I don't mind buying a little something every month or so if Arena Net actually makes an amazing game.

The way i see it the more revenue they get the better they can make future games and xpacs.

THE EVEN OFFICIALLY STATED THAT IT'S ABSOLUTELY OUT OF QUESTION any kind of P2W model, they're even planning beta event just to test what transactions are people okay with!!

And what they receive as feedback from players??

One flame thread after another about how GW2 is going to be a P2W crap, how they lied to us all the time and how greedy they are

Poor Arenanet...honestly if I were developing passionately this game for few years and receive such feedbach, I'd probably lose all the passion immediately....

Yeah basically right. The morons who should just guzzle some clorox read a small part of the release and focus in on that. Not where he states clearly this will not be pay to win.

So you can't loot comparable items or trade these ?

If yes, you can use gems to trade for them. If no, I'm beginning to wonder what the player economy will be about besides obviously gems.

Omg, now you get all those ppl who confuse the two, ugh.

the outrage is because people think this somehow makes it p2w. this is simply not the case. without god tier items (GW2 will not have a gear grind if you recall) there is no pressing urge to get the next best thing. in fact, i would say there isn't going to be "the bestest weapon" since it all depends on your play style.

There will be exp potions correct? And a higher level will have an advantage over a lower level, right?

In other words a player can buy himself to higher level faster than someone who does not buy exp potions, effectively paying to win. Unless someone is going to claim that levels does not matter in this game.

You're confusing this with WoW where a level 80 player can easily crush a level 79 player due to nothing more than gear disparity.  In GW2, this disparity is almost non-existent.  Even a level 10 player could possible beat a natural 80 if they were skilled enough.  It's just not likely.  I won't even bother explaining the flat levelling curve and how gaining levels isn't the barrier it has been manufactured to be in other games.

Haven't you been paying any attention to the explanations of the systems that have been out there for months and years?  Or perhaps you're just redefining reality to suit your dispostion.

P2W is a canard.  Detractors are cleaving to it because they're quickly running out of flotsam to buoy up their specious arguments.  This will sink too.  Unfortunately, the rest of us will probably have to put up with this nonsense until the game releases.  Not that the bitter yammerings will stop, but we'll be too busy playing to bother with them.

So you can't loot comparable items or trade these ?

If yes, you can use gems to trade for them. If no, I'm beginning to wonder what the player economy will be about besides obviously gems.

Theres another thread going around where I'm pretty much said the same thing, outside of cooking crafting is also just unique skins. I can't see there being a large player driven economy based on reskins when there are so many other alternative ways of obtaining unique skins, outside that one you feel you must have.

Most of the concerns arise from ignorance.   I speculate that once everyone has a chance at the beta and really sees how much FUN this game is and how the item shop CANNOT affect gameplay...then this issue will be moot.

Looking forward to seeing you all in game.  :)

I don't see any "overwhelmingly" negative feedback. Some people complain, some like it and most don't care. It's perfectly natural that people have different opinions and even the most negative ones (apart from the usual paid shills and ignorant trolls) voice only cautinary concern rather than outright hate and rejection.

    I really don't see where's the problem.

My thoughts exactly. Imo ANet people are too smart to fall into "blackmail your customers" trap as those pathetic P2W failures which gave RMT such a bad rep.

The RMT market is now almost mature. It's been proven time and again is that the surest way NOT to earn money through RMT is to make the purchases compulsory in an underhand way - in essence to blackmail your players into spending money. The best way to make money is to make RMT truly optional and the game so enjoyable that the players are factoring their support of the game and its developers into their purchases. In short - a happy customer who regards you as a friend with a shared interest (the future of the game) is much more likely to give you money than the one who feels cheated and blackmailed. Duh.

Its pretty much the same system many F2P games have been using for many many years, its nothing special that Anet are beginning to the scene.

Worst dealings with a game using this system i can remember is probably Jade Dynasty (Or any PWE game), sellers started off at reasonable prices but after many months and the minority 'couple' who got high lvl fastest and earning the most where willing and of course able to offer alot more gold for cash shop currency than alot of the others playing, leading to the point where only these people could afford to buy from sellers. The game is to the point now where sellers want more per cash shop currency than the in-game trade system allows(caps), so most things are directly sold through trades and the in0game system isn’t used. And of course there games have very P2W cash shops.

Of course the system has advantages and disadvantages in my opinion, but hey its the best system really to allow all access to your cash shop (Unless you use a system like LOTRO which allows you to earn cash shop currency from game achievements).

Its good because it allows people who start the game and keep up with the level curve of the higher lvl players / gold earners to be able to access the cash shop without ever needing to spend anything.

But its also bad for players joining the game many months later, as they need to grind gold for many weeks/months before there able to get there first cash shop currency with in-game gold.

With this system i think its kind of essential that you join the game from the start (Or new server start) if you want the advantages of this kind of system, because older players are always going to be able / willing to pay more for cash shop currency than any new player.

