Bioware said that the game was to reflect the movies. There are no gays in any of the movies. I know people like to stretch and say Juhani was gay from KOTOR 1, because of same dialogue that was uniform regardless of the sex of your character but that is all debatable in my opinion; especially seeing as there was no actual relationship option. Secondarily, yes I know about the two Mandolorian characters, but that's really it, and that's a very very small portion of the Star Wars universe. It's nowhere near as prevalent as Bioware or the loud minority is making it out to be.

Using the "lore" to support your rampant homophobia is weak.  Just because they don't mention homosexuals in the stories, doesn't mean there were none in the universe.  If the ancient Greeks practiced same-sex relationships, why would it not happen in a technologically advanced society? Really, people, admit your own insecurities as such.  That can be respected a bit more than hiding behind the lore to give weight to them.

you cant use real life of the greeks to compare to an intelectual property. the only way to know if there were homosexuals in teh star wars universe is to ask George Lucas. Other then that, there are no legs to stand on.

Here. Let me define a word for you that all the sanctimonious drama queens in this thread clearly have no concept of:

    op·tion·al

       [op-shuh-nl] image Show IPA

    adjective

    1.

left to one's choice; not required or mandatory: Formal dress is optional.

    2.

    leaving something to choice.

Romance in SWTOR, whether gay or straight, is entirely optional. Players can ignore the [Flirt] options if they want and never even give it a thought. Also, just like in Mass Effect, any romantic interactions happen solely via cutscene that no one else will ever care about or see.

It's all a bunch of pointless drama for no goddamn reason. No one's going to see your toon mack on anyone except you. If you don't want it, don't choose the romance interactions. Simple as that.

    And why is this optional?

You obviously missed the point of my post, read it again.

    That which is optional is:

    un·nec·es·sar·y

[uhn-nes-uh-ser-ee] image Show IPA adjective, noun, plural -sar·ies.

    adjective

    1.

not necessary  or essential; needless; unessential.

    noun

    2.

unnecessaries, things that are not necessary  or essential.

Is building a meaningless relationship with a npc not missing the plot when it comes to an online game?

Are people that deprived from the ability to converse and relate to real life counterparts?

    See the bigger picture.

Coyote has written far better articles in the past, and Im sure he will again.

If the writer is the same writer, with the same personality and way of thinking, are you sure that you just didn't find the article a good one because you didn't really agree with the points he was trying to make or how he sees things, in just the same way that people who found the article great are saying it because they agree with his viewpoint?

I don't even care about his points.  NGE whiners *are* irritating.  His points are mostly irrelevant and drowned by the cheering fans who post those same things over and over and over again.

What's the point of sarcasm, cynicism, and wit when you're jumping on the bandwagon leading the town parade?  He's supposed to play the role of "insightful sardonic writer" (at least his introductory article laid that out).  So instead of taking a golden opportunity to say something biting and witty he chose to suck up to fans and score points with a few popular posters.  Bleh.

Usually the point of sarcasm or cynicism is to write about stuff that a writer thinks deserves his sarcasm or cynicism, regardless whether that's pro or against fans or haters/bashers. I mean, when he'd have been biting against fans I'm sure he'd have been accused of 'sucking up to haters' or sandbox/SWG fanbois or fanbois of other games and being on the bandwagon of haters/bashers/SWG fanbois/sandbox lovers/burnt out MMO vets/fanbois of other games, a bandwagon that's even larger with all those kinds of anti-TOR MMO gamers around on this site. Point being, that in the eyes of the party that doesn't agree with his viewpoint, an article writer is always wrong image

That said, he made some good points even if I don't agree with everything he wrote.

Oh yes of course he can. All fiction is based and inspired in whole or in part upon Reality and its History, even Elves were based on old Norse and Greek civilisations. And the stories most Fiction expresses are the same Stories retold under a new hue, basically Good vs Evil stories.

As such, whether the producers and creators of Star Wars have not been explicit about Sexuality in their Movies, this does not mean that the same rules that make homosexuality a natural aspect of the human condition here does not also exist in that Galaxy Far Far Away.

And just because you may have never seen the Eiffel Tower in Paris it does not mean that it is not there or does not exist either, yet this is your behavior with your line of reasoning based on the Lore.

Ultimatelly, the truth is that whether homosesuality exists or not in the Lore is actually irrelevant, because it exists here on earth and it is earthlings that will be playing this game not Jawas and Wookies. And if the game wants to have everyone as a potential customer they better reflect the Reality of those Customers in the Fiction Universe they are creating as well.

