Personally i think the subs fee is probably too high considering other subs fees and what you can get for free these days, but i love the game and this is coming from a die-hard SWG player. Im not sure about paying the fee yet, i'll wait till that time comes, haven't hit top level yet or played enough pvp to really make that determination at this time, but from what i have experienced so far, it's all good.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
The game is decent as a free to play type game. But it is not an mmo its more of a single player RPG with some chat thrown in. Who is actually willing (Be honest) to pay $15 dollars a month for a game not worth one penny???
This reminded me of the STO model. Seemed like a good idea for F2P or B2P tye co-op/MMO hybrid, but far from true MMO game that requires a monthly fee. But the younger gamers, and I dont know how else to say it, just dont know any better as there hasnt been a great MMO released since EQ1. Its like taking someone to only beaches in New England and they think Cape Cod is the best beach EVAH !! Then they make it to Hawaii one day and realize what its all about.
It is this kinda patronising crap that annoys me.
I like this game and I like themeparks and I like SWTOR. It doesn't mean I don't like nor have ever played sandbox and it doesn't mean that I am some young noob; I am 39 for heaven's sake and have been playing RPGs since I was 10 years old. But this patronising shit from self-titled nostalgia-ridden old-skoolers never ceases on these forums.
The idea that you have this dichotomy between these salty toothed old school thousand-yard-stare old vets who have "seen stuff" and these starry eyed little wombats who drink babycham because they have never tasted real ale is frankly, fucking absurd.
We get it. You want to game like you did back in 1999 but times have changed, people you once knew in those heady days have grown up and moved on and your are just bitter about it; you want that old magic back. You know, sometimes I get nostalgic for the old days, too but I look at my beer gut in the mirror, thank god I made it to 39 and move on without any regrets. Don't transfer your nostalgic angst for the old days onto a blame game for the new; it makes you sound like a right Victor Meldrew.

p.s. And Hawaii is an overhyped, overpriced crap-hole full of methheads (been there once and never again). Much better beaches elsewhere.
Agreed....folks were paying for a broken POS called SWG for a while.
I play TOR virtually every day now, and even if I dont, I will continue to keep my sub active. Until such time that Bioware upsets me with a game(no I actually enjoyed Varrick/Isabella/combat in DA2), I will continue to buy their RPG products. I wont invest in the new Command and Conquer series, as that isnt my style of game.
Which is what gaming is all about. Pick something out ya like, and jam to your hearts content. If out of all the game out there, you cant find one to play, then it is time for you to leave the genre.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Exactly. That is how i feel about anyone who spends money on spreadsheet called EVE online. Each to his own i guess?
*rolls eyes*
People had max'd their character (level) before the game even released, in the early access for SWTOR.
Nobody has max'd out a character in EVE.
So...yeah, to each their own, some longer than others.
Funny you should bring up that line from Braveheart....if any pecker envy is going on it is by sandbox gamers cause no one wants to build them a game. Their jealousy is strong, as evidenced by this forum.
This post being the very epitome of it.
BW made a pretty dog gone good game for us to play. I appreciate it, and I know others do as well. Pity the ones that dont like it, and would rather spend their time tearing it down, rather than supporting a game in their chosen sub genre. Once again, I present this TOR forum as states evidence.
I see folks calling on people not to support themepark games on the main board.....uh how about you let us spend our money how we want eh? It isnt our responsibility to make sure you get new AAA sandboxes.

Every game needs a hook for players to keep playing.
Which is why I was left scratching my head when SWTOR didn't have this.
My best friend (who originally introduced me to Guild Wars) who got the game for Christmas says there's an obvious draw to the game for him: it's fun and the story is entertaining, and apparently he takes a lot of delight in having a wookie campanion. But he admits he'll only be playing it until he can no longer avoid the things he hates about MMOS like raiding and superficial nonsense. He likes the stat mods, and the space fighting minigame, but he probably won't be paying a sub for long once GW2 hits, since he's been waiting a long long time for it.
I don't know if it's fair to say there's no hook this early on, but maybe you played the beta. I'm steering clear of SWTOR type games for technical, pricing, and other reasons.
As for the main subject at hand, and for the people trying to defend the price as "a drop in the bucket" or "covering server costs", just stop. We already know the fees are neither necessary nor desired, people are just used to paying for MMOs and do it unquestioningly.
Don't really understand the relevance of thie throwaway statement.

Yep I agree. The only reason I see for paying a sub-fee if the PvP would be something spectacular so to give the game some longetivity but from what I have seen so far I doubt it.

For the new? This generic Themepark drivel has been rehashed a million times since WoW was released X years ago; there is nothing new about it.
And no, we dont want games from 1999, we want the bloody genre to move on and innovate like so many other industries instead of trying, again and again, to copy WoW's success.

That's the reality, people do enjoy such games. All you can do is swallow and accept it. People won't change their likings just because yours are different and developers won't stop delivering where the demand is the highest.
Unhappy with the state of reality? Do not vent your frustration here though, subject of the forums are games, not your personal issues.

So, you are 39 and have been playing Multiplayer Online Games since you were 10 years old? In other worlds you were playing mmorpgs since 1982 or 29 years ago?
Well, in what type of computer you played mmo's back in 1982? Was in a CP-500 like this? As far as I know. There were no internet as we know it today back then, but only for military purposes. Maybe you were playing mmo's telepathically. Who knows.

Let me guess, maybe because it sold millions of boxes. Has hundreds of servers packed with people and some with huge queues... While the sandbox hater crowd keeps crying against swtor on the forums =P

Except that they fail to actually copy WoW's success. You'd have a point, if these WoW-based MMOs didn't dwindle down to a few hundred thousands subs, within a matter of months.. but they always do. TOR will be no different, because it isn't actually better than WoW. It just seems that way because it's so shiny and new, but that that wears off quickly.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Austerity in countries around the world and a difficult outlook for 2012 isn't exactly an inspiration to sub ANY game right now. But that's just my opinion based on personal circumstances and watching too much business news.
Now please cancel your account now and go back to playing what popular crap you love so less queue's for the rest of us.
Seriously, messages with two lines and only saying "THIS GAME SUCKS" is childish and boring.
The OP just gave is opinion about the game.
Just because no one likes a game hes taged as a hater...please...
I've playd the game myself, and i agree with the OP in some way, the game as nothing new to offer, it's boring...combat is boring, quests are like any other in any other game...kill this x times and go back to turn in the quest.
Theres no freedom to explore the world and its to much instanced for my liking, u can see how much a game as to offer in just a few hours of playing, experiance dictates it really.
Are we a minority yes we are, thats why companies realease games like these, they sel...and thats why theres no one trying to inovate the genre, why shoul'd they they hited the jackpot !!

But how do you know they enjoy them?
If you look at subs, they usually dwindle away from all the millions and billions of boxed copies sold, rite?
So how do you know they enjoy them? It looks to me that they buy it, expect something cool, then don't enjoy them and just go away.
You don't spot a great restaurant by how big its opening is, but how many people go there day in day out for month on end.
Its a service, not a product.
The WoW-model only proved successful for WoW, nobody ever replicated its success or came even close for that matter.
