People want story, they get story. Fans seem happy with that and apparently so where's the boohoo?
What's so hard to understand about that?
There is nothing wrong with story but the game needs more than story to sell some of us. People pointing out the pros and cons of any MMO is what this site is about. No matter what negative is posted it always comes back to three things. Its Star Wars, its Bioware and it has VO. Gameplay and replayability dont matter, graphics dont matter, the fact that this has all been done before, doesnt matter. VO is the big selling point of this game and ive seen many "hitting the spacebar" posts of late. Likeing a game is one thing, denying any and all flaws is another.
There are plenty of posts on these forums which outline EXACTLY what Swtor is bringing, none of them only include : Bioware, Star Wars, and Vo's.
* Crew Skills - Farily innovative multiple companions doing your gathering, research, and crafting at your direction.
* Companions - Its a highly organized pet system for everyone in the game.
* Moddable Equipment - This is not your "insert gem slot" system, its a wonderful approach to appearance editing and designing gear for a characters needs.
* Huttball -- You either love it or hate it
* Holocrons - Regardless of how simple it will be once spoilers are released, they offer permanent stat upgrades
* Light and Dark side system - Alters gear choice, quests , Appearance, and rewards.
* No Auto-Attack - Again , you either love it or hate it
* 15 Flashpoints at launch - 15 Dungeons to run at a games launch is no paltry sum
* An objective based pvp planet - How long have pvpers requested this direction for themeparks, here we have it regardless of its current implementation.

There are more, its all a matter of actually looking for the gems in the game, rather than finding the flaws.
Some obvious flaws : Ui customization , Some weak story lines, starter planets are not indicative of the remainder of the game, textures can be lackluster.

The problem is his over-inflated sense of worth that he thinks everyone else should think they are flaws too. Or, he thinks they are 'serious' flaws when in reality they are minor things people don't really care about but you have to come up with SOME negative because no game is perfect so....
"I don't like my lightsaber color".
"I think the area is too big to run across."
"I think Bioware is making a huge mistake by not charging less."
"I don't like the accent of this/that/those guys."
You know, stupid little stuff because the game actually works pretty good overall like WoW.
These forums are getting the same as the World of Warcraft forums -_-
All you see here is hate hate and more hate versus anything that 1 person doesnt like.
Dont Like WoW ? fine
Dont like SWTOR ? also fine !
Dont like GW2 ? more then fine, but dont act as your vieuw of a game are facts.
I see so many people bashing something and act like their voice need to be heared and is the voice of god almighty -_-
This aint discusions anymore but trolls, like them wow forums, you cant post something positive as in a second later you re trolled down by all those internet hero's.
You can always say things like, i dont like the grpahics style of wow / GW2 / SWTOR / Aion / Eve etc etc and discus it.
But what we see is borderline trolling.
For those people there is no hope left, there will never ever be a game good enough as they hate from within.
Game communities are rotten by those people.
Glad we still have guild forums where people can discus things in a normal way.
It's not trolling at all. It's adding in your voice of your support of whatever you support. Otherwise, it may be a reply in which case you are voicing your distain/disgust as to why you don't support such a thing.
If all you see is negativity then all that means there are a lot of people fealing negative on something. You have no right to try and change such things. Those views come from the person and written by said person. You have no piece of the pie in another's views and tastes.
So tired of the entitlement generation. Can't we just have WW3 and get it over with? ;-)

