If GW2 only had 20 massive events with multiple paths and huge bosses, it would be worth the money. But I'd wager that it has many more massive DE battles than that. The little hamster wheel events shouldn't be a problem. After all, you can just ignore them.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

The truth is events won't really feel "world-changing" after the first few times. You aren't going to feel like stopping the centaurs every time they attack, so the "default" state of things might be overrun by monsters every time. Reclaiming it won't be a week-long battle but only a few minutes.
That won't matter though, because even in its most boring form, an event system is still better than a quest system. And fortunately, the events don't reset immediately, leaving you with plenty of time to feel accomplished if you do decide to clear them out.

I dont think that game will be 'overun by monsters' . Dont forget that most events scale, so even with few ppl lvling, they should be able to finish them . If someone starts new alt and wants it lvl in PvE he realy has only 2 options - grind or doing DE. If ppl decide its better to grind than to do DE, game will be failure.

Seriously dude, wdf are you saying? You're sounding like a troll who didn't even play the first game. Do you not remember that in GW1, after you hit cap at lvl20, max stats on lvl20 items were all the same, with only varities in design? Hell, if people felt the need to grind for sparkly lvl20 items from the underworld, then that's their problem. I know alot of people who were just fine with plain looking equipment.
ArenaNet has said there will be more progression, but it won't be so much more than the first GW. So by your definition of grinding or doing DE in GW2, I guess to you thought 2-3 days of casual 3-5 hours gametime either killings mobs or doing quests to reach level 20 in GW1 was an awful grind, huh?
If that's the case, you just don't belong playing any MMO no less any game with RPG elements, period.
GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month? Since when did society award easy-goers and lazy-fools? MAKES ME PHOBIC OF STUPIDITY!
What are you guys talking about? Nobody said DEs were going to be so hard that you'd have to "grind" instead. What would you even grind? Why is someone talking about GW1?
Please read posts (mine and otherwise) in context before ranting on tangents, both of you.

I don't think so. There will always be a group of people that repeat the same activity over and over and again to complete achievements for example. And it may be their preferred way of levelling.

Undoubtedly there will be those that decide to go for centaur-killing achievements and the like... but there's one problem. You can run out of centaurs (for a while at least). It may be more of a "do what's availble while it's available" kind of grind... something you can't focus solely on for any period of significant time.

I can easily see, especially with the RP crowd, people that will choose a town/village for their "home" and will actively defend that home whenever the centaurs (or other bad guys) decide to attack. Shoot, if you ask me, that sets up some really nice RP potential for those that like it.
Knowing ANet, I can see them seeing towns that have a high RP "base" in them deciding to sneak a new event or three in there as well to shake it up.

I dont see where i'm trolling ! And btw I have gwamm in gw1 so i know a 'bit' about game and about grind in gw1 (not that i have problem with grinding...) . Take a deep breath and read my post again, all I said is that if ppl will choose grind over DE and world will be overun by monsters game will be failure . And I stand by what I said, if main feature is unatractive gw2 will be failure. Prersonaly I dont think it will happen and I dont want it to happen.

What do you think could actually be grinded (ground? grounded?) in GW2 that isn't tied to DEs somehow?

Exactly. If there is a mob there is a DE. How can you grind without participating in a DE? There are no quest hubs, there are no random mobs. Everything is linked. I don't understand what you are imaging Malevil?
And the purpose of grinding is to get higher level to experience more content. There is no point in level rushing this game. The leveling content (aka DE's) is supposed to be the "fun" part. Your own level scales with the DE's as well. You can bump up or down with friends anytime you want. So if you "grind" content all your doing is participating and playing the game lol.
As far as we know there are random mobs in the game. People seem to be attacking random Oakhearts all the time in videos.
First, even if people as a general rule didn't do DEs, they'd just reach whatever end state they get to. Bandits and centaurs take over every village. Any single person wanting to do a DE can just go up to one of them and do one of the events to retake it. The event will scale down to 1 person or up to 10 people doing them.
That being said, I don't know why a person would want to grind random mobs in order to level. For one thing, you'd miss out on the xp/gold/karma reward for doing DEs. Second, being with people at a DE means that it scales up, which very often means more mobs spawn, and everyone gets full xp and loot rights for helping kill any mob they contribute 5% damage to.
Grinding just seems like a much slower option.

Zone maps in GW2 are dotted with individual events (quests) that can scale into DE's, often even when the individual events are resolved. The more that participate the merrier as that results in the events and the DE scaling up with resulting better rewards for it's successful completion. I think the maximum player limit for a fully scaled DE is 100 participants.
The Dev's have stated that left unchecked, individual events & DE's can scale up to actually encompass an entire zone, I expect a veritable PvE War to ensue to win the zone back sometimes. Left undealt with though, events and DE's will revert back to their starting points in a matter of days or as much a couple of weeks.
Whether or not DE's will actually cascade or result in a new DE kicking off in an adjacent area or zone remains to be seen, but think it would be cool if there is a ripple effect for what you do in one zone to the next. Hopefully player reputation and actions will effect/impact on what We face as we complete DE's and enter new areas.

Knowing the RP crowd, most of them will probably find a town without any DEs so they don't have any "disturbances" interrupting their RP sessions.
