Its so amazing when I pop back in here and see all the negative threads for TOR. I don't get why so many continue to hover here for a game you don't like. Its like some sort of obsessive disorder. All I know is the following:
1) If you do a google over the last couple of days on reviews, most of the reviews from outlets are generally positive..though one would never get that from these forums.
2) The server queues indicate someone is enjoying themselves considering they were heavy even before launch and there are quite a number of servers out there.
3) The fact that at just about every website, the forums for SWTOR are going down the page in minutes is a sign that people are interested.
4) The fact that in game, just about EVERYONE I group with is loving it.
5) The fact that my guild has over 300 active people in just the first week is a great sign. The fact that about 99% of them are lovin in is another.
6) Even the staff here at MMORPG is enjoying it..according to the article I read.
7) Yes, its just release and numbers may drop over time, but the opposite may very well happen, that they actually increase.
Someone please pour some water over some of you to wake you up and bring you back to reality. You don't have to like it, but we get it, you didn't like it a day ago, a month ago, a year ago, when it was just a game sperm cell, move on.

So let me get this straight.
You basically want people to stop expressing their opinions on this forum? (Presumably you're not hypocritical enough to say that only positive opinions are to be expressed)
Guess what, bud. "The Masses" love McDonalds, and it's some of the vile "food" on the planet. The Masses also like music by people like Lady Gaga...... do I need to continue? The point is, just because the game is doing well, does not mean it's a great MMO. People on these forums may skew different than the general public, but that to me simply indicates that we know better what makes a game truly good or not.
What's your point anyway? Should no one post negative feedback in hopes of improving the game? Are you saying it is perfect as is? Are you saying that because Lucus and Bioware are raking in the cash, that this automatically means the game is good?
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
Have you ever tried to explain to a cat that you're not supposed to smell a candle flame, it's rather difficult considering they don't speak any known language.
Also how did Keithian not realize that his entire post could be flipped around like one of those dual purpose game tables? And How does he not realize that he is doing the exact same thing that he is against.
You could just cut the fat out of the original post, and is all it would leave is "YOU'RE WRONG BECAUSE YOU DON'T SHARE MY VIEWS!"
I need to go on a trip soon, was wondering if I could borrow your high horse?
And your point? Just because this forumn is filled with pessimists who would rather spend all day crapping on games and the people that enjoy them automatically means the game sucks?
It's called opinion and we all have one. Doesn't mean either is right or wrong.
Now where did I put that Doomsday button...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love. Mmmm, love.
All of the things the OP listed could also have been said of Warhammer Online the first week of release.
Just saying...
I asked you already to leave Lady Gaga out of this!
Are you trying to tell us the SWTOR posts are getting old and stupid without any constructive criticism or actually backed up facts?
Why on earth are you doing the exact same thing then? Rather than trashing a game, you're trying to defend the game. The real question is, who are you trying to defend it FROM and WHY?

The point is that the masses will buy whatever steaming pile is pushed in front of them. I do not use sales numbers to determine product quality, nor should anyone else.

It has been said by industry leaders that the forums don't reflect the general opinion of people actually playing, so why worry?
This site is based on opinion. Some will be positive others negative. Deal with it and don't be too sensitive.
It has to do with sample group.
Ask the people who purchased the game because they thought they would like it, and who are now playing the game because they do like it, and of course they are going to like it. That's like asking only people with green hair if they think green hair looks cool.
Many people here on MMORPG.com are here because the current MMORPG offerings don't meet their needs. In informal polls, many report they aren't even playing an MMORPG at the moment. Expecting them, a very specialized sample group, to be strongly in favor of the single largest mass-appeal themepark to come along in the last five years isn't realistic. If they really loved mass-appeal themeparks, they'd be playing them... not hanging out on forums complaining that the genre is not meeting their needs.
I think the mass-appeal part remains to be seen. I saw some hate threads when Rift came out, but never this much arguing and discussion. Clearly this game fails to deliver for a lot of people, and that being the case here on MMORPG.com tells me that it just may take a bit longer before others catch on that they were sold the most lackluster "mass appeal" game ever made.

And the counter point is that people like you will always jump on the contrarian bandwagon and bitch and moan because most people do like it. Unless SWToR, or WoW for that matter, touched you in your special place, why do you care so much? Isn't it enough to simply not like the game and move on with your life? Why must you and people like you go on and on like some jilted lover. Cut the ties and spread you wings butterfly, learn to love again.
That's because there are FAR FAR FAR more people interested in SWTOR than there ever were in RIFT.
Nah.... played warhammer the first week, played Aion for three months, AoC.... don't want to go there. This is about as smooth of a release as I've been involved in. I wasn't very pleased with the way the handled the pre-release, but I guess they had their reasons. I didn't like starting the game with players at level 50's already. There are still some minor glitches but nothing I've seen that detracts from the game or it's ability to keep you immersed. . There are few gold spammers, but I haven't seen any bots. All in all I'm extremely happy with the way the game turned out. I'm having fun and my kids are having fun.
First of all this is nothing new so not sure why some of you are getting so worked up over it. It happens with every game launch.
Secondly, far as I'm concerned these topics are infinitely more annoying and incredibly pointless than any topic actually relating to the damn game whether it be positive or negative than another topic complaining about the forums themselves.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
To the OP. Thats what makes this forum great. Its not like all the others, and most of the people are old MMO hippies from yesteryear, and know whats what when it comes to online games, and are very passionate over their hobby.
And until someone finally makes Ultima 2 using the still warm shell of the first incarnation of SWG mixed with a hybrid of the mechanics of UO and the fixed polished potential graphics of Vanguard - we never will be happy (and even then we'll find something we could improve).
"When people don't know much about something, they tend to fill in the blanks the way they want them to be filled in. They are almost always disappointed." - Will Wright
There are also some problems with the game
-During the last 2 minutes, they got 14 new posts on their customer support forum (they don't have separate tech support forum)
-Thread about memory leak has more than 70 000 views, thread about fps problems more than 60 000 views, thread about installation problems more than 60 000 views, thread about problems caused by entering product key too early more than 60 000 views, thread about crashing has more than 40 000 views, etc.
All those unhappy people who can't play are going to somewhere to do something else. I'm one of them. My cpu speed exceeds minimum requirements by 50%, I have 100% more ram than required, and my gpu exceeds the speed of minimum requirement by more than 150%, yet my fps drops below 15 immediately when there are more players on area. Hard to be very happy in this situation.
I don't mind negative posts about a game, as long as they are thought out and make valid points. I hate the "reviews" from people that have never even played the game but feel "threatened" by a new MMO taking subs from their favorite game.
I've been around forums long enough to spot those type of people, but a lot of people may take what they say at face value.
I've played a ton of games over the years. I have no desire to verbally beat down any of them or to launch a 24/7 anti-new game campaign. I guess it boils down to how much of a life you have.
That is not what I said. Its about someone's forum history and their patterns...including intent as to why they are posting. Its one thing to have an opinion, its another to have a intent to spread misinformation and hate. Just look at the history of a couple of people already in this short thread and you'll see that.
There Is Always Hope!
I don't know how to make my point any more clear, so I'll try to make it simple for you. Wake up, people are loving the game!
There Is Always Hope!
an intelligent response. I totally agree with what you wrote.
There Is Always Hope!
Pretty much summed up my feelings exactly, OP. On this site you'll get the vocal minority speaking for the masses, because the masses are actually online enjoying the game.
