Just need to check the OP's post history, he is on a crusade to get the game F2P as he only plays F2P games, he wants to play but i'm guessing he either cant afford to play or his parents wont let him. His crusade posts started around the time the Beta weekend event was happening in November, before then he had no posts relating to SWtor.
To be honest, i just whacked $60 (£30 in real money ) on a horse, but that is from a tip and a financial return.
Now, $15 a month for a game is what i've always done, but to warrant that, it has to be better than anything on the market that is cheaper or free. This is also on top of the original box price of course.
As it stands, it could be said that LOTRO, WoW or even Rift have more to offer, even though i do not play them. It isn't my problem it's 'just released', that's what the 7 years development are for.
It's a product at the end of the day and the MMO industry must be the only one in existance where the customers, on recieving a sub-par/unexpected product, say "it will improve" or "give them time".
The reason is that people were spoilt early on with these games and are so desperate for the same, they will take any shit on a plate and say thank you. It's not free, i won't say "good effort" when the chef burns my steak to a crisp, i paid, do it again.
That is why 'normal' people moan, as it's not the product they expected on purchase. Most would get a refund, but sad thing is, they so desperately want it to be what they purchased.
If the game wasnt down for three to eight hours every time I have four hours to sit down and play it.
Makes it kind of hard to play a game when devs are constantly bringing the servers down for a four hour emergency maintanance to add baby names to the credits.
for the last three days in a row, the servers have been down for at least four hours a day. We had two full days of uptime before that thank god, but the first week there where two back to back downtimes.
Honestly, this game has just about had as many downtime days as uptime days at this point.
If I can think of one thing that is going to cause people to not continue playing after the first month besides crashing, it's unscheduled downtime.
I dont care about your eight hour weekly maintanance. I do care when I wake up at 1am to play before work and see an "EMERGENCY DOWNTIME TO FIX SOME DERPY EMOTE!!! TEN HOURS!!!"

Ok then. Guess I'll go play wow. Thanks anyway.
I live in the UK and work a '9 to 5' job and have experienced very little down time. Unfortunately if you work unusual hours you're going to be experiencing the worst of the down time and unfortunately in the first few weeks of a games launch and content patches it's something to be expected.

Same, i don't get much time to play, but it makes me feel better when i log on tonight, with lots of rest XP and people pissed off at being sat at home all day with nothing to do. Sweeeet
i finally caved and bought the game for myself and my wife. i wasn't going to as there hadn't been an official release for australia, but eb games got it in anyway. good on them for surprising me with customer service.
let me tell you what my money has bought me for 3 days:

Keeping a WoW sub going for a while. I might not do that, in all seriousness, when MoP is launched for Panda-related reasons. I might not sub to any games even, given the global financial situation as well as how mine will be by then, but I am keeping an eye on TOR for any improvements that might make me think about subbing up. We will see.

Fun. Play on the Harbinger. Its the unofficial Aussie PvE server.
Server downtime is a bit screwy this week due to Christmas / New Years breaks. Its usually once a week on Tuesdays.
The game is decent as a free to play type game. But it is not an mmo its more of a single player RPG with some chat thrown in. Who is actually willing (Be honest) to pay $15 dollars a month for a game not worth one penny???
1) People who have enough money to not care.
2) People whose standards for MMO's are far far far lower than gamers back in the DAoC and UO days.
3) People who don't realize they're condoning bad game development and allowing these developers to continue to milk the bullshit themepark cookie-cutter MMO design that's ruined this genre.
Yup, these people paying for this game are now letting the companies develop a single player game, throw a tiny bit of multiplayer on top, call it an MMO, and then charge $15 a month for it. And it WORKED. Prepare for more.
Even though I want to blame the MMO gamers of this age for paying for the games in the first place, it's hard to put the blame on them. They have different standards and that's all there is to it. And you can't blame the companies for wanting to make tons of money. So screw it, gotta accept the complete trash this genre has become. They won't get my money though.
From Ultima Online to this. Jesus Christ people just take a look it's not that hard to see.

Oh, unless you count the 2 million + current subscribers. But besides that handful of people, NO ONE.
Oh, and me and everyone I know who has an IQ over 50. But besides that...

I am a huge fan of DAOC; I did not discover mmorpg's until DAOC came out. So I missed UO, EQ, AC, and the oldest games. But DAOC I loved. And I love TOR as well.
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!!!!
But seriously, You are perhaps confusing personal preference with good game.
I can 'See' quite well thank you.
All games have pro's and cons, even DAOC.
You can certainly say you do not enjoy playing TOR, but to equate disagreeing with you with "Jesus Christ people just take a look it's not that hard to see. " is not reasonable.

