You people amaze me...

WOW is a handout that is labeled with an "I WIN" button!

Cant you people get that thru your heads how simple they made WoW????

I leveled a Gnome mage on one server to 60 in 19 days played time and another Gnome mage to 60 on another server in 15 days played! AND I have a Wife and a Job!

Recently went back to EQ2 and I am amazed what they did with all the patches and upgrades/updates.

WoW is "A Kids Guide to MMO's" and that is it!!!

Thats the Bottom Line!

yeah it's easy, everyone that plays it pretty much knows this.

It was intended to be casual from ground up so that those that WANT to have a life outside the game, can.

This obviously doesn't suit everyones taste but it gives you no reason to insult people who enjoy the game for what it is.

Please point to me a game that is more worthy of my time that isn't filled with bugs, inbalance, or a great deal of boredom.  (I'm not saying WoW doesn't have a little of each either)

  • daeandordaeandor Member UncommonPosts: 2,695

I personally don't play WoW anymore either.  However, I don't see why everyone has to come in and bash the game.  In reality the game is excellent.  There is very little about WoW that is not well done as a game.  However, where WoW fails is once powergamers start grinding out lvl 60's, loot whoring, and cash farming.  This happens in other games, however WoW is by far the easiest to do this in IMO.  WoW fails in the endgame regardless of what some people say.  WoW is a game designed around the casual gamer, however they designed their endgame raiding around the old EQ model which does not match with their primary target playerbase.  Yes if you have a good raiding guild you can enjoy some excellent raid encounters, but if you do not you are bored.

Anyway, bottom line is:  Don't come in bashing wow for no reason.  Everyone knows it is relatively easy to level, we don't need to hear it a billion times.

Why would you level 2 gnome mages?
  • Sad to see the wife and job take a back seat to your leveling up in WoW.  But thats ok, you can lose yourself in EQ2 now.

I somehow doubt you got a character to level 60 in 15 days, and still have time for a family and job. I find it hard to believe that you go to a job all day(unless you're working a very minimal part time job), come home and have time to give attention to the wife and kids, and still manage to play WoW for hours and hours to get to 60.

Sure WoW is easy to lvl, but it has more to offer then just level ...

I leveled my Priest in /played 34 days.

I did Master enchanting + tailoring and explored the whole world ( just riding my horse and exploring was fun, and even got xp for it :p ).

I created a guild and helped guildies when they needed a priest.

So now I am 60 and I feel the game is not done yet by far.

Still have to do alot of PVP in BG's, raid various dungeons etc.

I agree that there are games with more depth out there, like SWG, that was a nice game, but Sony did so many things wrong, and Blizzard done so many things right.

DAoC had it's epic moments in RvR, but there were also many flaws in DAoC.

I never really gotten into EQ and Ultima Online, because in a game I want a user friendly interface, that's why I played Diablo and DiabloII at that time.

WoW is just a very polished MMORPG, with some flaws and not as much depth as other MMORPG's.

I prefer a nice polished MMORPG for a change :p

    Greetz.

To the people who said it was a kids MMO(just incase they didn't get it the first few times):

    IT'S FOR CASUAL GAMERS

  • DoomsayerDoomsayer Member Posts: 344

And its not 3.5 million avid experienced MMORPG players, its alot of first time MMORPG players, and people coming over from other genre games, like FPS, RTS, etc. And this is their first run in the MMORPG genre. They don't see it from the point of view as someone who has played many.

That being said, WoW was a blast for what it was. A three month distraction from a real MMORPG. It felt much like playing a console RP game. I made my character, did the quests, had some great fun along the way, hit max level, had fun with that for a little bit, then *crickets chirping* nothing to do.

And I was playing casually maybe on average 1-2 hours a night. But it wasnt even an every night thing. And don't bother chiming in about PvP...I played on a PvP server, Sargeras.

In many ways I felt that this game was better polished than many out there. Just way too easy, way more so than was neccessary for even the casual gamer. But some people like easy games. There is nothing wrong with that. I just prefer more of a challenge than WoW presented. That being said, I don't like insanely long time involvement games either, like the original EQ.

WoW is not my first MMORPG...It is the first I've acually had fun with the entire time I'm playing

  • BeermeisterBeermeister Member Posts: 104

WoW is fairly easy to hit lvl 60, usually it take 12-15 days /played time which isnt much and is doable for the casual gamer in 2 months or less. But after you hit 60 it takes alot of time to get geared up, epic mounts, rank in pvp and clear high end dungeons. Im guessing you just got a character to 60 with all grean gear and thought you beat the game.

