I love the other thread asking if they are lying about limiting sales.
I can't wait to hear all the wailing and screaming from people who can't get a copy or have to wait on a waiting list.
Got my DDE day1 and registered within 12 hours of sales opening. (I had to wait til after work.)
Now , I think I'm going to go find a nice new adult guild to play with. (I usually join a new guild in a new game.)

Amazon told me that if i pre-ordered there i wouldn't get it until 2012 April.

You will get it at or around the release 12/20/11, if not before. That release you mentioned was a speculative release date. Not everyone has updated the site for the official date since the announcement was on the weekend.
Strange, because I DID pre-order from them and they told me in an e-mail yeaterday that I would be getting the game on 20 December 2011.

Nice scare tactics man. if there is no copies left that EA's loss not mine, im sure i can spend my money on one of a number of games coming out around christmas.
yea congrats to SWTOR, but on side note dead island has been #1 on steam sales for almost a month consecutive minus a few hours here and there with magika and one other game.
What scare tactics? Bioware/EA have stated they are going to limit opening day access and I BELIEVE them.
This game is already breaking sales records. Lots and lots of people haven't even heard of it yet.
Do you know how many people wait til the last minute to buy things? Ever been at a mall Christmas Eve?

This "scare tactics" line of thinking on a GAME is pretty strange. Now, if it were bread lines forced because of a broken communist dictatorship like in Russia several decades ago.....maybe they might have something. But for a game?

I didnt read limiting opening day, but limiting early access. So the first day of early access you may or may not get in. Early access is based on how soon you preordered. The sooner you preordered, the better of a chance you get in on the first day of early access

Scare tactics as in, "you better buy now or you wont be playing come release".. It's a marketing stunt to get people to pre-order..there will be enough copies for everyone and we will all be in queues come release day..expect no different!

According to Electronic Arts and BioWare representatives gathered at the Gamescom event in Germany, they will intentionally limit the amount games sold for their new anticipated MMORPG, Star Wars The Old Republic. The limit will be set on both digital and retail purchases. The goal is to ensure their server can run “smoothly”, a common Achilles’ heel of all MMORPGs. EA’s motive is not purely conduced by optimal server speed, however. The motive is to make it seem urgent to preorder the game; a clever “buy-now” bully tactic, or walk the plank of waiting to play on crappy servers later.
Can gamers expect smooth running servers when this game goes live later, or are they making promises on blank checks? Sure, give a great first impression to all the members trying out the beta, as to seduce newer users expecting similar gameplay upon release. With insufficient resources currently, the developers will wait and crunch the numbers. The games server expansion will be determined solely on the initial revenue of beta users. Although there is no official release date for this game, EA representatives are expecting the beta to launch in a couple months, and thus the rumor of the game going live to everyone later this year.

We know what the montly subscription is going to be, and what the box price is for Preorder. Maybe they will put the retail price up higher than the preorder price......

There will always be the digital purchases. Those are never limited.
True true, but units produce certainly will. That why i don't buy the whole limited copies available.
No. The collector's edition will still be sold after the game goes live so selling it on eBay would in fact cause you to LOOSE money. The only way the prices would skyrocket there was if they stopped selling the CE and there has been no inclinatios of that wither in this game or any other game that offered a CE.

If there are heavy queues and chaos at launch... don't you wish that they'd limit the number of copies at launch, as they said they would do and which you continue to disbelieve?
Unless they want to prevent heavily overcrowded servers, massive queues and server crashes at launch, a problem that some other popular MMORPG's experienced during their launch weeks, like WoW and Aion.

heh. well if by chance they do, I preordered mine back in July so I am safe. I will be very surprised if they stop the basic digital preorders, only because its EA as a publisher. Unfortunately EA over the years has become very greedy.
