No, that was done when WoW came out. It still doesn't take out the endgame grind which is (in all effect) the only real grind in these types of games.

I'm ready to hit my 4th planet, and it does not feel MMO.

I agree, for some reason I've lost all motivation to do quests at all already.

This is because I am sure you have played many theme park mmos before and are probably burned out of the same ol sh*t... This is exactly why I didnt play it, and I suspect many, many more will be joining me over the next couple of months out of boredom...

To me it felt more like playing Warhammer all over again. Run BG's level up, get pvp points/coins, and stay queued. Hell they even got some quests for you to run BG's and you get rewarded handsomely. Everything you want can be attained through that. Plus having your companion run around and pick up crafting materials for you, you really dont have to leave anywhere. Stay at the spaceport, pick up BG quests and level up right there without killing anything.

Why would you do that and not follow the story line?  No wonder people get bored.

I've never really been apart of a major themepark MMO, with that in mind bear with me. Do people actually play simply to attain gear? I just find that hard to believe, considering what do you do with gear in a game you do not enjoy playing?

I always look back to SWG when I hear things like this and think, all I did was PVP, didn't care about earning anything from it, didn't care about winning, losing etc.. I simply liked playing with my guild and pvping. Of course a part of that is attaining usable gear that kept you competitive, which was fun in it's own right because I was usually doing so with a guildie or two.

Now looking at the system TOR is applying to PVP, I earn my gear by PVPing, if that's why I play and it kept me as well as my guild playing SWG for years (most didn't really do much crafting or anything else besides PVp in my guild), why would TOR not offer us what we're seeking? I have to point out TOR has far more PVP options/content than SWG ever had while we were playing (pre-nge).

Like Headen said above... it is the carrot and the stick, perfected by Blizzard and now being used by SWTOR... Gear is everything to most theme park mmoers... and any of them who say its not, probably never seriously raided... Its THE main reason why you raid, "gotta get my new purple shoulders, so I can change them out in 2 months with the next patch, than have to do it again when the expac hits... over, and over, and over again...

SW:TOR is the most enjoyable game I've ever played, hands down!

EDIT: I believe I had a few drinks when I had posted this; don't take it so serously after all this is a gaming forum :)

Playing: varies every day it seems.

And why have you not followed story lines in other MMOs? What makes SWTORs story any different other then it's IN SPACE? Is it cause you have to be read to like a child to find the story interesting?

So its your first game then lol? Because Skyrim blows it out of the water, if we are discussing "games" as a whole... MMO wise, not even close...

No, it's because there actually IS a story, unlike other MMOs.  Where was the story in WoW?   Where was the story in Rift?  EQ2?  There weren't any.  Lotro is the only other themepark MMO that actually has a story.

If you need someone to explain why TOR's story is actually different than other MMO's, then I honestly don't know what to tell you.

No, it's because there actually IS a story, unlike other MMOs.  Where was the story in WoW?

Each quest in itself was a story... if you bothered to read them that is. Its great that SWTOR has "story", but your story doesnt impact the game around you... you are playing a co-op RPG plain and simple.

If you think there was no story in WoW or Rift then you need to learn to read but I guess you're too lazy to do that.

BS, and you know it.  It had no underlying story.  Period.  It was just a bunch of random quests and quest chains.  That's not a story.

And you obviously don't know what an mmorpg is if you think this game isn't one.

I have to be honest... I am f*cking stunned at how many of these people have drank the "story" koolaid... Its like they just regurgitate the same sh*t that Bioware has fed them for months, only to cover up the glaring issues that SWTOR has. When you can level cap in a week or two, that tells you that it is a END GAME GEAR GRIND...So much for "story" at that point right? Have fun running BGs over and over again for months...

There is very little money in developing super high graphics MMOs. The average player does not have a $2000 computer. Hell, i'll bet many of them dont even have a clue what they do have.

True. But there are better examples of a good MMO with sweet eye candy for power users. But like I said. Its a decent game. I enjoyed the BETAS. I just don't have any desire to pay a sub fee for it. And we still have a few more MMOs coming out right around the corner. I would like to see an MMO that would allow mid to higher end users to really push their settings.  But we still have a ways. At least its not all 8bit anymore. Imagine if we had to MMORPG it up like that.

It's the new MMO smell. They wont notice it's the same old thing till the smell fades away.

Ill answer for him, no- not in the least bit... I beta'd the game for 3 months... my "story" did not impact the actual game world one bit... Think about it, you have 5000 people on a sever, 700 of which will be your exact class... how can they all impact the gaming world in their own way??? It cant happen, thats how...

I've done the story line from beta, just wanted to try out BG's and was stuck there.

Easy killer.. I shall give you a way.. FACTIONS. ( I am not talking about sith-republic )

However, I don't think SWTOR has this ? ( I am curious and want to know is all ).

For example, in vanguard if i gain faction with an area/city/group etc it may mean things with regard to my interaction with said area/city/group etc...

I am guessing the choices in my story don't really affect that ?

pffftttt - ok.  Change story telling in mmo's?  Or make voice acting thought of as required?  Maybe I'll give you those 2 things, but that's it from this game.

I am curious what is so great about the story in SWTOR.  I keep hearing people tell me the story is great, but then I ask them to give me an example of why its great and all I hear is "I had to kill 5 bad guys in a cave"  or  "I killed some creatures outside" or "Delivered a message to a guy"  no matter how many discriptive words you add its just filler.  If your great part in the "story" is to be the errand boy of the universe, then I don't see how it is any different from any other MMO with kill/gather/fedex quests.

Anyone have an example of how great the story is?