It offers STORY. It offers fully voiced quests. It may not be the most innovative game in the history of the market, but it does offer a few things that other themeparks don't have, and it's improved on quite a few other things. Why can't this be enough? And why does every single game that comes down the pipe have to be a revelation in gaming? It's a silly argument by people looking to criticize a game they don't have any intention of playing.
And again...the whole "single player interactive movie" argument is an argument made by someone who truly doesn't understand what an MMO is. It doesn't make this game an MMO. It ENHANCES a game that is already an MMO by providing story and context to the level grind. In a previous post I listed the myriad ways that this game encourages interaction with others. You chose to brush it aside. That doesn't make it any less true.
Im glad you explained what an MMO really is. Ive been playing games and following story lines for years and actually making choices about how and where to develop my characters without watching endless cut scenes and being forced to follow a certain path in a certain area. Ive also been able to roll alts in different areas and explore gameworlds without being forced to follow a certain path in the same area. The game leaves little variety in what you can do and where you can do it, you can chose to brush that aside but doesnt make it any less true.
I would like to know what are those MMOS. Examples are always good. What other MMOS in themepark genre didn't force you to follow a specific path? whnever personal story comes up your experince is going to contained for story telling purposes.. Now whethre you like or dislike watching cut scenes has nothing to do with main discussion here.
By the way once you get your space ship you ccan pretty much go into any direction and on any planet. Repeition of content is something you can not avoid in any MMORPG only thing is how you can make it fresh and a little new everytime you a roll a new alt. And SWTOR does a pretty good job at it.
How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?
ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6. US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian. Subs will be so low there is no need for more Snoocky-How many servers? The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.
The first quest in Star Wars is to go kill 10 space rats, first quest in Guild Wars 2 is to kill a giant boss that plays out in a dynmic, scripted and cinematic event.
Bad misinformation is bad misinformation. If you'd like, I could link you a video of one of the early quests...err...dynamic events...in GW2. It's a Kill X of Y mission. And it's right there on the right side of the screen where every themepark game keeps its quest tracker. Great innovation, there.
Fact is, you will be doing quests in GW2. You will be doing Kill X of Y quests. It's just presented in a way, like TOR's fully voiced system and utilization of "bonus" objectives, that it doesn't apear you are doing the same normal grind that other themeparks do.
GW2 fans act like the game is so different and innovative, but much of it is the same stuff repackaged in a nicer looking box. Don't believe me? Wait until you play the game. You'll see.
I dont know...You still gonna fight that awesome boss, I dont see that in other MMOs...
Guess you "forgot" that in your "GW2 be so mediocre and fail!" speech
Ummm, you have world bosses to fight on every single planet in SWTOR. So I see no innovation on that point, either. And funny that you got a "GW2 will be mediocre and fail" vibe from my above quote. I guess people see what they want to see.
No matter how blatantly bad a game is, a fanboys vision will always be clouded, and to them it wil still seem awesome.

Just give up guys, wait for gw2 or keep playing WoW, but stop talking about swtor, is an amazing game and it will be huge success, for many many many years, well already is. So if the 5% didnt like the game, is ok, nothing gonna change.
Oh it will be a huge success, just expect a large amount of player churn. As long as you look at it a single player game with some MMO options you won't be dissapointed.
Your comment is enough to show us that you know nothing about the game.
yeah I only played 4 characters past lvl 40. I tremble before your vast knowledge.
BTW find any post I ever made where I said the game is not worth buying or trying. But when tha game is simply Mass Effect II set in a Star Wars universe with a multiplayer option. It is not bad, but it si certainly not what I would call a great step forward in multiplayer gaming either.
Oh it will be a huge success, just expect a large amount of player churn. As long as you look at it a single player game with some MMO options you won't be dissapointed.
Or, even better, you can look at it for what it is: An actual, very solid MMO.
really ? a solid MMO that lacks features that other solid MMOs have had for years maybe
Yeah, really. And I always love when people pull the "single player with MMO options" card. Shows a fundamental lack of understanding of what an MMO is. Anyone that has played this game any significant amount of time can tell you that there are more reasons to group in this game than most other themepark MMOs on the market. 2 operations, 15 flashpoints, 3 different versions of PvP, including open world and FFA, heroic areas in every zone that require grouping, heroic quests as early as level 7 in all starter zones, and a handful of them given out on every single planet, and social points awarded to those that group which you can use to buy a lot of great gear. To me, and many others, that's a hell of a lot more important than a few missing "features," most of which will be added in post launch.
It's massive.
It's multiplayer.
It's online.
MMO.
So was Dark & Light.

Honestly, I don't mind any person coming here and saying "SWTOR sucks!" like that hourglas guy with 28 out of 30 posts saying that. That is his opinion and he's entitled to it. Furthermore, this is a third-party site and not really a fansite or official forums so there should be much more moderator leeway in how they ban or edit posts.
What I disagree with is when games allow people like hourglas who admittedly AREN'T going to buy the game and don't want to play it to get on their OFFICIAL sites and say whatever they want. That's where I think the line should be drawn. Don't like the game? Cool, say whatever you want on Massively, Game-whatever, IGN, f13, MMORPG, etc. Just don't attack people.
Not buying the game? Cool, just don't expect to come on the official forum and say what a piece of garbage you think it is in the same way. Even someone with an actual sub should be able to say on the officials "I don't like this game and I think it stinks" imo but when that sub expires, boot time.

