Players starting to leave WOW.........

Hi all,

Was just wondering if players had noticed a decrease in numbers over the past
couple of months? Was in the popular ,"The Church" guild which consisted of some
100 players only to find out of late they have all mostly moved on.
Was also noticing the graph dropping on the mmo's chart for some time aswell.
China is a new market but is seperate from it's "western" counterpart so I hope
it doesn't end up like AO with a big following only in South Korea. Anyway if anyone
has information to pass on pls tell, thanks.

I haven't noticed any players leaving the game. Infact I think more players are joining it. My server seams to get more and more new players (And longer wait times) each day. Blizzard also keeps announcing new player milesstones, latest 3.5 million.

    Hi Phoenixs,

Sorry if I sound a little critical but I was looking for players
with some real information as I have noticed in other posted messages you
always give glowing reports for WOW and was wondering if perhaps you
may be working for them. I would like to thank you for your message though
but would prefer an unbias approach, thanks.

a renew of gamer population is mostly normal in all MMorpgs existent. As for WoW, no, i do not see any drop in population... on the other hand i saw a rise.

WoW has been constantly on the top 10 most sold games for 26 weeks consecutivly now in the UK, it is number 3 overall and number 2 PC games sold in Finland for last month, and my server, Argent Dawn, has started getting queues in the most populous evening hours... So... nope i do not see lack of players just yet

"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"

  • No bodys leaving the game why would they? Its the best mmorpg on the market as it stands. One guild leaving isnt that big a deal, why dont you play it and find out for yourself?

  • firemagicfiremagic Member Posts: 878

Before I finally left after seven months, I noticed that populations were rising, but most of the people I'd got to know in the game had left or were planning to leave soon.

This can be attributed to what I call the "McDonalds effect". The place is always full, but no-one really hangs around for long except the fat people.

The PvP system killed WoW's potential. If they'd implemented a system that involved actual skill (ie - your win/lose percentage actually meant something), people would have a reason to improve their characters and get items other than the vacuous "who is the most 1337" competition.

hi, not sure if ppl are leaving or just cutting back on play time once they hit lvl 60, or like myself, i have 9 toons. i made lvl 60 on my mage now i play him a bit to get items for my alts and work them up in teams of 2 at a time for 3 to 5 lvls depending on there lvls. so i have 2 lvl 10, 2 in the 20's 2 in the 30's, 2 in the 40's and my 60. i have 3 in 1 guild, 2 in another guild and 1 in a guild, rest guildless.

    Hi enemymind,

I need, as stated before, players who aren't bias but present the simple
facts. That means taking off the rose colored glasses and fine tooth reading
the PR presented to us by BLIZZARD whose interest is to promote their own
    product.
Yes I have played and just recently renewed my membership and as a result
noticed a sharp drop off in players. There are players in Ironforge, etc.,. but now not
so much in the wider areas where there was once an abundance of characters.
I have played on a couple of servers Lightbringer and Blackrock but they are not the
same numbers as in the glory days regardless of what BLIZZARD props up. Thanks
for the post though just need real comments but thanks all the same.

    Welcome,

The following pre-requisites are required to qualify as a free beta tester for WOW's
    upcomming expansion:-

    * Must be aged between 6 and 12 years of age.

    * A solo player not adaptable to conversations or group playing.

    * A horde character as to balance out the huge differences in alliances.

    * Familarity with, "Warner brothers" cartoons.

    * Limited or no experience with other games involving strategy or tactics.

    * A sense of fair play when involved in PVP as to not, "Grief" your fallen foe
who is say 20 levels lower than your own character.

    * Moniter brightness adjuster as to tone down the glaring color schemes.

    * Ability to reduce words to 3 letters only, ie Got, Boy, Bad, Yep, etc.,.

    * Emphahsis on journey rather than destination, as this expansion still does not
    address high end content.

    * Able to suspend judgement as to pretend you really are the only, "Hero" making
a difference amongst the other million or so that have vanquished the evil vermin
    over and over.

If you feel you have what it takes in regards to the above criteria then do not
hesistate to email us at the following address wowcommwatch@blizzard.com.

    hi,

I am considering buying WOW but have heard some bad press of late.
Is it true that the community consists of 12 year olds that often,
"grief" there fellow players? Surely trhis cannot be entirely true and
only represents a small percentage of players maybe.