  • DabuttDabutt Member Posts: 30

the bottum line is that WoW is a REALLY REALLY Fun game to play, no one can argue with that. However, having come from 6 years of EQ i can say that its Endgame is pathetic, and so is the rest of its content. however for the casual gamer it is a interesting experience. however i believe that if Blizz picked up there shit, and made HARDER endgame Zones + easyer endgame zones, like... a LOT of them like EQ had. and not all nececarilly Raid ones. then they could have a MUCH better game on there hands, they need to apeal to the player base who does want a challenge in there endgame, and a lot more of it. the other thing they could do is add AA like EQ had, Alternate advancment. EQ had tons of them and it gave playing a LOT more to do after max lvl then just raid, they could CONSTANTLY be upgrading there char in this way.

But WoW is a fun game for the casual player reguardless.

I agree whole heartedly. WoW is "The" dumbed down game of our age. Like you, went back to EQ2 and was stunned at how different it was when I first tried it. I still do not like the linked mobs, but the game is radically improved from when it came out. I cannot even log into WoW anymore.

  • monobluemonoblue Member Posts: 6

OP, youre doing the same thing as if i went to the EQ2 forum and said "EQ2: The washed-up couch potato's guide to MMORPGs." Grow up, the game is catered to people who don't feel like wasting 6 hours a day to get anything done. while i quit WoW about 3 months ago, it's an amazingly fun experience and still allowed me time to get outside, play some RTS and FPS, and omg, sleep.

I don't personally own EQ2, but i have many a college buddy who played/play and it looks like a pretty decent game, but every time someone comes in posting crap like this, it looks more and more catered to people who think slow and boring is the only way to make an MMORPG. you probably don't like people bashing on your precious game, so why would you come troll in here, it's not like anybody who likes he faster-pace in WoW is gonna go to EQ2 when there are things like GW or non-RPG mmos out there.

Well, in reply to "Nobody" you obviously did not play every aspect of the game.  World of Warcraft as far as I can see is not based completely on leveling and then once your max that's the end of the game...  With the new patches coming out weekly you probally did not even stick around long enough to see the many new features that have been released.

Blizzard has invented a PvP honor system with reward's for accomplishment's. Many PvP quest's in the Alteric Valley battle ground along with honor rewards from capturing flags in War Song Gulch. They also have added epic dungeon's to explore in massive raid's and trying to find epic item's. Talent tree's for all class (I hope you did know that there was more than mage classes, which I must say was very uber nuber that you made two mage classes because once you have completed one race and class combination you know the exact rope's to level faster than the first time) have been dramatically changed for a great balance in any fighting style that you do choose. Try exploring new classes and maybe actually have a proffesion and make money rather than just power level to 60 grinding all day...

Seem's like many people at Everquest II have left and chosen World Of Warcraft over Everquest II anyway. The thing that upset's me most is that you have to diss maybe not a great, but good game that people enjoy just leave us alone and let us have fun...

The last thing I have to say to you "Nodbody" is that if you where an Ice Cream you would be a NOOBsicle

To: World Of Warcraft fan's I look forward to the new update in the Hunter's survival talent tree the new epic dungeon... Druid feral damage increase... Along with the renewed mage invisibility that might be coming back.. Good luck have fun! I'm on the server Kargath my name is Xtarzel.

in-game wife and kids do not count!

On a serious note, I realise that not everyone likes the game, and I respect other's opinion as long as they are respectfull too. Your comment is not very respectfull. WoW is not just for kids - it is for people who like to take it easy, play 2-3 hours a day and manage to get to the top eventualy. Im not a kid, i dont have much time in between work and personal life, so i play 1-5 hours daily. I have 5 chars, one is 47, the rest are in between 20 and 30. I find this game very enjoyable and absolutely not a kiddie game. Just becaused you rushed through the game, probably missing 90% of content in the process, doesnt mean that this game is easy. It only means that its flexible enough to allow people to rush through or lay back and walk through the game slowly.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

There surely are TONS of n00bs and kids running around steal killing, whining etc. but thats the only problem I have with this game. Most of the players can't even communicate in this game, and that makes me really pissed. The game itself is decent, and has a really easy-to-use interface so it's even user friendly for n00bs and kids. I think the leveling pace is well balanced, cause I am the guy who don't wanna play a game and keep leveling forever, like most of the MMORPGs.
  • firemagicfiremagic Member Posts: 878

WoW is designed and marketed predominantly towards kids, and adults play too.

The game might have a better reputation and community if it had been designed and marketed mainly towards adults but then it wouldn't have sold as well as it did.

Though the OP obviously has a chip on his shoulder and puts his argument across disrespectfully, he's correct.

How was WoW marketed primarily towards kids?

Because of its simplicity, non-challenging gameplay and lack of depth.

Note that when I say "kids", I'm referring to people in the 13-16 age bracket although judging by the behavior of the vast majority of the community, WoW is played by many people much younger than that (but whether they're that age chronologically or just mentally is obviously impossible to ascertain).
