"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

This thread, and the previous thread SuperNerd created about Girl Gamers, makes me cry deep inside.

Now I fully understand what those nerds around my age are thinking. Sad day.

Well he's half right.  They do make adult games in small supply- but something like 95% of all MMO's are rated Teen- for the same reason you haven't seen too many "R" movies come out of major Hollywood studios lately.  Lions Gate Films does not count.  Market analysts insist Teen ratings fetch more money.

It will change as there are more avid adult gamers.  It's happening now.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

well mainly i think the oringinal poster is a moron. most gamers are in the 26-30 range, And as with teenies playing. It would be great to have an adult only game so that we can finaly get rid of those brats

Here Here! A game with out the kiddies? I would buy that. In all seriousness even if an adult game WAS made there would still be kids. Who do you think Pays for their accounts now? If a game was adult only and used a form of age verification you would still get kids playing it. THey would jus trarely admit to it. I say make an adult game and to hell with the kids. They are going to do what they want anyway.

What is it with internet forums? someone makes a post that obviously the grammer isn't 100% correct and you get geek after geek posting replies about their grammer, then editing their reply afterwards when they realize that their own grammer isn't up to scratch. :o Oh no! whats everyone going to think if you've made a few mistakes in your post?!

Are you all english teachers or something? ::::05:: give it a rest with the lectures on grammer, i'm sure your grammer wasn't perfect when you were their age, don't just use it as an excuse to make the poster look uneducated and not knowing what hes talking about, how about replying with a discussion about the topic rather than about his grammer?

Because there is a difference in grammatical errors due to inexperience, and blatently not attempting to use it in an effort to be an irritation. The original poster's writing style clearly shows he is old enough to understand the basics of sentence and paragraph structure, However he thinks it is "cool" to defy those rules and make it look like something an epileptic child whos finger is currently siezing on the enter key wrote. I will ignore most grammer and spelling errors, hell I am 26 and make them myself. Crap like that however I will just flat out assume the Poster has the IQ of a grape and pretty much discount anything they have to say from that point.

I agree it'll be a while before we see an MMO where you can lop off limbs, and the local drunken dwarf in the pub starts spouting off language that would make a pirate red faced. However, never say never.

Actually it varies but 28 is in the age range I mentioned and I linked to two separate articles that discuss the topics.

    It's humorous.

Anyone who plays these knows that the average age is well, well above teenagers, and keeps moving up because the folks who like to play games are getting older and not giving up their gaming hobby.

I know that in EVE, there are remarkably few very young players. They are around, but in reality most of the people I've run into in various corps in EVE have been mid 20s, and there are a lot of folks who are 30+. I don't recall ever really playing with someone who was under 20, although I have played with some folks who were 21-22, but were mature for their age.

True in SWG as well as most other established MMORPG's. Most players are 20+ nowdays. The mean AVERAGE age for Gamers in general is like 26 while the average for MMORPG players is mid 30's.

I wonder what WoW's average player age is since it's sucking a LOT of console/desktop game players into the genre it'd be interesting to see what the average age there is.

My dad is hacking and slashing away at WoW right this second, actually.  He's about to be 43, or 44, I forget.  He loves the game.  I'm not joking either, it's very rare for him to go one single day without playing it.

He's been into gaming ever since I have though.  He used to tease me about spending so much time playing game, then he got Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo.  After that it was all down hill.  Poor little guy, never saw the gaming addiction hit him. *shakes his head*

Poor grammAr (not grammer) gets on our nerves.

Actually, to be honest no one even had to pick at the original poster's grammar to determine whether he was intelligent or not.  His facts are completely wrong.  He's obviously posting out of pure opinion and lack of knowledge about gaming communities with very little, if any, research done.

We pick on grammar because it's amusing.

You're wrong. We don't find it amusing. Its only annoying when its obvious the poster has no clue how to type or talk, and can't get his point across. However, the grammar nazis, or trolls in general, love to pick out every single flaw. I don't think many people would find picking on someone's grammar amusing at all. What does it prove? You have better grammar? Congratulations we are all awed at the awesomeness of your grammatical pwnage.

First off, for me to be "wrong" it would have to be true about everyone.  Which we know isn't true because the person who posted just above you agreed with me that it was amusing to pick at the flaws of others obviously horrible grammar.  So, I guess you're wrong, because apparently some DO find it amusing.

Now, whether or not MANY find it amusing I can't say.  No, I don't actually find it amusing, I was actually joking.  I had figured that me picking out every flaw in a previous post would demonstrate that I wasn't actually being serious.  I mean, he typed humam and I corrected that, that was just a typo.  We've ALL made typos.  But apparently that wasn't a good enough example.

But yes, maybe it does prove I, and seemingly many more, have better grammar.  There's really very little excuse for having bad grammar other than this not being your first language.  However, for those who use English regularly, and only use English, you should atleast have decent grammar.

    There is no reason

    to type like this just

because you are too lazy to

    learn

    sentence structure.

But, I'll try to remember to type the letters J and K with a / inbetween them to inform anyone and everyone that I was joking.

Actually I find it very amusing that people can't be bothered to at least TRY to speak in clear english. Some posts are so mangled that it's almost impossible to understand what the hell people are saying because they're so busy trying to have their message LOOK "kewl" that they forget that someone has to actually read it.

I can understand taking a shortcut now and then for speed-of-typing issues but to mangle a sentance so badly that it is actually harder to read it than it was for the user to type it baffles me.

    For example:
Wot cn I do 2 hlp me get bettr at gnry?

I don't typically nitpick but some posts are so *deliberately* mangled that they merit teasing.

That actually made my head hurt.  Please don't ever do that again, even just to demonstrate an example. :(

Go read up on the Daedalus Project cause you my friend do not know JACK about the MMORPG community.

You think kids play MMORPGs? Funny, according to surveys, 75% of the subcribers to MMORPGs are 18+! And 50% of those people are over 30 YEARS OLD!!!

Kids buy CONSOLE GAMES, that's why stuff like Phantasy Star Online of FFXI on PS2 are failures (In North America! In Japan, PS2's version of FFXI sells more cause japan sucks for PCs, console is the way they work). MMORPGs require credit cards and require a monthly fee. How many parents are gonna let their child borrow their Credit Card # or like the idea their kid is spending 20$ a month on a video game subscription? Not many.

Oh and that's odd... Sociolotron is an adult MMORPG. People in Second Life design sexual-related sceneries. So WTF are you talking about?

    ___________ ___ __ _ _ _
    Stealth - Ambush - Hemorrhage - Sinister Strike x2 - Cold Blood - Eviscerate - Vanish - Preparation - Cold Blood - Ambush - ... you're dead! :P
