No it doesn't "end", you obviously don't know how it works at all.
Actually, it ends after two weeks. So even though it takes a while, it does eventually end. Hopefully we will get to fight the same servers often and develop some rivalries. Also, I hope there is a lot of depth and strategy to the map to keep it from getting old too fast. They have the potential to do a lot with the resource mechanic and really make the World PvP great.
That's why I put it in quotation marks. It doesn't end the same way a battleground ends once you have completed the objective which is what he was talking about.

Honestly, no, i'm not really worried about the PvP. We've only seen 1 PvP map, we know that PvP is a pretty big deal for Anet, and we have yet to get anything close to a full demo of the game.
We haven't really seen the game yet, but I would definitely wait until it's actually playable before making such judgements. On the one hand, it's good that you aren't overhyping it, but on the other you are basically judging this game before anyone has really had a fully hands-on experience (so far the only form of this game the public has played have been fairly limited gamescon demos).

Conquest sounds bad and honestly, grinding 4on4 arenas on repeat is also bad.
Just another WoW clone with different art. Waiting for a gem that actually takes world PvP seriously, not arena grind.
What WoW have you been playing?
This game, alllll the way down to the CORE mechanics, is totally different than wow. Go spread your stuff elsewhere mmk?
In terms of PvP. No open world (although, you can pathetically argue WoW has OWPvP), and generic grindy battlegrounds. Even their world vs world vs world is simply a bigger instanced "game", there's no persistence whatsoever. It's like WoW's Alterac Valley on a much larger scale.
Zzz.
had on early days when people group up to attack some opposite faction sectors like for example major crossroad battles , there wasnt any other reason for it thatn just try to destroy the place killing npc or horde players as via if you played with alliance or defend the place as horde, this type of pvp should have implemented to be rewarding and target change and players actually got some rewards for doing it. i just remembered it to be most fun pvp i remember on wow times, alterac valley lastet hours at early stage aswell so im only glad if that type of pvp is going to be in gw2 with larger scale.
Hey everybody, I have a very wacky and almost absurd suggestion...
How about we wait for the game to game to come out first.....?
So people can't discuss a game until it comes out? I mean I can understand if someone were saying they refuse to play because of an aspect of the game that may or may not be in the game, but I don't see that going on here. Relax man.
I would rather have a more interactive world pvp style focus (e.g., build your own castle and capture or destroy other castle/cities etc). That aside I am nonpulsed about the current pvp in gw2 though overall the game is appealing.

Why is there only conquest mode for competitive PvP?
...
Arenanet has said that one of their goals for GW2 was to make it a successful e-sport. They have also said that one of the things that they learned from GW1 was that having multiple forms of PvP resulted in a severely fractured PvP player-base, and one of the significant down-sides of this fractured player-base was that success in one form of PvP did not always translate into success in the other forms of PvP. This meant that while a player may dominate in random or team arena PvP, they may find their attempts to get into Guild vs Guild or Heroes' Ascent rebuffed and would end up segregating themselves to RA and/or TA. So in GW1 you had RA players, TA players, HA players, GvG players, AB players, HB players, Codex players, etc... Rarely did a PvP'er ever participate in a meanigful way to all available forms of PvP, a subset maybe, but rarely all.
Now, since Anet wants GW2 to succeed at e-sports, they decided that the first thing they needed to fix was the fractured nature of their PvP community by putting forward just one, solid PvP format that the entire PvP community was well versed in and could participate in, thus maximizing the talent pool and comprehension of the format. Thus was born Structured PvP and it's capture-point format.
There will come a time where GW2 has conclusively succeeded or failed at becoming an e-sport, and once this has happened I would expect Anet to start putting forward new PvP formats, if required. To do so before that point would jeopardize their efforts at becoming a successful e-sport. Anet has not mentioned any such sort of correlation, but it is what I imagine their reasoning to be.
I played GW1...and I have to admit, I am kind of tired of scenario pvp, and I think mmo arena stuff is boring, would rather play a FPS....I much prefer open world pvp, so thats what I am looking forward to....It is much less predictable, with 3 sides imo.

To be fair we don't even have to wait to know for a fact that Worm is wrong, at this point any one who would agree with him and still have the mindset of the OP, I'll let them believe they actually kow what they are talking about till the game is out.
In the end I agree with you but most aren't waiting because it is something hard not to bite lol.

