Yeah I'm back but only to delete my account permanently. Not only am i banning mmorpg from my traffic I'm banning them from sending me emails. Take this as what happens when you go ban crazy (stomp on freedom of speech).

I've spent so much time chasing mmoprg releases over the last decade that I've missed a whole slew of killer single player games... like, I'm talking about going all the way back to 2001.

I'm playing some Civ 4, some Hero's of Might and Magic 4, Total War, Oblivion, and even some MORROWIND with the MGE mod. Fucking amazing. This little mod just brings that whole game to life, I don't know how those kids did it.

I'M ACTUALLY ENJOYING GAMING AGAIN lol.

Not all stressed out trying to find a group, getting called a noob every 2 minutes, or listening to how every little feature of a certain game is a "total failure".

The BS rhetoric surrounding MMORPG's is toxic. Fuck all of it.

    Later's!

Sounds like a thempark player. You should have played Sandbox MMO's. At least there you can kill people who annoy you.

Either way he's right the communities in these games have become toxic as have the little communities like this or on other forums. Too many people trying to be E-hardasses and leet-dudes. Half the time the discussion looks like the chat in a FPS, or console game.

Because most of them ARE from FPS and console games!

What's sad is that I've enjoyed all the games mentioned (single player) AND pretty much every major MMO since 1996.  Time management is your friend.

Calling everyone a-holes in the title is a start.

I see where OP is coming from but think he/she is overreacting a bit to much. I probably don't experience what OP experiences since the only online game I play is Guild Wars which is a CORPG and not a lot of people talk in the general chat unless if they are having a conversation with someone else in the area.

I don't think I've ever seen spoilt bratty kids in Guild Wars but I do see the odd troll.

Our community may be so quiet because we have so many hardcore PvPers who just want to dominate in RA and JQ.

Wasted too many years with MMORPGS. Bye bye a-holes!

Search your feelings man!and use those powers to your own advantage!

join to a game where you can kill those "a-holes" and turn your anger for a taste of blood!

i recommend WoW,you will hear allot of  weird talk, then when your aggrometer score is  666 or more, just smack axe into someones head,i like every race and class, every head feels just as good! well maybe gnomes are my favorite prey.

    100% satisfaction guaranteed!

If you run out of aggro ,you can allways visit WoW forums and gain some more aggro for free!

Quote 'Bye bye a-holes!'  If thats how you talk to people I am not surprised they calling you names every two minutes.

Farewell, I don't know how the mmo industry and its gamers will cope without you.  One way, perhaps, is that we could have an hours silence in your memory.

Such a sad loss :(, see you in guild wars 2 then!

From the title and his tone? when you start your topic with 'by bye a-holes' please pardon me if i fail to see any maturity in that.

LOL... This thread is pure comic gold! About 60% of the replies in this thread are supporting the OP's argument by being the exact type of community the OP is complaining about. It's so good of all of you to prove his points for him! image

if you had fun playing then time wasn't wasted.

since when is having fun a waste of time?

games are for fun, rl jobs are for money so that we can then go back to having fun. so it's simple, if it's fun then play it. when it stops being fun and it feels more like work then stop playing.

Personally, I see it very much like so many other "I quit!" threads where the poster isn't content to just leave, but must share their rage and disappointment with everyone else.  Maybe they find it cathartic.  I don't know because I just move on to something else withour fuss and fanfare.  Posts like these are, in my opinion, childish.  More akin to a 3 year old's behaviour than a 13 year old actually.

I left WoW for exactly the same reasons the OP listed, so I understand his perspective.  I just never felt the need for the group therapy.

I think you underestimate the sheer power of a MMORPG.com group forum hug for those feeling a little low...I mean look at all the people that cared enough to reply to his swan song, he must be glowing with warm fuzzy sad goodbyes now and you dare scoff at the 'I Quit" posts.

This thread sorts the men from the boys doesnt it?

Hopefully the kiddies that are so negative in reply may just grow up an inch or two, then again, likely not lol

Fail this, troll that, I didnt know IQ's went negative these days...

MMO's are a co-operative experience, I think that type of game playing is nearly completely lost in the younger generation and is likely the big problem here, they seem to see other players as competition, not as potential group mates working for the greater good of their faction in an MMO.

Er, you seem to have missed the irony of the OP being exactly like the community he was railing against.

I think we need to take this lesson to heart and spread the love all around.

Were mostly helpless people who have no home ( mmo ) to go to so we at least should console and support each other.

So instead of whining why dont we all take a step back and take the correct step forward of hugging each other.

Dont look at me like that! Ilost track of what i was talking about after the first line!

Some of  the best friends of my life I met playing Everquest.  It was a game designed to bring people together to make us need each other and trust each other, build relationships with each other.

15 years later 80% of my everquest guild still talk to each other on the phone at least once a week, email or text each other almost every day, exchange xmas, and birthday cards, and presents, and get together any chance we get.

Few months ago we  had a guild reunion in the keys for a week, everyone pitched in and we rented 2 really nice vacation homes in Key West.

Lol we even trade kids for the summer sometimes, last summer my hubby and I took 6 of our guildies kids to Disney and Universal  for a week.

MMO communities aren't like that any more, no need for others, no team work, no trust or commitment to each other.

    Kinda sucks

Seriously agree with this. I became such good friends with guildmates in EQ1 that they came from Europe to the US to visit me. We still talk all the time, and soon I am going to go visit them. This was a real community, and it built *real* friendships.

I had it to a lesser degree in WoW, in the beginning, but no game since. People solo, trying not to group as much as humanly possible, and when they do group, they don't talk. I still make friends in games where I guild, but it's definitely not like it was in the past.

You can never go back it seems, which sucks....

Sadly, I came to gaming a little to late to enjoy that kind of community; it sounds wonderful.  Despite being a late-starter though (around 2004, I think), I did at one point run a great guild on an RP server in WoW, and I still keep in touch with people I became friends with then.  Also, I'm still in touch with a guy from the very first mmo I played (Kalinline lol).  What both of you describe above though sounds amazing and I'd love to be part of that kind of gaming community.
