The devs for GW2 have a good rep, and they seem to listen to the player base more than most.
GW1 didnt impress me that much, so I wasnt watching GW2 that closely, but ya, with the new PvP annoucments, looks very nice, I may end up there, but we still have PS2 comming up.
I've seen too many MMOs crash and burn that sounded great on paper to be excited for GW2. Maybe I'll check it out eventually.
That, and I'm really not digging the fact that its going to have instances. That takes me right out of MMOs. Its a shame that, when digging back up so many old good ideas, they didn't design the game properly without instancing.
I'm following its development closely and with cautious optimism. I think they've got a lot of good ideas and I liked GW enough to have some trust.
I'm not the typical bored mmorpg.com vet, though, because I don't subscribe to the "sandbox good, themepark bad" dogma. Most here do, and I can't see them being overly excited by GW2.
Most people here aren't in favor of sandbox vs themepark. They're in favor of interesting social games. Just because an MMO doesn't have instancing, or gives the players lots of options, doesn't mean its a sandbox. DAoC wasn't a sandbox game, it was an MMO. WoW... is kind of a CRPG. UO was a sandbox. DAoC was not. But at this point, modern "MMOs" are so limited, people are calling the old ones "sandbox" for some dumb reason.
We subscribe to the idea that WoW is bad, lazy design, and its success has promoted big budget games with bad and lazy design.
Plus no raids . I am on old fashioned raider. So there ya go. GW2 is probably the least excited I have ever been for an MMO. I hope it comes out and proves me wrong and we get another really good MMO after Rift and SWTOR but I am afraid people are too much from it and they will be seriously dissapointed .
On the other hand the forums will so much fun.
Here is what is confusing me. What was the point of having pve guilds in this game? The end game dungeons only give cosmetic gear that I guarantee you will be able to buy from the cash shop.
Pvp guilds it makes sense because of the WvWvW thing where you can make your e-peen bigger and nothing more pvp'rs lover then a free game because they are cheap. The game just looks weak on the pve side of it.
I think in the long run GW2 will go down as the biggest dissapointment in mmorpg history. You simply can not promise everything then talk shit on every game out there without being able to back it up.I predict the lack of meaningful end game and lag in WvWvW will make people stop playing.
You know there's a crazy concept... you could just have guilds to be social. To help one another out with getting items, crafting, friends to explore with, play games with, do things with. You don't need an OBJECTIVE just to socialize. Jesus is this what WoW has done to the genre? How far we've fallen...
But yeah, as I said, people keep saying "it sounds so good! Arenanet has a good reputation!" Well, so did Mythic, and SoE, and Turbine, and Origin, and they all pretty much failed with their second game. We'll see if this is any different. Still moronic that they have instancing...

Your joking right. You know some of the biggest asshole guilds in Aion came from Guild Wars right? When Imitatio Dei learned they had to work with other guilds to cap forts half the damn guild quit and went back to their e-peen waving.
Here you want a direct quote and it I remember it because it was so shocking.."I am going back o guild wars where my guild could run the server and we did not have to deal with other people" <---yeah REALLY looking forward to that comminity
Now you think GW2 will magically make Guild harmony? There is not a chance and WvWvW sounds like e-peen waving taken to an extreme. The inter and intra guild rivalry is going to be brutal.

When did I say anything about GW having good guilds? All I said is that the idea of guilds being useless because there's no raids is so mindblowingly backwards that it makes me want to cry. The MMO genre has fallen so far.
I too fear this weird WvWvw thing isn't going to create proper realm pride. It's set up too much like an esport. Whereas in DAoC, which they're modeling it after, you were in it for your REALM, for your country. You worked with people from other guilds, other alliances, those you'd never even met, because you weren't in it for a score, you were in it to defend your home and make life better for your people.

The point of PvE guilds is the same as in GW1 , achivements, fun and socialising. While GW1 first was made with a PvP focus, the developers was surprised how much PvE meant, and have since delivered accordingly. I will garantee you that you will not see many( if any) of the achivements you get in PvE buyable in cash shops. GW1 didn't have them.
That you say the game looks weak on the PvE side is strange to me, because everything shown until lately has been about a very solid PvE experience. I think that statements must be linked to your perception of a weak PvE endgame.
it's totally fair to not look forward to GW2 as a raider , because it lacks raids, and the geargrind connected with it. But to say GW2 lacks meaningsfull endgame because of that is not reasonable. Alot of people have enjoyed GW1 endgame. I am one of them, and I really hate geargrind with a passion, enough that I leave games when i come to that kind of endgame. puting 1500 hours in GW1 during the years, i most have some endgame eksperience
So as a fact , there is other kinds of meaningsfull endgame than geargrind and raiding. The question is offcause if the mainstream MMO player is ready to move from the fixed point of view, that there had to geargrind and raiding? To the degree that they are not, guildwars 2 wil not be the right game for them.
Buy my prediction is that there actual is a bigger market in the long run for a non grinding non raiding gameexperience. The question is if GW2 can get to that market.
i take you on that last prediction that GW2 will be the biggest dissapointment in mmorpg history and say its the other way around, GW2 will have the biggest impact on MMOs for a long time. The statement you come with about talking shit and not being able to deliver i take as momentary slip, because i can't imagine you be that ignorant .
Hyped no but excited. I hardly get hyped about new MMO releases anymore.
This.
People who hold their breath for new MMO's are either new to the genre, or they've liked MMO's which have been released lately (I would almost call this deluded, but everyone has a different opinion.)
I am a vet but I am not tired of them, just tired of the bullshit themepark WoW clones but this year looks great for innovation with GW2 and TSW, both of which I am looking forward to.
The reasons why I am hyped about GW2 the most are:
1. No raiding, which cuts out the elitist aspect that the gear grind entails, and as someone who despises raiding with a passion then this is #1 for me.
2. No Holy Trinity. Hopefully long are the days when your looking in /gchat for 1 more healer or tank.
3. Dynamic open world with no quest hubs. So sick of being told where to go and what to do when I get there.
4. Open World DAoC style World PvP. Quite possibly the only and best way to conduct PvP with 3 factions and no limits but your imagination.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.