I never said anything about the token items, but I'm not quite sure what your point is either. I am taking this as your telling me I am wrong. If this is so then why does. This http://www.arena.net/blog/personality-in-guild-wars-2

Actually, I recall reading the internal memo from CCP last year and their research proved that items of power were likely to be the most sought after in a cash shop, the trick was to not alienate the rest of the community. While I don't think they'll ever try it in EVE it was obvious they were going to try to incorporate them in the new WOD title.

So never say never. Remember, once they have your box price you have little sway over them, you can't even cancel your sub to vent your displeasure. Sure, you can avoid buying the next expansion, but hey if they can find something to sell to the player base at 25 bucks a pop like WOW's vanity mounts they won't even miss you.

People see what they want to see, by and large. And if pay to win is what those people see when they see what Anet is doing, frankly, I want them to avoid the game.

Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Duh.

Could be, but the crowd can turn ugly on a dime... Just look at Allods, which is a decent F2P wow clone totally destroyed by its ugly RMT policies. Once the game gets the reputation its pretty much done. While GW2 does seem like a holy grail right now, lets not delude ourselves - there are plenty of other games out there. The market has grown and there is a lot of games to choose from, especially cosidering all the promising new releases (it seems the mmo industry has finally got its thumb out of its ass,  jeez, about time). It's not like ANet is the only drug dealer in town lol.

Except 'almost any' item that can be bought with karma can be purchased with gold, I'm not sure where this karma stuff can only be bought with karma came from.

    From Guild Wars 2 Wiki:

Almost everything which is attainable by using karma is also purchasable using coin.[1]

the word almost comes to mind hmmmm

and please please don't try to convince people next that somehow token items can be purchased with gold that would be even more ridiculous

I never said anything about the token items, but I'm not quite sure what your point is either. I am taking this as your telling me I am wrong. If this is so then why does. This http://www.arena.net/blog/personality-in-guild-wars-2

    Say this:

Well, have no fear because the most rewarding NPCs will, as an alternative, also sell their services for some gold if you haven’t developed your personality or earned enough karma.

    /Facepalm

You know he was talking about being able to get things from NPCs and vendors by developing your "personality" in your personal story right? Not any "epic gear" vendor, more like random farmer selling pies.

But what if you don’t want to read flowery language and pick from a lot of dialog? What if you just want to simply kill everything and hand in some heads for a reward? No problem! We understand that not everyone wants to hone their interpersonal skills with NPC banter, but we recognize they don’t want to miss out on all the benefits either. Well, have no fear because the most rewarding NPCs will, as an alternative, also sell their services for some gold if you haven’t developed your personality or earned enough karma. And if you truly don’t want to be bothered reading at all, we make clear the shortest path through a conversation so you can get back to the fighting.

And what does he use as an example of what you could get from this type of vendor? Strength-granting pie or a jar of bees to throw at you enemies.image

I dint read anything about a IWIN button for cash ? Blasphemy !!! wont be buying GW2 anymore !!

Seriously they sell 1 item that can be traded for items or ingame gold, what do you wanne buy with gold ?

Mats for crafting ? - i can farm that myself

Gear with minimal stat gains ? i can farm that myself

Expensive cosmetic stuff ? i can BUY that myself

So tell me how is this microsystem effecting my daily gameplay again ?

I dont and wont get roflstomped by rich scrubs buying stuff and earning massive amounts of ingame gold.

PvP in GW2 is on even ground /grin

Minimal stat diffrence in all gear sets wich shows Anet want balanced PvP not PtW pvp.

So in the end i realy dont care if some1 buys shit for 1000 euro and mae ingame money.

OP, trust me, they can handle this, this is not called business for nothing...

Imagine all the hate threads all over the MMORPG forums around the globe when first public beta test begins... then, especially at 1st launch day....when the game actually dont meet cosmological expectations of naysayers...

This is still joke comparing to what will come. So brace yourselves, the forums doomsday is upon us imageimageimage

EDIT: i wouldnt wish to be in their skins IMO. At this point, i would threw monitor through the office window, if i am at their place.

Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2
    Waiting for: Pathfinder Online

The only sad thing is that it will ruin their ingame econnomy.... and that prices will rise beyound anything ever imagined... and that pleyers that hunt for gold and dont buy gems can never pay the outrages prices... but then that does not matter as you can find top gear enough from drops and dungeons.

    Maybe not.

The fact is that  gem and gold are still two system, you cannot flash the game with extra gold for real money. The only way in any game I know to flash "extra" gold into a game is by gold farming. I think this system can actually prevent gold farmer to a certain level.

You will always have that, the haters, people crying about this and that....etc......... Its sad, but unfortunately thats the way it is nowdays. Only smart and right thing to do is to ignore them. Let them bitch if they like it, rest of as will enyoy in a great games and have fun like its supposed to be. Because, it was the idea in a first place when games started to come out, to have fun and enyoy, to run from hard reality we call life.
