A World of Jedis Online

Greetings

Am I the only one who fears there will be an insane amount of Jedi/Sith populating all servers? I will be playing a bounty hunter or some other non-Jedi class because it seems to me almost everybody will roll a Jedi. So far, on all "reviews" I've read people talked about their lightsaber and stuff, and we cannot forget that this game is a successor to KNIGHTS of the Old Republic, so most followers of the franchise will be desiring to play a Jedi. The thing is that Jedi/Sith are supposed to be a strict minority, armies of Jedi won't make for a very immersive gameplay experience.

It fits the lore of the time period. There were lots of Jedi. This is t set during the original trilogy.

Ah im pretty sure that force using toons will die down after a bit.... After all i've had more fun playing non force users and so have many people i know.

I really just think its part of that star wars hype that... "hey I gotta be a jedi "and it will die down after the first 5 or 6 months of  the game comming out and you will find everything will be a little more balanced class wise as how many of each class there is.

Meh, maybe. I find them boring to be honest. Give me a bounty hunter, trooper, or an imperial agent over a pansy ass Jedi any day.

Anyway, they may be a majority of the population but I certainly won't be one of them.

Nah, even though you'll see lightsaber wielding people pretty much everywhere, class balance between force and non-force users will be pretty ok, looking at most polls. Agents, Bounty Hunters, Smugglers and Troopers do have a big attraction for many people.

except, you know, the fact that armies of jedi and sith existed in this time period, so if thats immersion breaking for you get out, since its not the universe for you clearly.

I think the troopers and the smugglers will be overplayed.

To be honest, I'm not that familiar with the Old Republic universe, I played both KOTORs and it didn't feel like there were so many Jedi but I guess I was wrong.

You need to read up on the era this game is based on. There were numerous force wielders. Hell just check the video link stickied of the galactic timeline.

Considering they are marketing the game with trailers like this, Its no wonder there will be a big "Jedi presence" among gamers.

Given the classes they put in the game the only one there should be "armies" of is Trooper.

Really if you think about it Bounty Hunters would almost always work alone or in very small teams.  Same goes for Smugglers.  Agents almost certainly would work alone most of the time.

So you got Jedi/Sith who should be small teams of them at best.

You are left with Trooper, there is nothing wrong with seeing 1000s of them together, lol.

Sidenote I plan to play Bounty Hunter and Trooper :)

Hmm, apparently, armies of Jedi are supposed to exist, maybe I'll roll a Jedi myself after all.

Except even the Trooper is not intented as your rank and file soldier, but more of a commando or heavy weapon specialist, of which there are way less than soldiers.

So we come to conclusions that ALL classes are the "Elite" of this universe, all of them are present in numerous quantities, but they are much much less than the "commoners".

    Problem solved, yes? :)

What IS true is that I expect the player population to outnumber the NPCs. so.... teoretically you are in the minority... but in the game you will prolly see more Jedis than bakers.

Speaking in terms of the narrative, there is only one playable Jedi Knight.  One playable Consular, one Warrior, one Inquisitor.  So there won't be "armies" of Jedi/Sith within the story.  Outside the story, I fail to see how multiple people playing the same character is any more harmful to immersion than thousands of people having exactly the same story, doing exactly the same quests, coming back to life when they die, having enemies respawn, etc. etc.  A certain amount of broken immersion is the necessary result of the mechanics of any themepark MMO.

I'm only worried about the number of bounty hunters that think they are cooler than anyone because they choosed a non-magic character.

Attach bomb to enemy, kick in nuts. Blowing up a man's testicles is all I need to be happy in a game. Jedi can suck it.

Up until Darth Vader and his time as well as alittle while before that jed as well as sith were vary common compared when Vader went onn his crusade to kill off the remaning jedi after becoming a sith/dark Jedi. Also during the kotr series there were many jedi that made up the jedi order, since why have such a wide and reaching set up if you are extremely small portion of the universal population. The jedi became a minority after Vader's crusade of seeking as well as killing many of remaining jedi masters that had evaded the coup at the end of the clone war (Third movie), also what makes you a jedi is more of your training then anythig else same with the sith.

Also during the eras bthat came before the top you had the jedi split when the jedi that wished to delve int the darker sde of the force gained their title as the dark jedi, you have the jedi-sith wars, the great jedi civil wars, the jedi purge, and several more. THen you lok at how many sith empires there were as well, wiith the dark jedi that were exiled from the world they had started on to aa new one where they meet the sith races later they both became the sith order.

I would look up alot fo the info on a star war wiki site over the games, also after the last movie in the books Luke falls to the dark side and also recreates the Jedi order. You also have the fell Jedi who are neather dark jedi. sth or jedi since they merely see the force as a tool nothing more.

BAsically thats it.... we all want to be a Jedi in some way, because Jedi's and Sith are what this world and conflict are about...

If i would have created the game, i would have given even the non Force users some force powers. like latent naturall born force users... BEcause the gameworld is all about the force.

It's star wars it's geeky, nobody comes out of it looking cool no matter what class you pick.

The design of TOR requires you to suspend disbelief and ignore that other players exist.  You're supposed to imagine that - aside from NPCs - you're the only jedi running around.  NPCs constantly reference this fact in dialogue.   And the story doesn't make any sense if there are 5000 of you doing the same thing.

So lore-wise, there isn't a million additional jedi ,there are lots of jedi, but all the player-character jedi count as a single jedi for sake of lore/story.

You may not realize it, but your comment is humorous.

In general terms, people that don't play online or video games, consider those that play any type to be geeky and strange.

I have to laugh everytime I hear that "Well it's that timeframe" excuse. Sure, the Jedi might have numered thousands, maybe even millions but guess what, the rest of the galaxy numbered trillions. I'm also pretty sure they weren't bunched up in the same place either.

The eternal conflict between "I want to be special" and "So does everyone else".

I plan on staying away from force-users for a while, simply because they will (predictably) be overrepresented.

    For the original poster:

    FYI...

A poll was done on this forum some time ago (was unable to locate it) that asked people what class they would level up first.

Two of the three top choices we Trooper and Bounty Hunter when I saw it.

I don't think everyone will be a jedi.

PS  Even if everyone made a jedi, no big deal. Its a GAME, its not real. The main goal of any entertainment venture is to produce something that people will enjoy enough to pay money for, be it NASCAR, NFL Football or a video game.

well my comment was in reference to people saying they are somehow better or cool because they don't roll a jedi..maybe you missed that part.
