Well, Grand Theft Auto: SA finally screwed themselves over

EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

Many of you know I dont really care for GTA:SA. Other than the massive amounts of the F-bomb, the glorification of gang violence, and other things I just thought the game sorta sucked.

However, Rockstar Games just placed a proverbial bullet into their own heads when releasing this game for the Xbox. We all pretty much know about the easter egg sex scene in the Xbox version and apparently so does ESRB rating board.

Do to the drug use, copius amounts of violence and now the "nothing that has to do with the game" sex scene, the ESRB just revoked the M rating and gave it the A rating

A for adult..

So we had to pull all copies of the game from our shelves....about 1200 dollars worth and shipped it back to the vendor. I received an email from our corp HQ about the change and if we were caught selling the game to a minor (even with a parent) we could be prosecutred and fined 5,000 US dollars for each transaction.

I confirmed this with Gamestop, EB, Babbages, and Wal Mart. They've all pulled the product from their shelves. Soooooooooooo if you are planning to buy it you may need to hit an adult oriented game store or hope your local game store hasn't gotten the news yet.

Somehow I dont feel sorry for Rockstar. They knew they went over the top making this game....now they have to figure out what to do with around 2.3 million copies of this game.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/fun.games/07/20/video.game.sex.ap/index.html

Take-Two also said Wednesday that it expects to suffer financially. It lowered its expectations for its current quarter and fiscal year to set aside funds for returns of the games, and figured that net sales could decrease by more than $50 million during the quarter ending July 31.

Shares of Take-Two rose 12 cents to close at $27.07 on the Nasdaq, but later dropped $3.07, or 11.3 percent, in after-hours activity.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Yeah thats gotta be the stupidest thing they have done. Why the hell would you put a sex scene in a game if you want it to do good. They made a big mistake by putting that in and I hope they lose alot of money for it.

lol I got my copy like 5 days ago I guess im lucky. As far as the sex scene goes, well they pretty much just lost millions because of an easter egg. ::::28::Great going Rockstar

The thing that makes me laugh is that it wasn't the shooting people in the face with a nine, the car wrecks or the drug references that pushed the game into the "adults only" category. It was the sex. ROFL.

I'm kind of thinking perhaps the game should have already been adults only.

Also, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Rockstar will profit massively in the long run due to the huge amount of exposure they're receiving. How do you think the GTA franchise got so big in the first place?

Boohoo AO rating is what it needs!

Over ehre (England) it's 18+ and it never effects anything over here.

Heres to the US of A...

Where Ron Jeremy can be a cult figure to hundreds of thousands of teenage boys bopping to "Its just Pron Mom".

Where a 5 second glimpse of Janet Jackson's flabby booby causes a national heart attack

Where you can buy an Uzi and ammo and go do a drive by all in the same day

Where playing a video game where you can buy an Uzi and ammo and go do a drive by all in the same day is more restricted than actually doing it.

Where XXX rated video production and viewing houses sit in the same neighborhoods as churches full of people who condem them to HELL

Where the preist of that church leaves via the front door of the church and enters the XXX video store through the back.

Heres to there US of A.... where they have strong opinions on everything.... and some folks even have a clue why imageimageimage

BTW..... I love GTA SA and it should have always been rated A (AO in Oz) but the marketing suits have already made the bulk of their cash... and everyone is happy...

    Now back to the game............

Damn man, how many times have you visited my neighborhood?

And this GTA:SA thing is just as stupid if not even more so than janet jackson split second boob flash. I can watch  a guy get shot less than a block from my home, call the cops and have them show up within the next hour or two. But complain about a 2 minute non nude sex scene in a game that has to be recoded to even access and you get countless politicians trying to cram onto the same soap box to condem it like the plague. RS has already made more than enough money for SA and will make even more now due to peoples natural desire to see what the fuss is about. I mean..its not like theres anything else in this country that should be dealt with over a missused code in a video game...right?

The sex scene wasn't in the xbox version. It was a hidden feature in the code wich someone manage to unlock with a hack. The so called hot-coffee mod.
It's a shame I think that a so great game and company has to suffer because of this. The Gta games are some of the coolest ever made.
What I don't understand is how you americans can't stand a single sex scene in a game??? There is nothing offencive in a bad looking low polygon sex scene. It already had a Mature rating and now you made it adult only because of a little sex scene??