You haven't been following a game with this kind of storyline for years, and you know it. If you don't like cut scenes, that's a reasonable stance to take. Not everyone does. But don't act like you've got the market cornered on what is innovative and what isn't. This hasn't been done before at this level in an MMO. Period. Just because you don't choose to place value on story and quest presentaton like this doesn't mean millions of others won't.
But you keep fighting the good fight, Rusty. Make sure the world truly knows how Bioware has pulled the wool over the eyes of the sheep, even as millions play and enjoy the game. Never lose that feeling of self-importance as you look down on the unwashed masses.
One point I agree is of having a neutral faction or Hutt faction for Bounty Hunter and Smugglers. Making them decide as part of their story which one they will support without completely commiting to either one.

A world boss is a boss that randomly patrols an area of the world. The quest bosses in GW2 are normal quests you see? You will be fighting huge epic battles and they are just normal quests, not some "World Boss" that requires a raid group and max level to fight, nor will the be on the scale as such world bosses like "Hogger" which is the same size as the player and serves no purpose in story or threat to the enviroment.

You are presenting an argument that you've "seen it all before" and anyone playing this is deluding themselves because it's not fun, lol.
That says more about you thinking others should like exactly what you like and your ego in this case. I already said I don't think everyone will like this game. I know you to be a diehard Rift fan who likes grinding currency, joining LFG groups and waiting til you find a tank, hoping you can get enough people to stop an invasion, poor lore/story immersion with quests and looking forward to more raiding.

Tested this game for a weekend. I'm a moderate Star Wars fan.
This game is bland, cookie cutter with Lightsabers. And thats it... the biggest deception ever.
Project manager and dev team didn't even bother... something happened while in development to make the team lose focus on this game.
License agreement with L/A was due at the end of the year. BW had to deliver the game at years end or potentially lose the SW license

There are more, its all a matter of actually looking for the gems in the game, rather than finding the flaws.
Some obvious flaws : Ui customization , Some weak story lines, starter planets are not indicative of the remainder of the game, textures can be lackluster.

"I think the area is too big to run across."
"I think Bioware is making a huge mistake by not charging less."
"I don't like the accent of this/that/those guys."
You know, stupid little stuff because the game actually works pretty good overall like WoW.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Can't we just have WW3 and get it over with? ;-)

Subs will be so low there is no need for more
Snoocky-How many servers?
The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.
Ummm, you have world bosses to fight on every single planet in SWTOR. So I see no innovation on that point, either. And funny that you got a "GW2 will be mediocre and fail" vibe from my above quote. I guess people see what they want to see.
yeah I only played 4 characters past lvl 40.
I miss DAoC
And your point is?

Difference is TOR actually works and isn't a masive scam...

I know ..these epic bosses ... looks fun
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
A world boss is a boss that randomly patrols an area of the world.
Pot to kettle.
Edit. I would add that my sense of worth in my opinion is the only one that matters as to whether I will buy this game or not. Yours has no value what so ever.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.
Tested this game for a weekend. I'm a moderate Star Wars fan.
This game is bland, cookie cutter with Lightsabers. And thats it... the biggest deception ever.
Project manager and dev team didn't even bother... something happened while in development to make the team lose focus on this game.
Matter of taste really. It is silly to prove people wrong when it comes to personal preferences But i like how you come out of nowhere to defend GW2 when nothing more than couple of lines were spoken in reference to GW2.

THe star wars video looks like a bunch of nerds swinging around sparklers fighting a plastic dragon.
And what are those flaws? not saying that there are not any. The major one being UI and character ceration but what else is so huge that it stopping you from enjoying the game? i would really like to know because in the ned it is about opinion. i know many who are fine with UI too doesn't mean i am going to beat it down into their head that they are wrong about it and that they can not enjoy game because i personally dislike the UI. Some people are just not that fussy and can look beyond the flaws to enjoy the game.
What he thinks are flaws, are what he thinks are flaws. Nothing can change that.
The problem is his over-inflated sense of worth that he thinks everyone else should think they are flaws too. Or, he thinks they are 'serious' flaws when in reality they are minor things people don't really care about but you have to come up with SOME negative because no game is perfect so....

Not really. I never said this game is a "10/10" or "Everyone should be liking Star Wars because it's highly innovative" or "If you don't like TOR, you're blind." That would be the pot/kettle.
You were certainly not going to be happy in ToR.
"TO MICHAEL!"
there's some nice irony to the stupid that is this post that the entire background of this website is a giant Swtor advert for me.
granted cookie tracking may vary. but... made me laugh.

Nerds swinging swords, nerds swinging sparklers..anyone feels the irony? when insults is all that is left to make a point you know one has run out of arguments.
