only single unique thing is the voice acted class storylines. Other than said class storylines, its the same boring wow-like combat and same boring wow-like linear quest grind to max level, which then turns into boring carrot-on-a-stick raiding with 0 use for raid gear making it pointless to bother with.  (Least this is how i expect it to end up)  I was hoping it'd be like Aion/DaoC where you raid for gear, then go pvp with it for faction wide bonuses. In a 2 faction game with SW IP there better be some massive faction vs faction pvp endgame or else the game just fails even harder than wow. Mind you some morons will try to catch the carrot hell look at WoW what 7 million idiots trying to catch said carrot?

Anyway, i can't wait for this to release, its going to sell a ton of boxes due to fanboys, But I bet after the 1st say or 2, to a month people will relize its just another boring wow clone and end up quitting by the 2nd/3rd month. I'm sorry bioware but mmorpg's need more than the same generic combat system and same generic linear quest grind of old mmo's. People want new combat like real time and such. Not combat where u sit there spamming buttons, and in pvp least in WoW whoever circle straifes and slams buttons the fastest usually wins, which is not what I call pvp myself. Personally if your moving u shouldn't be able to hit anything, and you should have a huge evasion buff.

I myself will probally pre-book the game for 5 bucks at my local gamestop just to get a early access code, course I'll most likely end up canceling the pre-book after I try it and find out how shitty the game really is. However if by some miracle I like it, i'll buy it. Like my sig says I'm a pessamistic thinker, I think the games gonna fail (by fail I mean it ends up being just another world of warcraft clone cuz to me thats major fail by bioware), so when it does fail I knew I was right, and if it doesn't fail and is actually fun to play i'll be pleasently surprized about it.

Alot of people gonna buy this game onb lind faith to SW and Bioware and these said people will be the ones who will backlash out when the game doesn't live up to any of the hype. Lets face it, all hyped up games always fall FAR short of expectations, and SW: ToR will be no exception and will most likely end up a dissapointment just like rift turned out to be.

Though you don't need wow's sub numbers to be successful I am sure SW: ToR will have more than enough people for Bioware to turn a profit, most mmo's do. Rift is doing fairly well considering its just WoW in a new skin. Anyway, we'll see, and I am sure i'll be right on SW: ToR being a major letdown, everyone who isin't blind see's this happening.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Typically I'd agree, game vs game isn't really a way to judge these things. However the question of what will dethrone WOW or mirror it's success, is an interesting one. I don't look at it as a case of killing WOW, more so a case of having such success, as well as appeal. Few games carry the appeal that WOW has, from such vast demographics.

Who knows if TOR will or any game, it would be interesting to see it happen though. The question really boils down to does it take a game with similar features, a well known IP/ Studio as well as a successful Publisher (money). OR: Does it take something vastly different, coming from a studio with a less well known background and a successful yet less well known first attempt (GW2). To generate such a craze? The way I look at it is, if TOR and GW2 can't be close to as popular nothing really can.

In both cases there are pre-existing fans, Blizzard had this.. In both cases they are well respected Studios, Blizzard had this.. In both cases funding doesn't sound to be an issue.. Blizzard had this. In TOR's case they even have a wildly known IP, Blizzard had this..

Another thing is polish, according to most accounts, both had very highly polished game-play even in their Alpha stages. In the end it comes down to how many are going to be willing to take their first plunge into MMOdom. IN 2003-4 It was still a new concept to most, that really isn't the case any more. In 2003-4, MMO players were also still new to the genre for the most part as well, with only 1-2 games under their belt. A lot of them are loking for something new at this point.

only the freakin americans shit on theyr pants for that game. Europe, Asia dont care the slightest.

    Amerika=Fanboys nr.1 of Star Wars

As european, for me, the game doesnt interest me even 1%, and ive been playing mmorpgs for 10 years.

Beating WoW with 12 Million players is like saying: i can make a perpetum mobile.

<no, i dont play wow, or played longer than 1 week.