Also I heard there is little if anything to do once you get to level
60 except farm for your mates and run around showing your uber
sword. Hope this is not the case since it takes some time to get there.

I heard the graphics rock but some say they look like a bad imitation
of a warner brothers,"bugs bunny" cartoon. Hhhhmm was looking so forward
to playing this popular game please persuade me otherwise, thanks.

    Hi to one and all,

Over the past few years I have had some difficulty falling asleep
and often wake many times durring the night. I started taken a mild
medication to trigger deep sleep with some mixed results.

Though this may sound coincidental but since I have started playing
EVE I have slept like a baby without any interruptions. I could not place
my finger on why but thought it may be due to looking at the same space
backgrounds for hours on end. Also I find looking at still pictures of
player characters quite effective in lowering my eyelids and triggering deep
sleep. Another plausible reason could be starring somewhat hypnotically at
an asteriod for ages while I mine it. Anyway I have ceased taking medication
and feel completely refreshed the next day, kind regards.

After playing some 2 months of WOW I noticed my moods swinging from excitment to downright misery.
Unfortunately the misery was starting to predominate and I thought it would be wise to seek medical help.
The doctor suggested prozak to lift me out of the blues and asked if there was any depression in my family. I said no as both parents were extremely positive people and then he enquired as to my present circumstances. The only change in my life was that the misery seemed to manifest more when I played WOW.He couldn't see the conection but when I explained the remoresless amount of similair quests in the game he then told me to immmediately stop playing. I didn't take the medication and stopped playing WOW and have found happiness once again.Hope this helps anyone out there, take care.

    Hail to one and all,

I remember going on camp with some new friends once. We went mountain climbing
the first day, though physically challenging, but had an awesome time looking at the
land stretch before us. One of my friends mentioned the views were average and was
it really worth the effort. Then we went bike riding had a ball but again my friend mentioned
it was really boring without mentioning any further commments. We also packed in
a game of paintwars, myself paying all the expenses of the gun hire, paint, etc.,.
Like a broken record my "friend" again mumbled that it was boring and a waste of time.
Time-and-time again after each event he would routinely comment that it was "boring".
After some questioning he revealed that he watched alot of TV and felt people should
do things for him without him having to put much, if any effort into anything. I was just
wondering if he was now playing the enjoyable AO and had made those comments in the
    forum, kind regards.

    Hi

I just luv WOW and play any spare time I have available. Since I devote
so much time to it I am seeking a nice girlfriend to join forces with where
we can share special moments, (er pls pls pls no Undead/Orc/Troll female looking
    character).

I have to admit in real life I am not the sharpest tool in the shed and have a
small "break-out" of pimples on my chin but otherwise just a regular guy and
can spel quite well. . My lvl 47 pally has long blonde hair and wears shiny
armour. The problem I have is after teaming up for about 10 minutes with a female
looking player they say they are under 16 years of age and dont wish to be my
girlfeind. Is there any players in WOW who are OVER THE AGE OF 16. Pls help as
I am becoming more desperate, kind regards.

I've noticed a number of people who've left for their previous game, such as SWG, Eve, EQ2 etc, have recently returned. Mostly I think this is attributable to a soft market atm.

I'm not working for Blizzard, lol. I'm just reporting about my experiences with Wow. If I don't post any negative comments does it mean that I work for that company?? And this post wasn't a glowing report of Wow and none of my other have been (atleast I have tried to keep my posts to a nice level, no wow fanboyism).

Bliz keeps adding new servers. This should give u and idea on whats going on with population.

Also, tank, just becuase someone is defending, or is known to defend WoW doesnt make his opinion invalid. As long as that person provides you with valid information or logic. I play several games, and I defend them all whenever I see a post saying "this is bad or that is bad", but I try to give my reasoning based on my experience and fact. I dont just say "WoW rules" or "EQ2 is best of the MMORPGs". So if you want to hear a constructive argument, you should listen to anyone who explains it to you why it is so or why it is not so. disregarding people who like playing a certain game (also known as fanbois) is disregarding about 90-95% of playerbase, because realy, everyone is more or less a fanboi.

