They can't even figure out a release date. I don't think Blizzard has to worry..

Like someone said I dont care about Unique or innovative tbh, I just care if its fun and it fits my playstyle, with this one as with recent and most MMO releases for anyone that has been in the MMO release game for a while, I am not pre-ordering it and just going to wait for feedback and a chance to play it before I buy it its that simple.

I dont really care about this whole loop ppl go on "wow killer, not wow killer" but rather just want to know if "I like it, and want to play it" or not its that simple, if the game is good it will be good 1month after release if its shit I wont even bother and move on.

No game will take down WoW, the only thing that can destroy it, or pull the plug is Blizzard. Ye, the playerbase may decrease eventually, but I got no belief that any game can rival what WoW has and still are doing. WoW introduces a shitload of people to the mmo genre, and that's a good thing, I fully believe that it's time for something new, but alot of people have invested so much time and sacrificed alot of other things to run around in Azeroth, I'm sure there will be shed quite a few tears when it eventually dies.

WoW will be the king of mmo's for decades to come, no other mmo will surpass their max subscriptions record for a long time.

Ye people get bored of their mmo at some point, but SW TOR will not even come close, create hype and say all you want.
There are only so many mmo players and wow introduced mmo to the casual player base, to surpas them on their own ground will not be a hard job, and Bioware aint the company to do that i think.

Even Blizzards new mmo Titan will not come even close to the Subs they had at one point in time.

12 million subs they had people, 12 million lol.
GW2 doesnt count as its FtP.
But GW2 will be the best selling mmo i think :)

This here is something I think will indeed rival WoW. TOR will introduce a lot of new people to the MMO genre. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing will depend on just what type of community it turns out to be.

I do believe that Bioware fans for the most part are a mature bunch. They love the stories and get into modding the games and whatnot. Star Wars fans are another story altogether, it's much too broad of a community and while many are indeed mature, many are not. I guess we'll have to see how it all meshes together to find out what kind of community it will ultimately be.

It will be a large community of course and there will always be a lot of immaturity in such large communities. But hopefully a more mature core community will develop.

As european, for me, the game doesnt interest me even 1%, and ive been playing mmorpgs for 10 years.

Beating WoW with 12 Million players is like saying: i can make a perpetum mobile.

For some reason i do not think this is true and more connected to an overnationalistic imagination on the present state of things.

The movies are well known (after 6 movies) but this game here is not, nore it will attract masses here. (europe)

Maybe there are found around 80k players in the first few months, but it will decrease to 10-15k.

The game doesnt have any good reputation anyway. Read the comments and u can tell by far that fanboys are buying it. Guys like me whos not grown with that genre or have any affinity (even though i like all movies) will not buy it. And thats the majority of the mmo-gamers.

They need to brainwash the mass with alot of advertising. But even then i wouldnt buy it.

I can agree MMO vets are not going to be getting this,  or getting it just to kill sometime.  But any claims this is regional based and Americans are a bunch of brainwashed consumers while europeans are some enlightened gamers is just flag waving bullshit plain and simple.

You dont need to do mass advertising in the birthplace of Star Wars. Its already popular there,  but in Europe, its not.

    >.> Americans are not brainwashed fools, but they are grown with since fiction. All novels, comics with since fiction came from America. Europe doesnt have that. Thats why they need alot of advertising to attract that many as in the U.S.

I played wow in the first open beta, but i just couldnt like it. Even then after the many private servers, i just couldnt like it. Not my taste. Maybe because theyre forcing it to much to like it. <Some ppl cant be manipulated i guess.

Actually the first science fiction came from Europe. Have you never heard of Jules Vernes and H. G. Wells? Even they weren't the first but they're perhaps the most well known. It's just more popular in modern America than perhaps anywhere else, but I'm still pretty sure it's pretty popular in modern Europe too. Afterall you still have shows like Doctor Who. I don't know how popular Star Wars specifically is over there, but I'd say science fiction in general is pretty popular.

  • makiimakii Member Posts: 280

Alright. Still, with the hype that the space shuttle brought and  niels Armstrong on the moon, it had a perfect starting ground for since fiction. Europes history is covered with the french revolutions and the world wars. No place for since fiction really.

My first mmo that i bought was Guild Wars 1, i will maybe buy 2nd.  Im just a casual player. And many are like me.

