I don't know if anyone else has seen this video but i found it to be a refreshing feature for the mmo genre.

Other games have done it. SWTOR has datacrons.

I do like the feature but i think they will make the mistake that these hidden areas are all in the open world. It would be cooler to come across an instance (mini dungeon) with these kind of puzzles and after you complete it the entrance to it moves to some other random out of the way location. This would make exploring alot more fun and easy for a-net to add more.

I am actually surprised a mmorpg has a feauture which has existed in single player games for 35 years; platforming.

sorry but it's nothing like datacrons. it's a jumping puzzle that leads to a boss encounter.

I remember platforming in WAR.  It was actually kinda interesting.

Jumping puzzles have been in other MMOs recently, but nothing as sweet as this. This one looks like real work was put into it and if there are a ton like it, that will be pretty awesome.

Its a jumping puzzle with a prize at the end...How is it nothing like datacrons. Cause they stuck a mini boss in it?

It's a jumping puzzle that leads to a reward. Really does not matter if it's a datacron, a miniboss or a chest or a combination of all. Yes they are fun, I hope there's a lot of these in GW2, and I hope not each of them have (only) a miniboss at the end.

I have to disagree. Datacrons require an aspect of exploration and going off the beaten path in order to find them (if you dont check guides to find them of course). These open world hidden areas in GW2 are very much like how you seek out datacrons. I think Rift also had this type of element as well, where you would come upon a puzzle and solve it for a reward. It may not be as complex as the sort of jumping puzzle in the video, but it does share similarities.

I like these sorts of things in MMO's though. I like the idea of discovering something hidden and getting rewarded for it. A nice boss encounter adds to the fun, in my opinion.

when i first heard of these i thought of Rift.  Rift had a puzzle you could find in almost every zone.  They also had mounds you could find, and artifacts hidden up on hill sides.

    I've got the straight edge.

Rift had puzzles you solved... it didn't have these kind of hazardous puzzles that require platforming and force you into combat along the way, or at the end.

What has this got to do with jumping puzzles? Does trials of Atlantis have them? If so, are they fun?

oh i know, it just made me think of rift.  i like that games are looking into ways to get people to explore again.

I love that there are traps and hope that they have dynamic objects to them. Say a swinging chandelier you have to cross or better yet, set in motion.

I love the adventure aspect of these but the downside is once they hit the Wiki..it kind of takes the adventure of discovering them away. If your like me of course and just cant help yourself :)

That just might be the best quote.  not to mention this guys voice is ideal for commentary.

They were neat in WAR, but they rarely had anything at the end of them. Two I found had bosses, one of them led to a strange world in the Inevitable City, and everything else led me off the map, out of the world, and into endless randomly generated terrain.

Actually, there was one in Rift that I ran into where you had to jump up these platforms on the side of a cliff. It didn't have traps or anything, but if you fell off, you could die... and I did :-/

There is a datacron in Mos Ila on Tat that reminded me of Super Mario Sunshine haha. I like it when mmos do this type of thing. WAR, Rift, TOR, and now GW2. The platforming genre needs some love. Good news all around :)

Actually that is how ONE of the 70+ work in SWTOR. Some require multiple people and teamwork among other things.

Anyone know how many of these are in GW2?
