guild wars 1 sold six million so expect at least the same amount sold for guild wars 2.
I love GW but let's be clear that 6 million includes its expansions and boxes sold for people who wanted more slots (before they introduced a cash shop and let people buy more slots - gasp, the people actually wanted a cash shop.)
Funny thing now that I think about it. GW1 didn't have a cash shop for some time until after release. They sold people things they wanted like extra character slots and more bank space. Eventually they gave us the material bank slot. I love that material bank.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
If it doesn't sell at least twice as many as SWTOR its a failure.
if BW removes the monthly fees SWTOR becomes the second mammoth of mmos. Since GW2 dont have monthly fees i have my hopes taht place is reserved for ANET.
Note i said the second mammoth. WoW is still the first mammoth

I can see GW2 selling 1-2million is the first month. I do not see any mmorpg being able to get more than that even SWTOR sold 2million in the first month. Wow was able to sell 4million units in its first year. Their are not to many people willing to invest in a mmorpg. PC gaming will not be more popular than console gaming anytime soon. Maybe after people see the next generation of consules will PC gaming may become more popular.
As far as GW2 being a failure if it does not sell more than SWTOR their is not way to determine that yet. We do not know how much money Arenanet/NCsoft are spending on that GW2 or how much money they will make in the cash shops. I expect 30% of GW2 playbase to use the cash shops just like the DConline players when it became f2p.
It cost Blizzard 100million to produce wow and 50million a year for upkeep during the first 4 years of wow (http://www.1up.com/news/world-warcraft-cost-blizzard-200m). Blizzard said that the game would be considered a sucess if it only had 500,000 players by the end of the first year :P (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI2oieLb60k). Even thought wow is slowly losing alot of its playbase it will still be here just like EQ. Some players have invested so much time into the game that they will not consider leaving it. Wow keeps inventing new things to stop it players from becoming to bored, but the players that finally leave wow will not comeback to it.

I have been monitoring sales on steam for quite a while and it looks like it's still alive and kicking. Of course we don't know how many copies are sold each day, but you can see an obvious trend in the steam community. If that's any indication on how GW2 could do on release, I'd say it's first week will be impressive. Remember, the steam community is not really known for playing MMOs, but represents a portion of the pc gaming community.

I use steam and plenty of friends I know use steam and play MMO's also we all are buying GW2, so I'm not sure how you follow your logic that the steam community isnt known for playing MMO's.

It's quite simple: MMOs rarely take the spot of global top sellers.

If they include the Asian market then around 300.000 to 600.000 at first week
500-600K
...ok...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
I`ll bet it`ll be over 9000!
No seriously i bet anything they`ll do very well.

Another thing to remember, GW2 launches also in Korea, TOR did not iirc.
In its lifetime it will probably sell over ten million boxes/clients.
GW1 is just over 8 million now.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
It strongly depends on how well the beta goes. If it is a laggy and buggy mess: expect less than a million.
I find it amusing how the "14 trillion" got the most votes just because it's the most stupidest prediction .
To make this poll far more realistic u would change the ranges to something like:
<500,000
1m
2m
3m
4m+
Looking forward to EQL and EQN.
What?

i would guess around a mill, i realy doubt they will match swtor advertisement and ip to sell more copies then em.

My MMo freinds are into guild wars but non of my non MMO video game friends are.
I agree with this, 3.9million is a total failure.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

Where is the "I have no idea" option?
My theme song.
All I can say for certain is that they will at least sell 1 copy

You offer no choices below 2 million copies. Which is insane.
I don't think GW2 will sell anywhere near that many copies in the first week.
Devs:- We're happy with over a million... WE REACHED A MILLION *makes a video of the team celebrating*
Fanboys:- 1million collectors editon, 14 trillion normal and 7 of them were mine and I use the spare to clean my bodily fluids after playing the game.
Haters:- less than a million but the same will suck and no-one will subscribe...
Me:- I think it'll start with 2million max and grow from there.