I agree 100%, WesKhan...
We went from legendary MMO's of UO, EQ, and Daoc to straight up crap... EQ2 wasn't bad, but SOE screwed that up by putting in the ridiculous mentor system which IMHO ruined EQ2 for me.. Everything became so much easier when doing dungeon runs, heritage quests, etc..
I may be waaaay off here, but I personally feel the MMO genre of today combined FPS and MMO elements and what we got is this EZ mode themepark rollercoaster cookie cutter hold your hand, wipe your nose, tie your shoes, pre school mode of hybrid games..
Personally I was never a real fan of Counter Strike, Doom, Duke Nukem, Rainbow Six, Team Fortress, etc.. I loved RPG's growing up, and was an avid reader of fantasy novels... So when UO came out, it was like living in my very own fantasy world.. Same thing with EQ, even though the content was more structured than UO..
I have friends and family who loved these fast paced FPS games.. Back when I played EQ, none of those friends and family could get into EQ.. They claimed it was a boring waste of time and too hard to play... Guess what? When WoW came out, all of them jumped on the MMORPG bandwagon and most are pretty much now back to playing FPS games like Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc.. Some still play WoW, a couple are currently playing TOR, but none of them would ever choose to play a fantasy MMORPG like EQ where the main focus is to explore and interact with other people and group up.. They don't like sandbox mmo's, they prefer EZ mode roller coaster rides where they don't have to use their brain to accomplish their goals within the game..
This is why the MMO's of today can't really keep subscribers past 3-6 months, unless your playing World of Warcraft.. How many WoW clones have we seen in the past 7 years become a F2P ghost town or remain a sub based ghost town??? Pretty much every single one.. So you do the math and tell me what went wrong.. ^_^
Dev's need to start making games strictly for one type of fanbase. I'm sick of seeing these hybrids.. If you plan on creating a MMORPG which takes elements from D&D and modern fantasy mythology, then please make it a sandbox type of game.. If your main focus is pvp with little pve, then by all means create a epic rollercoaster fps style game.. Don't try to trick your playerbase by saying it's a pve/pvp game that will appeal to both PVE roll playing fans and fps pvp fans!! Because I personally know the game will NOT appeal to both types of gamers.. If it does, it will only be interesting for about a month maybe two at max before we both get bored and come on these forums complaining about what it needs and shouldn't have in game..
Dev's need to seriously go back to the basics in my opinion. Yea their goal is to make lots and lots of money, but they should also care about creating a legendary epic game where players feel happy to log into every day for years, not just a couple months!

I have to take my hat off to swtor for being the shortest played game ive ever played and i do give games a good go expecting myself to get stuck in eventually but it just never happened. I wont lie the chatting storyline quests are fairly new but after a time after a day at work and being knakered i just glaze over and do not really take anything in.
I found character customisation not so great, UI a bit ifffy and unsubbed yesterday.
Not only will I NOT pay $15 a month but I won't buy the pretty box either. I'm done handing out my hard earned bucks as charity to incompetent gaming companies.

All games have pro's and cons, even DAOC.
You can certainly say you do not enjoy playing TOR, but to equate disagreeing with you with "Jesus Christ people just take a look it's not that hard to see. " is not reasonable.
Let me explain. Of course there will always be exceptions. Of course EVERY SINGLE player from the MMO golden days won't hate every new game. But I garuntee if you ask MOST people from those days if they think MMO's and gaming in general has lost creativity and uniqueness, they will respond yes. There will still be people like you who are still pleased with the washed-down junk (my opinion) that developers make these days, it's not all black and white like you're making it.
The thing is that there is no more creativity or uniqueness and throwing money at games like this is supporting that. If people like you keep buying into these things, you're gonna get more MMOs with the same bullshit "skill tree", the same bullshit interface, the same bullshit theme-park quest driven crap we've been getting ever since WoW made millions. LOOK at the game, LOOK at the games that came after WoW. They ALL have major similarities, and you cannot deny that. Developers don't make a game using creativity and uniqueness like they used to do. In the big corporations eyes it's far too risky to put that much money into a game they're not sure will take off. But hell I guess if you enjoy getting the same god damn washed-down game over and over and over then go ahead and support it by all means.
I knew a developer at Bioware and got a chance to have a little chat with him. He almost never plays games and his MMO experience extended to WoW and some other one. The companies don't need gamers anymore, they need developers who can follow orders and pump out cookie-cutter game after cookie-cutter game to appease the masses. The developers don't even know what the hell a good game is!!!! They don't say "Let's make this kind of game it would be awesome!". They say, "Okay this game and this game made this amount of money, what can we do to take their design, tweak it to our needs, and maximize our net gain? Oh I know! Take the same shit and slap Star Wars on top of it!".
And lastly, of course all games have pros and cons, what point are you trying to make? Also, when I said "Jesus Christ people..." I meant that it's not hard to see what the developers are doing. It had nothing to do with me not liking TOR, so your statement doesn't really make sense. Equate disagreeing with me with my statement? What does that even mean?

everyday maintenance / future class nerfing plus weak pvp. i think thats it. was fun few weeks but dont have time for this.
Not my meaning at all, the forum seems be flooded by haters and fanboys posting and reposting the same stuff, I dislike it equally.

in conclusion; we know what i paid my bucks for this month - i'd like to know what everyone else paid for. what's this game actually like?
Keeping a WoW sub going for a while. I might not do that, in all seriousness, when MoP is launched for Panda-related reasons. I might not sub to any games even, given the global financial situation as well as how mine will be by then, but I am keeping an eye on TOR for any improvements that might make me think about subbing up. We will see.
Fun. Play on the Harbinger. Its the unofficial Aussie PvE server.
Server downtime is a bit screwy this week due to Christmas / New Years breaks. Its usually once a week on Tuesdays.
NO ONE!
Oh, unless you count the 2 million + current subscribers. But besides that handful of people, NO ONE.
Oh, and me and everyone I know who has an IQ over 50. But besides that...
NO ONE
Me. I had high hopes for TSW but lost any genuine interest in the game.

Next..................GW2?
Not only will I NOT pay $15 a month but I won't buy the pretty box either. I'm done handing out my hard earned bucks as charity to incompetent gaming companies.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
TSW will probably come out first.
Then GW2
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Anyways, there you go.