Thanks for thread but think you are falling into the mistake shooting the messanger
and not responding to the message. You went into some detail about yourself but
didn't once mention anything useful to the numbers dropping off in WOW. This thread is
actually trying to help people make vaild choices so if you do have anything

I left the game about a month ago..can you say battlegrounds.  I found the game fun and first but then it became just the same grind of doing the same thing over and over again.  I think that this is a great game to play for a few months, then it is time to find another game.  I myself went back to SoR.

I wanted you to come to the conclusion yourself, but I guess you wanted me to say it. Ok, WoW population is not gong down because Blizzard is adding new servers. New servers means current servers are still getting overloaded with population, whether old or new players. So bliz is making new servers to spread the population thinner.

And Im sorry if you thought I was trying offend you or anything ("shoot the messenger"). I hope my information is constructive enough. If you need information to very my facts, please go to www.worldofwarcraft.com and read their news on new server(s) (there were 2 in the last 1-2 months that I know of, maybe more).

    Hope this helps.

    Peace

Pre battle grounds I had seen a large number of people leaving some of the PVP servers. Since then it has seemed pretty steady, if not increased on some servers. It is also possible a lot of people in your guild moved onto other guilds, I have seen that happen in a few that I have been in.

It's funny tank, you're asking a simple question that is being answered in a variety of ways by different people, but it's obvious at this point you only want ONE answer. If all you want to hear is people say "yes, you're right! everyone is leaving the game!" then I think you'll have to go somewhere else.

I don't see it either, and I'm not a big WoW player by far. I just know what I see and what I don't. And I've seen more players then ever in-game =b

This is probably the most accurate analysis I have read. The game tires very quickly and there is no long term benefit to playing as was seen in EQ1. Being a simple as it is, WoW can only maintain its numbers by further sales outside of the US. The huge increase in subscribers is from China. I believe that the US subscriptions has plateaued and will continue to decline. Don;t get me wrong, WoW is a fun game, bt so was Battleship when I was a kid, I can't play it any longer.

Whoa! They are adding servers even though there are many many low pop. ones i.e Spirestone et al. Their logic is flawed. Look at the recent server transfers, allowing medium pop servers to transfer to high pop ones? Are you kidding?

I would think they are allowing transfers to ease the load on high pop servers. What makes you think otherwise?

Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb during X-Play (If you have G4Tv channel) announced during E3 that WoW now has 3.5 million players playing worldwide.

A few months ago, my server (Feathermoon) was typically at low population. Lately it's been creeping up - medium, then high, and now most nights it has a login queue. Could just be my server, but that would imply more players are playing on it. I'm on a US server, so the Asian launches shouldn't be impacting my server population.

From what I've read on their forums, there is a great deal of misery going on now concerning the recent realm transfers. They actually halted Frostwolf to Frostmane because of this exact problem. I think WoW's administrators are absolutley lost.

I used to play on Spirestone and switched to Feathermoon myself. Found out my longtime guild from other mmorpgs had gone there.

Noticed a drop in players, not really, not overall. Have tons of folks left? Yup. Me included. And every single one of my guild-mates, and literally every single MMORPG player I know. We all came, tried, and left after a few months. That would be, in my little microcosm of the world, about 150 people and therefore 150 subscriptions.

The key to subscriber base is for the incoming to outnumber the outgoing. And no, this isn't a slam on the game, so don't take it that way. It's simply a statement of fact. We tried it, to a person we didn't like it, and we left. I'm not going to get into reasons why we didn't like it, that's irrelevant to the topic.

I think WoW is going to be fine... for about a year. My prediction is that that massive start-up base signs on more or less immediately or within a few months. You get a few months of play, they come to their own conclusions... and my prediction is that you'll see a very sizeable drop in the number of subscriptions by this time next year.

I would rather have EQ1's consistent 400,000-500,000 subscriber base for 6 years than a million subscribers for one year and then plummet to nothing thereafter (don't think it'll drop that far, but I would be utterly shocked to see a number in the U.S. over a few hundred thousand by then). Don't know that's going to happen, any more than anyone else can say it won't -- the future is just that, the future, and an unknown as far as certainty goes. The rest is just opinion. And that's mine.

And, folks? The game's a success. Even if it fell to 200,000 consistent subscribers, it would still be a success, just like those games that live in that area or have more than that.