I believe you misunderstood me. There is nothing coherently wrong with dicussing a game until it comes out, I mean honestly this is a forum, I'm merely saying that talking about something we know next to nothing about is kind of.... pointless? Yes we have videos, and maybe some interviews but aside form that, we don't know a whole heck of a lot about what's going to happen. Not to mention it could change at any point.
I usually don't PvP that much any any MMO. I think I feel the opposite as the OP because GW2 actually taps my urge to have some fun in PvP. the esport usually isn't my thing because by the time I get around to touching PvP in games, others usually are geared enough to steamroll taking a lot of the fun out of it. Nice to know GW2 isn't going that route. I am willing to bet that they will add more to the Esport type pvp if conquest style isn't your thing. I am not disappointed I am excited.
Throwing all the venom in this thread aside, I see a lot to agree with in this post. I do a lot of PVP in Warcraft, but I'm a completionist more than anything else. I'm the kinda' guy who will spend a straight two weeks doing nothing but PVP in order to get a full set of PVP gear, and then completely stop PVPing. Why do I stop once I finally have the ability to trounce people in lesser gear, and stand more of a chance against people with amazing gear? Simple - because I did it not out of an enjoyment of PVP as much as I did an enjoyment out of accomplishing a goal.
I do enjoy PVP, obviously I wouldn't have dealt with the gear grind long enough to get it done if I didn't, but I think specialized gear and not being on an even footing all the time with everybody sucks the bragging rights right out of a game in the first place. That's all gone in GW2. Any team I win against, I defeated because I was better. Any team I lose against, I lost to because I was worse. It's both invigorating and humbling, just like an online versus game should be, and I say bring it on.
Ach, nevermind, other people have already responded to your concerns in other posts that WvWvW is NOT INSTANCED and that you do NOT QUEUE UP for it and it does NOT RESET when you leave, and you just ignored them.
methinks this is an attempt at SWTOR fanbois trying to hit back at GW2 fans by saying something is bad before even a beta footage is released, what do you think?
I didn't ignore anyone, I just don't monitor MMORPG.com forums at all. I post and forget a lot of the times.
So, you only participate here to the extent of posting opinions based on a very flawed information and don't generally try to educate yourself further, or bother to read most of the replies?
Ok, well, I hope that makes things clearer for people who might stumble accross your "concerns" for the game.
World vs. World vs. World is three faction, World based PvP that takes place in a special region containing four full game zones; three zones, each providing a beach head for a given game server, surrounding the fourth zone in the middle. Each match up of three servers is fully persistant for a two week period of time. At the end of the two weeks, the connections between those three worlds is broken and your server is pitted against another two game worlds for the next two week war.
There is objective based PVP content here, ranging from tasks that a small group can accomplish to capturing, holding or laying seige to massive fortresses and a lot in between. There is also PVE content here and numerous Dynamic Event chains are spread through out the four zones that make up this region. There will be organized warbands here, small groups of skirmishers and even people out to tackle some PVE content in a massive region that provides the thrill and danger of Open World PVP.
You bring your skills and equipment into WvWvW, but everyone who enters here has their effective level scaled to the level cap of 80. A true level 80 will have an advantage over a true level 20, for sure, but everyone will be able to participate here in a meaningful manner, with out worrying about a few uber powerful characters ruining everything for other players.
There are many huge benefits to this design that should be obvious. We aren't talking about some large, glorified arena based battleground.
Not usually a fan of PvP, but that sounds pretty kick-ass. Gives a lot of options of involvement. I didn't know there would be PvE and De events/contnet going on in these zones. Planned guild groups/objective and random conflicts. I think i could get into that.
Any one here also feel the same way as me? When I watch the PvP videos of GW2 I don't feel "oh wow that looks SO fun to play".
Why is there only conquest mode for competitive PvP? Yes, I know it's not confirmed BUT they said in several interviews where people ask if conquest is the only PvP form, they answer that Conquest is the only form of PvP at the moment. And that is in Alpha stage, so for you who will say that it's not confirmed that there is only Conquest in competitive PvP. Why would there only be one form of PvP in alfa stage? Everything that is NOT in the game now> talking about ACTUAL content > Will not be in at launch.
My favourite PvP in GW1 was TA>Team Arenas where teams of 4 played pretty much death match and it had one map with kill count. This was so much fun, spent countless hours doing this and made very good friends and arch enemies:P
I guess those of you that have not played GW1 PvP cannot understand how much fun and hard it was though.
But I really hope that Anet will get their brain on and add this.
I'm not disappointed.
If we look at WoW for a comparison, they have 6 types of battlegrounds (and Wintergrasp) and didn't have ANY at launch. There's also only one map for each type.
It's really not even analogous to what WoW is doing. It would be like if you had Arathi Basin but instead of just being one map, you had one map with Trebuchets, one map with a dragon scorching the earth, one map that takes place on a wall so it's vertical, and possibly one map with moving capture points.
Making them all Conquest at launch gives people the chance to understand the basic capture mechanic and then have the maps switch it up in different ways.
And remember, it's just at launch. I'm sure we'll see an upcoming take on GvG (only Team v Team) once some time has gone by and people have had a chance to learn the game.
And there's also World PVP at launch too, with keeps and DEs and trebuchets and siege suits and who knows what else. We all love the old Southshore vs Tarren Mill battles, but WvW is going to be awesome.

Gotta agree with cali59. not a big fan of pvp in other games only because people were able to exploit it or it just didn't function properly half the time or they mismatched players based on algrithms that had nothing to do with gear scoring, GW2 actually has changed my outlook. If its not gear based and it's a highly motion based mechanics for fighting i'm there and i hated pvp for years.