Im not against Star wars, just saying that its probably more for fan boys, than anything ells. And the biggest fan boys are there where since fiction had a big role, America.

Not going to be hard to crush the gaming mogul, there game is stale, its over 6 years old the engine is spent, hence there top secret project "Titan".  SWTOR is going to be a great game to play for the next 3-4 years...then we will all be back here in the same boat waiting on blizz'a next mmo...

Unfortunately, I think its going to REPLACE IT.....
Go look at the General Discussion over at the SWTOR forums and you can see the demeanor of the posters is worse than any other MMO...look at the number of "leet dudez" who have signatures with a large gold key and the words "CE VIP".

That says it all....I cannot even stand to go to that forum anymore...and I am a moron who pre-order the CE....A big stupid moron....

Anytime something this big comes around you're going to have that sort of community. The more people there are the worse the communities are, that's just a fact of life. That said you can choose who you play with in any MMO. I've played WoW but I played with friends and the larger community had little impact on me. Turn off all global chats and turn them on only when you need them and there's really no problem.

Why is it that every SINGLE time a new MMO comes out someone is saying WoW killer?  It's like the rabid wow haters want it to go down so badly all they can do is sit in a dark room typing on a computer while rocking back and forth and mumbling, "This is it.  This is finally the WoW killer."

So far nothing has even come close.  The biggest success seems to be Rift and all that did was take a tiny little chunk of the subs off the top, which from what I am hearing a lot went back after a month or two.

My prediction is that SWToR will NOT be a WoW killer because no game is going to come out and just kill WoW.  What it WILL do, however, is take a much bigger chunk out of the subs than any other game that has come along.  It will probably be enough to actually make a difference this time.

What will Blizz do?  They will scour SWToR looking for good ideas to steal and will add them back to WoW ASAP.  They will probably also begin a media blitz to try to get our attention.

This game will not kill WoW, but if the launch is good and the talk on the forums is positive, it may be the first game to actually force WoW to share the spotlight.

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC

Star Wars (sci-fi) and WoW (fantasy) are two different genres. They will co-exist just fine.

I agree...its so sad how back when EQ first came out in 1999 how we were so happy to be able to socialize and play with 1000's of other players....
NOW....the first thing we do upon playing an MMORPG is turn off "Global Chat" and only group with friends, family, or guildmates.

    AVOID THE PUG....

Honestly I don't think this will have any bearing on wow.  The reason I say this is how many wow players do you hear play games like eve, swg, fallen earth that kind of thing.  It is a totally different type of gaming, and I don't think those playing wow would come over.  Honestly I hope they don't they can keep that cesspool for all I care.

I think games like rift will suffer, and those already near deaths door.

Nope it won't, as it didn't really bring any thing new to the table, and 1 of the let down for me is its.animation.
After wow, except Korean mmo, no other mmo have that smooth combat animations
Will it lowers wow sub? Definitely, but dethrone? Nope

yes, because wow did bring new things to the table when it launched? i will not be surprised to see tor have more subs than wow briefly after it launches.

star wars fans + bioware fans + mmo/wow fans looking for something new = potential to have more subs than wow does.

tor is more like wow than the sandbox games you mentioned. i understand you dont like the community from wow (i dont either) but tor's community will be very similar no matter what.

    especially on the pvp servers.

but they are worried, which is why they are holding diablo 3 (a finished game) so they can release it at the same time tor does.

the very reason they still don't have a release date is to combat blizzard doing that.

starwars fan boies make me lol in rl ...thinking this game is some sort of gift from god and the best thing sence sliced bread

will swtor take wow down? umm no..it wont..imo no 1 game will bring down that money grubbing gaint. it will take a collective effort to bring down blizzards wow ..slowly but surely it will dwindle down but kill it?! ..hell no

and just when they think they <blizzard> may be falling short of subs / money..they will pull an okie doke and make wow f2p with cash shops and explode all over again >imo<

and no im no wow fan boie either atm im not even playing an mmo cuz the whole genra sucks and has been for about 10yrs now..my freinds keep telling me "oh wait gw2 is comeing out! " and i could really care less i expect more of the same because >imo< that company is just cashing in on the "theampark" mmo genra asap so that can make a boat load of cash...the devs could care less about what people want in an older style mmo..all they are worried about now is pumping out some mmo that can draw in big $$ over a few years for their company and then back to work on the next copy paste game of the new year..well theres my flame now flame on!