There many games that have no raiding and still are decent MMO's . SOE had a huge success with Free Realms which has no raids. To each his own.
I love PVE challenges . What is there for me in GW2 ? Nothing I have seen so far. For other people who enjoy PVP maybe it turns out to be a great game. Good for them.
It sounds like a game for an MMO fix without the monthly subs, although it is far from anything ideal. It's on my radar, but can't really say anything about being hyped for it.
I been on the forum for a while now. Seen many post and threads from Vets, that seem to be grieving the death of the MMO genre in their eyes.
But I am curious, are any of you grieving, tired MMO vets, hyped up for Guild Wars 2?
If so, what areas of GW2 are you hyped about most?
You believe GW2 will become your new main MMO?
share with us your thoughts and feelings about the upcoming GW2 which seem to be drawing in lots of attention. Maybe this will be the MMO which finally pleases you. What you believe?
Completely hyped and excited:
1. Casual pick up play & Have fun now - I am Working man and father. I have no time for grind, raid, quest gameplay anymore
2. Hardcore twitch combat - If i have to play another tab ,1,2,3 MMO - I simply fall to sleep. This is why i couldnt even play Rift
3. Best PVP - seriously , the game combines best from DAOC, WAR and Team Fortress. Its amazing.
4. B2P - I can play when I want and how much I want. No more compulsion to play because of the sub!
Nope no intrest whatsoever in guild wars 2 will be bypassing this and also tera ,same as i have done with rift and swtor and glad i did.will stick to my old school mmo's untill i see something worth playing and suits MY play style.
The dynamic events are the only thing that really attracts me to this game. All the other features aren't what I look for in an mmo. But who knows, maybe this game will present them in such a way that I change my tune.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
I think in the long run GW2 will go down as the biggest dissapointment in mmorpg history. You simply can not promise everything then talk shit on every game out there without being able to back it up.I predict the lack of meaningful end game and lag in WvWvW will make people stop playing.
I assumed that Ncsoft Korean programmer help out arenanet and you can see it thru their graphic, gameplay and character creation.
I believe Ncsoft dev do have experience in mass pvp and they are getting better and better thru years of experience.
2. Hardcore twitch combat - If i have to play another tab ,1,2,3 MMO - I simply fall to sleep. This is why i couldnt even play Rift
Ok this is the only thing i am iffy about, i need to re-read this, because as far as i know its still tab target and 1,2,3,4 combat, just limited to skill sets.
The rest that you stated i am 100% in agreement with.
I do think that if GW2 tanks and is a smelly turd like TOR ended up. All of us who state how great DAoC RvR is we should go re-sub to that game (wont hold my breath on that).
The only real thing i'm hyped up about is GW2 and it's dynamic questing it's pretty much Theme park and the same old mechanic unless this questing brings something fresh and maybe revolutionary to the gendre.
GW2 looks very well also and I will try it ,but I am not having great hopes - I mean it will be decent game ,but not type of mmorpg that I am looking for.
Still only mmorpg in 2012 I will play propably (since AA will not come to west in 2012 for sure)
B2P -> Hours of gameplay, mmo gameplay -> bound to be a hornet's nest of players/guilds activity! And no more sub monthly bill either!!!
For the above price^: Assets: Art, Music, Lore & story ~ tons to enjoy even ignoring the gameplay
PvP Modes: Some pick n'play arena stuff and DAOC-fuelled conquer a kingdom chaos (hopefully)
Each profession (8) should have each individually some v cool-looking and v fun-using skills at the granular level. That in itself is going to be a voyage of (fun) exploration.
The DE's actually have me worried the most: The core of the themepark game. Will they be good sufficiently better than quests?
That's why I'm excited for GW2 but not falling off my chair - these just need to be good enough and the game will be a a significant leap forwards in quality and value for money. That said, and I'm not an mmo vet, a successful mmorpg sandbox with full open-pvp, criminal system, politics, permadeath, player-driven economy and destructable world etc...
I wouldnt say I'm hyped. Looking forward to it without a doubt. Hyped though? No. I dont get hyped for MMORPG's anymore since they all started seeing who could lie the best about thier product.

Not really, when it's released I'll get round to playing it, I'm only excited about Planetside 2.
When did I say anything about GW having good guilds? All I said is that the idea of guilds being useless because there's no raids is so mindblowingly backwards that it makes me want to cry. The MMO genre has fallen so far.

Dunno if im even excited about GW2 tbh....
il buy it and keep up with the expacs and it may be great but from my vantage point AA and DF2.0 hold alot more potential.
There are probably alot of details about WvWvW that are still in the dark but as is...its more than likely gonna get repetitious.
This.