Razor, I suggest next time you have a clue before you run your mouth. For someone that makes comments about us citizens have opinions on everything you sure are throwing ALOT of OPINION around at the moment.

If you had actually thought for about 5 seconds before opening your mouth you would have realized I could throw plenty back at you about australia. But I won't stoop to your childish level and throw my opinion in your face even though you seem adamant on doing it to me and everyone else here. You are completely out of line and I feel owe the members of this site an apology.

I may be wrong but I think he was doing it in fun Fadeus. I've seen Razors posts and he seems like a lighthearted, sarcastic type poster. I may be wrong but that's what i think.

And if that's what he really feels, he does indeed have the right to say so. I'm not saying anyone has to agree, but it's his opinion which he is entitled to. I hope I'm not pissing you off Fadeus as I have enjoyed several of your posts thus far. You're one of the last few who still defend against the flamers on the Eq2 boards::::20::

I never said he didn't have the right to post it. This isn't about rights. I said he was out of line and needed a clue. If I had posted an equal comment about Australia I would have gotten ripped apart here because I am an american downing another country. Yet when an australian posts slander at the US its lighthearted humor?

I don't care what tone it was posted in, it was out of line. People have the right to do alot of things, unfortunetly too many forget their civic responsibilities.

I said I thought he was a lighthearted poster and maybe the post was more of a joke. I agree it definitley had a negative tone. I also agree that if you came out and bashed Australia you'd probably catch more backlash. If you did perhaps do that I would say that it's your opinion which you are entitled to. Even if i didn't agree with it. I do feel it's a bit about rights because you're asking him to apologize for his opinions. I know if someone asked me to apologize for how I felt about something it wouldn't sit to well.

I'd like to keep this civil and perhaps agree to disagree here because like i said before I think your a very intelligent poster and I think you contribute alot to this board.

No, I am asking him to apologize for slander and stereotyping. And I am sorry we disagree but my feelings are still the same on it.

I respect your ability to just move on from it, however I feel the need to take issue with this one.

Obviously most people (idiots) think that sex is worse than violence.

Pushed buttons? No you directly insulted them and then dismissed it as nothing because you feel your opinion is more important then anything else.

And I already stated I wouldn't stoop to your level, you can play it off as humor all you want. My statements still stand.

I have to agree with that. GTA should have been yanked long ago for everything else it already promoted. This shouldn't have been the golden reason why, they should have been all inclusive of everything thats wrong with it.

Just to throw my 2 bob in and maybe clear this muddy water up, Being an Aussie myself i can tell you our humour is very sarcastic/ironic and more often then not has a negative tone/feel to it. So in my opinion Razor's post was to be taken as a lighthearted sarcastic view of a certian section of american society as seen from the non american point of view. It was in my opinion just  to be taken as a laugh and not to be taken to heart.

Thats the way i took it as soon as i read it but thats just my opinion.

So don't get into much of a huff about it!

    Cheers boys image

By the way, you 3 Blokes are some of the better posters on these forums and look forward to reading more from all of you!

Hmm well considering I spend about 3 or more hours a day in voice chat with an australian daily for about the last 5 years apparently my friend I game with is completely unique and "un" australian since her humor shows abit more sensibility.

Well considering I regularly manage to offend Australians with my totally unthinking and tastless sense of humour, Im not surprised I can so easily tick of Americans who really do struggle with Australian irreverance at the best of times.

If I offended anyone I apologise... It was all meant only in jest.

---As an insite into the Aussie sense of humour... there is a classic story that puts it very much in perspective...

2 Diggers (Aussie Soldiers) are in the trenches in WW1. They have been mates since school, grew up together, signed up together, they are inseperable and the best of friends most of their lives. After 6 months in the trenches, having saved each others live several times, they are hunkered down with bullets flying. In a lul in the fighting one of them pops his head up above the tench lip to see what going on. A shot rings out and he is hit clean between the eyes, his skull explodes like a ripe watermelon. His mate wipes the blood and brains from his face and uniform and remarks "at least the bastard wont snore again tonight"

    Get the picture ?

Mate is it really that much of an issue for you? Im mean come on just lighten up and let it die.

By the by as im sure it is the same in america men and women have a slightly different sense of humour. I could break it down further and give you a whole thesis on how humour veries from each typr of Aussie. I'll just say that on the whole the true blue MALE aussie humour is ver sarcastic/ ironic and negative.

Anyway mate is not a big deal! just relax, have a few beers and send me the tab. lol

    Cheers Mate image