It is also a business, all this talk about it and Topics and threads is part of its marketing word of Mouth or otherwise too.

Well, Coyote, you added another thread for the sexual agenda warfare to continue in.

I don't think either side got the joke.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

    And another thing to one of the writers on the thread: Juhani was gay. ''I know people like to stretch and say Juhani was gay, because of same dialogue that was uniform regardless of the sex of your character but that is all debatable in my opinion ect ect.'' Is in other words very far from being correct. It is not debatable because she was{mod edit}

     Goran Beviin, Nuff Said.

Without getting into the discussion of what I believe and why I will just say this. I think everyone has a right to be respresented and everyone has a right to their own beliefs. In the case of SWTOR, representing one side of the sexuality coin and not the other is not right or fair to the whole of the community.

To reiterate what a previous poster said, it is a natural part of the human condition. For one reason or another. And it does not mean that people (albeit it fictional people) in that galaxy far far away can't be of the same "human condition" as the rest of us.

So the biased review is trying to be the greater good voice while whinning about the biased; that's awesome. Mmorpg.com's quality sure has gone down over the years.

I never get enough of your commentary/articles, Coyote.  You are the shining beacon of hope strobing in a dance club of people (read: "freaks") dressed as furries, while Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax is playing.  Keep it up.

    Two things.

1: Coyote, you are a funny jackass.

2: While I am not a starwars fanboy and don't happen to own a plastic sword.. I would gladly go get one and beat you to death with it if it might mean I could play pre-cu swg again. The game was just that fun.

  • RammurRammur Member Posts: 575

Yeah story driven game if your not a bioware fan or played any of biowares games stay away and if your still complaining because your gonna be forced into the story stay away they been hypen the game for a good 4-5 years now we who have been waiting know what to expect. I love the fact it storydriven because then maybe it will keep the lame clowns and griefers at bay. All i can say is its gonna be one hell of a MMO its gonna be tons of hours worth of starwar cinimatics and storys that will keep us fans busy and if you dont like mmos like this chances are you will get hooked and then actually like it.

  • VjunVjun Member Posts: 1

Umm ok we get it, you dont like star wars fans. I suggest you move along and talk about something you do like.

Actually if you look at the article it's going after the people who are making these baseless accusations on the game..oh it's from origins the game will be crap (um okay, thats like saying it's from gamestop that must mean the game will suck)

It has X extra feature in the game, that mean it will be crap (um okay, you know thats completely optional thing that you have to start yourself right?)

This game isn't like SWG therefore it will fail

It's these kinds of accusations that makes the topic creator go uh okay, your comment while i understand your dislike of said feature in and of itself doesn't immediately mean the game will suck.

Hes actually defending the game and saying hey, let the game come out and show it's true colors before we say it will fail or not.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

How much further down the drain will the Themepark Design bring MMORPGs? It remains to be seen, it never seazes to appal me however.

Couldn't have said it better. There are real people running around but the enphasis will be to interact with a fake person. MMOs are getting dumber everyday.

Awesome article! I loved the poking fun at all the mindnumbingly short-sighted people out there. Including myself *blushes* Still mad at LA v.v

To all the sexually insecure little boys who feel their masculinity automagically shrivelling up in the face of love between same gender people: Poor you. I hope your e-peens as well as your actual penises will survive the horror of the (modern) world. Mordern in parenthesis, as this is a concept that has been around since we were apes. Same gender attraction exists in most of the biological world - it has been around since the dawn of time - and the unnaturalness is the blind unforgiving hatred and discrimination against same-gender love that quite a few people spew.

"Not all games are meant to suit you. If you don't want to deal with all of the dialogue and storytelling in a game designed for dialogue and storytelling, don't play it, you f**king moron."

This is the single biggest problem with these idiots to this day in MMO's. The majority of MMO players thinks that just because an mmo is released, that it should cater to their every whim. They act like they are forced to play every mmo. The simple option is dont play it. The people who think every game has to catter to them is like, you said  a "f**king moron." and the mmo genre is plauged with f**king morons.

Great article even though i have exercised my option to not play SWTOR, but not because of story :)

Lol peeps want same sex stuff cuz like 50% of dudes actually play chicks ! And they dun wanna hit other dudes either, but jump down in the lesbo world. It's not bout gay or not gay, i think it's even the opposite (they don't play girls just to impersonate one, but to stare at a female ass for 60000 hours instead of staring at a guy's hairy crack).

Man, this is going to be epic, just for that, that game's worth it lol.
