But all the cool kids on this site agree that Rift is already dead and that Trion should just close already or go f2p.

OMG, don't tell me the majority of the posters on this site are full of bullsheet!

Wish they didn't follow the generic theme park model so strictly - the quality put into the game and devlopment team are both amazing - but the actual game is still just boring theme park.

Rift was a good experience for me for the first month ...after that it got a bit old and i unsubbed .....that said , when i unsubbed i had just gottenbilled for a 3 month subscription .

I contacted trion and told them that i had stopped playing the game and asked if they could refund my latest sub as i was no longer playing.........THEY DID SO WITHOUT HASSLE.

Rift may not have been for me . but a company that takes care of even players who are leaving thier game has made me open to anythign they bring out in the Future .......i hope the company continues to do well .....they are a rare class act among online gaming companies , i wish them the best .

Tell us, please, exactly how OP would you like Clerics to be before tanks that can HEAL are "balanced"???

The Soul Class system causing balance problems? Thats impossible!!!

Rift was made that everyone would be a hybrid class. So why is a Rogue Tank/Support hybrid perfectly fine and a Cleric Tank/Heal hybrid forbidden?

Also, a Justicar being able to heal for a couple hundred is pathetic when you're taking thousands of damage a hit in raids.

When Inwar Darktide hits you with a 10k Lash Wave a Cleric is all like "dont worry I can heal myself for 400". Oh yeah, super over powered.

Oh, how Ive missed hardcore Rift defenders. Always good for a laugh.

Pretty game, but ever so boring (IMO).  Threadmills are work, which isn't often fun for long - Dev's need to learn this.  Wish Rift luck...you have a rough road ahead.

Not sure why people are talking about Ragnaros, but if you want to compare to current content, roughly 70 guilds in the world have beaten heroic Deathwing - given that WoW has at least 20x the subscribers, that sounds equivalent to a handful of Rift guilds.

Also, word is that the average guild that has beaten it (and these are the best raid guilds in the world) took upwards of 400 attempts. That's a guildbreaker.

Sounds to me like Blizzard and Trion have been tuning their hardest raids quite similarly.

I could never get into this game.  I dont know why.  Are there any good aspects to this MMO?

Actually most of the, 'cool kids', think the games great despite it being a generic love letter to WoW.

It's amazing what a dungeon finder, patches with similar content, and a company everyone hates on these boards as competition, will do for your rep on these forums.

Basically RIFT is what EVE Online used to be here.  Everyone thinks the company great but most of the posters who champion them aren't active subbers....very curious.

This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid!

First off, kudos to Trion, Rift was a lot of fun for 6 months.

My playing style however is deadmeat boring at end game.

What is that style?  SOLO, not because I wanted to necessarily, but I never clicked with a guild that actually had enough players on, so I did very little dungeon crawling, but also because of them making Rogues POSSIBLE secondary healers and I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE doing that and of course that is what most groups wind up asking for, which was just majorly annoying and intolerable FOR ME.   Anxiety issues... and more torture than fun, so no thank you.

But I can't expect Trion to get rid of that spec so.... boom I'm a goner, although I have 3 50's, 2 rogues (I like 'em and made one strictly for scavenging), and a warrior, which was the 3rd 50 and thus is also a problem for groups, because their gear is not up to snuff.

I also took every single crafter class to max, but the high end craftable gear is a ridiculous grind and impossible for a solo'r, seriously stupidly so, IMHO with all the parts needed, just for one piece, so that aint happening, either.

Oops,  I forgot to mention I play on a PvE server, but PvP for me became a boring grind, fun in small doses but to get the tiered gear from it, an amazing time sink, and also WAY BETTER than the stuff I can get in PvE at the top end, so I can't compete there all that well, either.

Problem for me, at least, was limited # of maps, length of time per game vs reward.

    ---------------

Other than that, IMHO superior to WoW, EQ/EQ2, Linage2, Vanguard, DAOC, Age of Conan, etc.

I am probably just burned out on the genre, and I just don't have the time to play extreme, so I am stuck as a mostly solo'r.

I did a couple public raids in Rift and plenty of actual Rifts, but none of the MAJOR dungeons so I can't comment on those, sadly. 8(

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another problem for a solo'r like myself, yes I can get plat, but there is NOTHING available to buy on the auction house to improve my chars at all or not by much, and that stuff is over priced vs effort it would take to get enough of it to make a dent.

I make all my own potions, runes, etc, but it's still just BLAH, no soloable content with actual loot improvement drops.

And yes, I know it's a multiplayer game, and my often insomnia play time is not real sweet deal either.

And as usual pvp players as in two billion forum threads whine and moan and hate because surely the only goal of developers is to make them angry. Seriously now, I'm tired of your permanent whining in all threads, give us a break, go play FPS or enjoy pvp in mmo's and stop talking about how broken your class is or the other classes are OP and every game is a pvp failure. Can't you just fuck up once in a while because I'm tired of reading your ignorant BS for years now.

