Vanguard risen from the dead

TorgrimTorgrim Member CommonPosts: 2,088

Yes that's right Vanguard getting more and more players by the week, I really don't know  where all these are comming from but after 3 years, Vanguard world feels healthy once again, people are grouping up, people are shouting for dungeon runs.

And the best part is SOE sees this, they are planning for 2 more updates this year and bug fixing updates.

I see you in Telon

I think it is because SOE said that they actually are working on a new patch, that was a few weeks ago but it did give some people hope.

I do know some people that quit because they were sure SOE was bleeding the game without patches until they would close it down, some of them are talking about returning now.

For me, I think I will wait and see, I don't trust Smed and actually want the first patch released before considering anything.

Starting patches again gives people hope, and I guess they could move a few devs from SWG now.

Wise move.  It might pick up some of the SWG people.

I'm suspicious.  I don't trust SOE for crap these days.  I wish I could, because I actually like their games.  It just amazes me that VG gets no attention while EQ gets its 1 crappy xpac and an anniversary dungeon per year, along with regular patching and fixes.  Just think if thought outside the box and found a way to migrate the EQ hardcore into VG...

Id actually like to join this game myself, I am extremly bored these days so id think its atleast worth a 14 day trial... now I have a problem, the launcher cannot detect that I have installed Adobe flash player. Id ask on the forums but I cant seeing as though you need to play Vanguard to post on there. I have posted on the tech forum specifically for launcher issues but there doesnt seem to be anyone around to answer. Anyone able to give me a hint?

Honestly... Right this moment, as I type this.. I am tempted to re-up my account and start playing again.

    I love Vanguard.

    However... I don't trust SOE/Smedley.

Anything they do, they do because they see $$$$$ at the end of it. They don't things "for the players", they do it for their own wallets. They'll screw over their loyal players in a heartbeat if they think it'll make them more money.

That's not me "bashing on SOE". It's me stating a fact of history with that company. They've set that precedent.

So, in my mind.. I see them basically giving the game more attention, getting people interested and seeing how it pans out. Then, when they get enough people that it might actually stand on its own as a full sub-based MMO, they announce that VG is going F2P with a cash shop.

This sudden "interest in VG" they're displaying, after treating it like a red-headed stepchild for so long - seems a bit too conveniently timed with the announcement of SWG going offline.

They've got something up their sleeves. Smed's got $$$$ in his eyes with VG, and that's all they're looking at. Guaranteed.

That's the only thing keeping me from re-subbing. I don't want to invest my time into a game, just to have the rug pulled out and have it placed in a cash shop.

That said... I'd sincerely love to be proven wrong.

"If you just step away for a sec you will clearly see all the pot holes in the road,
and the cash shop selling asphalt..."

Well I allready hate them... I couldnt run the launcher because I am not using IE as a standard broser and thus had not installed flash for IE. What retardation... They do know that IE is terrible and noone uses it unless they are forced or dont know that there are better alternative? -.-

Have to say i hate SOE ,but saying that ,VG is a really special game and i love it.There are too many  easy mmo's out there and this to me is the only one that offers a real challenge. If SOE deliver content like they say they are going to i will come back, but not until new content..these days i dont think anyone trusts SOE.

The way I see it SOE is a business.  The goal of a business is to make money, and once the business starts costing more to run than it brings in,  the business closes.  So SOE's goal should be to make money as well as all other game companies.  So complaining that SOE only does stuff be because they see $$$$$$$$$ as a result is retarded The game is thier own, not the players, to do with as they see fit.

I myself, love Vanguard, and will probably return in another month or so.  My only hope with this surge in poulation is that they either open a PVP server or patch some PVP in to the game.

According to what Ihve heard from this forum and elsewhere. People arent mad at SOE because "they are trying to make money". Its because their business practices are downright unethical. They have lied to keep people paying for their half finished games, there is probably a ton of articles about this stuff.

Once I get back from vacation I'll probably be firing up my VG account again. That game and Everquest are the only two mmo's that seem to stay on my hard drive.

I'm loving the $19.99 Station Pass.  I'm finding that the only games I still enjoy are EQ and VG.  And I'm also finding that Pirates of the Burning Sea is something quite different and interesting.

  • EnerzealEnerzeal Member Posts: 326

I recently did the trial and after a day grabbed the subscription.

My biggest gripe so far aside from a few bugs I've come across? Classes..

I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO CHOOSE ONE!

I just finished the adventure quest chain on isle of dawn for the 6th or so time. This time on rogue - and hopefully this is one the one, its not that the others are bad, its just there is so much choice.

Anyone considering the trial DO IT, seriously its a fantastic game.

I really liked VG it was the most fun questing leveling I have had since Asheron's Call.  I was having so much fun that I hit 52 before I realized there was absolutely ZERO character customization.  My Druid was exactly like your Druid.  There was no differences other then gear.  No talent trees, no exp to spend, nothing to make my char feel different.

This was my only negative of VG.  The Diplomacy was a blast, Crafting required skill and was a challenge, and questing and named hunting was very fun.

To top it off, the community in VG is probably the best ive ever seen outside of Horizons

Eh.  I was burned too by SWG NDG, and spent the next few years in a WoW trial (PC Gamer freebie), City of Heroes (still playing) and a few months of Dark Age of Camelot (interesting and decent fun at the low levels I never got out of). Come 2008, a local store was getting out of computer gaming and dumping stock at 3/4 off. So I snagged all the CoH time cards in sight, and noticed some cheap SOE games. "What the heck, they'll be good for a month a piece." They haven't screwed me since then (in my opinion at least) so I'm still playing.

I wont play Vanguard until they make a good revamp on the game. I played it for 2 years but it need new combat, ACTION combat, not the same stand still and fight. GW2 will make an ideal for many mmorpgs to come, so SoE better hurry up and make some changes. Also the quests are boring, i've had many alts, too many and many solo quests were kill 10 of these blahblahblah. Though the group quests were very fun and the dungeons and the endgame!

New combat, new quest system and new graphics, would only improve the game, not hurt it.

I wish I could find someone selling station cards for cheap.  I'd love to play some of my favorite oldies for cheap.

All companies are in business to make money, but there are so many different ways to go about.   When it gets to the point that the bulk of players are echoing the same concerns then there is a problem with the way that business is being conducted.

The highlighted sentence above really illustrates what is going wrong.  Sure SOE is free to make any changes they want to their games, because as you said they are their games to do with as they please.

Players are just as free to react to that type of business management and to be honest the results speak for themselves.
