MMos to Violent

I recently read the article on China Banning major MMoRPGs with PvP or and play killing player content due to its influential ways. I personally things is just bull crap now come on people have any of u been strifed to pick of a 2 handed axe and start attacking ur friends with fire now come on.

China has made a law that children under 18 can not play any games with the PvP content or any player fighting player at all therefor WoW and other major MMos just lost some buisness. Although i know they cannot stop kids from playing its a little hard to do that since its not that easy to watch every single computer in China.
But they are banning companies from selling the games with PvP so they are basically gonna try and change MMos witch is really dumb

Now without PvP we wouldnt have anything to be addicted to sheesh and without PvP whos gonna be the best?
So think of an MMo of complete PVE and no Pking and nothing of any sort of fighting each other not even getting to fight other races towns how lame is that?
Id like to bring this up to a big topic because from what i know China is just trying to control their people any more.

Lets take a poll

Sry someone already posted this i didnt see it
well heres another one to post info on

A land of hypocrites. A government can invoke genocide by abandoning thousands of baby girls, but will ban PvP games to people under 18. Wonderful country, over there.

Not all good MMO require PVP you know, the truth is the opposite.
The best MMO are PVE, with the exception of UO and EVE and maybe WOW, and also DAOC for RVR, but the rest of PVP games are quite lame.

Having said that, blaming PVP games for violent behaviour in RL is ridicoulous.
China comunist government should think of improving its human rights, before introducing silly laws against MMO games.

its going to happen in america too, government officials hate video games. One day violence in games will be banned. Then there will be real life pk.

In america video games are used as scape goats, children who commit violent crimes go "i saw it in a video game so it must be okay" That is a lie, most children do not think that way. Its a scapegoat. Like those school shootings which was blamed on video games(if i remember correctly).

There is so much racism, gangs, murders in the usa, that video games should be the least of our concerns. The real concern is parents, they LET their kids do too much these days. I've heard of a parent buying her 9 yr old daughter GTA SA..... when asked if she knew what she was buying, she said ya, but her daughter wants it and she doesnt care.

The columbine shootings where blamed on voilent games. Because one of the shooters said in the video they made before the shootings, This is going to be like frickin Doom, bam , bam! or something similar as that.

But it's true that way to many things are blamed on the videogames. I think all those kids and people turning into maniacs, is caused be the american society, not the games that are being played there. Just look at the fucked up gun laws. I mean everyone can go into a Walmart and buy a gun and ammunition?? That's just insane!

lol, link to genocide info by Americans.  TY.  Nukes don't count, those, while tragically killing many people, saved more lives than it took away.

i don't think we're really in a position to judge china. China has a culture thats so much diffrent then we know from USA and Europe that it can't be compared. i personaly think this is because they want to stop children from playing video games. MMORPG is a very populair genre in china. thus this is a good step to the elimination of video games and get kids to get out more. its no suprise if they have the vieuw of American kids playing video games all day while eating dinner at mcdonalds (absolutely Not meant offending to any US citicen. some people have this vieuw of americans, and i'm not one of them)

i have to admit that in some MMOs having free pvp will make a few people into jerks *cough*shadowbane*cough* but i wouldnt say that anything liek that could manifest itself in the real world.

truth be told pvp is meant to be fun. the real problem is a few people who, for whatever reason decide that they want to make some else's life miserable.

once again... only my opinion, you can disagree

It's not China's choice. It's the government. I think that MMORPG's are a more tame gaming genre than most think. *Though I think that griefers are a common problem that needs to be handled.

The Philippines 1899-1902. Specifically in the Batangas and the Moro Province.

Mind you I can't name a major power that wasn't involved in anything like that.

As regards violence in MMOs, unfortunately the kind of people likely to suddenly go nuts and go around killing people are open to influence of games and movies. As usually everyone will be blamed and punished because of those few nutballs.

A good wife deserves more than half the praise, just as a bad one deserves more than half the blame. - Tacitus

I think, as said, that video games are used as a scapegoat. The government officials blame video games simply because that's what most kids do now. I can safely say that everyone in my family knows that I have enough common sense to know what qualities of a game are bad. I may sit down one day and play an FPS for 7 hours, but that doesn't make me want to go shoot someone in the face and scream "HEADSHOT!"
However, I can see where some people COULD be influenced by movies/games/music. But, it's people like that that're usually nutcases waiting to pop anyway...