To be fair, we are equally sick of hearing solo/pve players whine that pvp is ruining thier fun. You sound as if MMO's are strickly pve and we should be lucky to even get some pvp...lol?

I'm equally sick of just dumb posts in general that don't add much to the matter at hand, so I avoid them, and rarely comment.  8)

If you don't like a game, find another, good grief, it's idiotic, I own so many games I have a ridiculous # of choices and would need 100 more years to fully explore them all, my ADHD probably not helpful.  <g>

I found this bit kinda funny.

I quit Rift 6 months ago mainly because Clerics were the worst tanks by far. I decided to come back for the free 3 days and I find out that Cleric tanks have actually gotten worse. Amazing.

So yeah, Trion ignored class balance 6 months and it looks like they are continuing to ignore class balance. Good for them.

    Lets look at something.

Warriors: DPS & Tank (4 DPS & 4 Tank Souls)

Rogues: DPS, Tank, & Support (1 Tank, 1 Support,  & 6 DPS Souls)

    Mage: DPS, Support, & Heals ( 1 Heal, 2 Support, & 5 DPS Souls)

Cleric:  DPS, Heals, & Tank (1 Tank, 3 Heals, & 4 DPS Souls)

Warriors only have 2 roles... it's only logical that they should be really good at them. They're arguably the best Tanks and DPS.

Rogues make both strong DPS and Tank and their Support role is one of the best in the game. The same can be said about the Mage... they bring potent heals and strong DPS and extremely good support.

Clerics however are the only class that can do all 3 parts of the mmo-trinity (Heal, DPS, Tank) and you're complaining because they're not on par with other classes' tanking? As a tank they're just as capable as any other tank... they may not be the best, but they're still very much viable.

While I am not one to advocate making classes weaker or stronger than others in the same role, it is almost impossible to make things equal, could they be closer? Sure, but there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Clerics and Rogues both only have 1 tank soul. I'm no Cleric or Rogue expert, but one would think that in order to get the most out of that role they would put 51 points into their Tank soul. That leaves 15 points to go into either a DPS or Heal/Support soul. Warriors on the other hand have 4 Tank souls... They can distribute ALL 66 points into their tanking souls. Is that why they're better? Maybe, but it sure shouldn't allow them to be worse than the other 2 at that role. One could also argue that Mages are the best support as they have 2 support souls... and Clerics make the best healers because they have 3 healing souls.

    I agree with you 100%

And to the moron you responded to.  My guild is 10/11 in HK and guess what, our MT has been on vacation and for the past 6 weeks we've been maintaining that 10/11 each week with a *gasp* cleric as our MT.  She does JUST FINE against all the bosses in HK.  So please, stop with the whining.  I'm so sick of clerics whining.  It just smacks of the "Well i want to have my cake and eat it to".  I really wish Trion wouldnt have let clerics tank in the first place.  Not only woudl it solve the loot table issue of every raiding guild vendoring 30% of their loot each night b/c its cleric loot and nobody needs it because their clerics got gearedout in 2 raids.  But then we wouldnt have to listen to the incessant whining.

I think this post just squashed any thought of checking the game out again this weekend. If this is an example of the people in the player base the devs have been listening to, I'll pass.

Trion killed the game for many when they reversed tack on the soul system and nerfed the heck out of anything that didn't fit into the traditional MMORPG mold. That this guy is asking for even fewer choices and lamenting roles that are even slightly out of the status quo of stale MMO design gives some indication of the niche that the game has maintained and now has to cater to.

RIFT had huge potential. However, the game world was way too small, half the zones were horribly designed and the ease with which they surrendered on one of the biggest innovations the game offered, (a Soul System that offered true diverstiy and addressed play styles that don't fit firmly into the stale old mold), signalled the beginning of the decline not long after the game launched.

Gratz to them for finding a niche they could maintain for revenue, but hints of what that niche entails speak heavily against giving the game a second chance. I'm sure Trion must have great affection for the warm way with which some of  their remaining players embrace potential returnees.

You know what's really hilarious?  I don't think either side of this arguement is comin from people who actually understand the soul system.... the comment pointing out what roles each class was capable of doing took the cake...

Protip... just because a class has 1 tanking soul doesn't mean that there aren't awesome tanking talents in the other souls.

As another guy said...  Rift does have a fairly deededee population.

  • I liked the game enough to sub for 6 months (which ran out a while back) and I believe they do listen to their customers (at least those vocal enough and numerous enough).

I'm not sure where that leaves the rest but this must work for making money but not so sure how it works from an artistic point of view. And by artistic I mean how unique and immersive a game is which if you consider the state of the average gamer these day I can't blame them for the path they are on.

Still, I cast my one vote by not continuing to sub or play. And thats ok.