They might be trying to create a complacent next generation to be sure the government will stay in power.  Who knows the real reason.  Could be anything really.  It is stupid either way.
  • Tibberon26Tibberon26 Member Posts: 34

Banning video games is becoming just ridiculious(i can't spell).  I was watching Cinematech on G4 Tech TV and it was showing clips from games that have been banned around the world.  Some of them like Wolfenstien(for showing the nazi symbol) was banned in Germany but that's understandable.  What surprised me is the last game on the list: Pokemon..yes Pokemon was banned in china because it's what the kids were always talking about.  There was an Axis and Allies clone that was banned by the "axis" countries because it gave gamers the power to "alter history."  Whoever comes up with stupid reasons like that to ban a game should be fired from whatever they were doing.

MMo's on the other hand shouldn't be banned at all.  They provide some type of getaway from the world.  Boss made you pissed at work, come home, log on to whatever mmo you're playing and take it out on computer animations. lol

LOL. The LAPD could take Greenland. The fact that they've never tried to is something you need to take into consideration before getting too critical of the States.

I dont understand why people blame video games for violence.  Lets take the Columbine shootings for example, ok in the video they made they said it's going to be like Doom, big deal.  It's not Doom#s fault they did it, for gods sake they must of already been insane.

Then you've got all these parents moaning about GTA and even Man Hunt when that kid killed his best friend, the parents blamed the game Manhunt, saying that it changed their son.  Wait a second video games dont do that there son was already freakin insane.  People just want something to blame and video games are just easy.

You either failed American History, or you are not old enough to have taken it yet. Can you say Native Americans? Yes, I thought you could.

As far as MMORPGs being too violent: People need scapegoats to cover the fact that they are not doing their jobs. It happens the world over. Especially with parents. Did you raise a messed up child that murdered several people? Blame it on rock and roll, Dungeons and Dragons, TV, movies, and video games! Never mind the fact that you never paid attention to what your child was doing, and that you let the TV babysit them, and bought them the violent video games and music. Why should you, as a parent, actually be forced to do your parental duty? Isn't it the responsiblity of others to make sure your child is exposed to good influences? image

Can you say outdated arguement? You're comparing something that happened 100 years ago to a current regime. It doesn't fly.

If you're going to go back that far you have to include: the British Empire, Napolean, the Spanish conquistadors in South America, and well basically the history of every single country in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

    WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

What does that change in your life that Chinese kids can't play PVP games?  I can only see this as a good thing to north america!

Who are chinese farmers?  Chinese children!

    What ruins MMORPGs?  Chinese farmers!

Chinese Children + Banning of PVP games in China = less chinese farmers.

Less chinese farmers = Better gaming for North America!

GO CHINA!!!  Now if they can ban MMORPG all together, we'll have less chinese farmers and a better economy in MMORPGs.

    Um... lets see.
America has done bad things in it's history.
As has every major power in the world. Bar none. You can't come up with a single major nation that hasn't done SOMETHING bad in it's past. And many have done several things that, by today's standards, would be considered "bad".

China is just one of the latest in a long string of nations worldwide that have, at one point in time or another, done something reprehensible in their lifetimes.

That said, I am getting really tired of people from other countries ranting about America like we're the world's worst enemy. We literally can't win. When the Tsunami hit everyone pissed and moaned about how we weren't donating enough even though we were providing more tangible support than any other country, including having two fleets in the area providing medical, tactical and logistical support for the whole relief program.

And when we DO get involved we get yelled at for doing it. And when we DONT get involved we get yelled at.

Personally, if I were in charge, I'd pull every US troop out of the countries we have them in, bring them all home and tell the rest of the world to deal with it's own problems. I'd stop sending foreign aid around the world and I'd deal with our own internal poverty and other issues.

That's just me though. I'm just sick and tired of people around the world, Americans included, constantly pointing the finger at each other as if they don't have any skeletons in their own closets.

Let's work on our reading comprehension, boys and girls! Nobody said anything about any country being skeleton free. Someone merely commented that they thought America was, and I simply pointed out the most well know instance of genocide by Americans. There was no time limit imposed, nobody stated it had to be in the last 50 years.

So, it flies, Chieftan. It flies like a bird. Can you say "owned"? Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, sparky.
