Granted I cancelled my swtor sub a while ago. But it strikes me as odd that you people are so judgemental over something that hasn't even been released yet.
You make assumption on assumption on assumption and make yourselves look like stereotypical trolls and whistleblowers.
You could at least have the decency to wait and see how something pans out. The idea that someone cancelled over something as trivial as a smuggler being able to choke someone is pathetic. In a series that has had force sensitives in non-stereotypically jedi/sith archetypes for years.
In short. I'm entertained, not by bioware(I think they have an interesting idea), but by you forum posters.
Explain to me how allowing an agent access to force choke isn't unbalancing. 1.2 may be the patch, usually it takes an expansion, that runs me off.
All aboard the QQ train, for a system they literally are just about to release it seems like most of you were expecting something HUGE. They set the framework of the system down, its there, and the future patches should build upon those things. I have realistic expectations and I knew what to expect from the patch that implements legacy, plus its not like this is at all shocking news, the legacy info leak has been out for weeks now. In addition, those heroic skills have like a 30 minute cooldown or something of the like, hardly game breaking. I will probably sub for the month 1.2 comes out, and if nothing new comes within a month, I'll do what normal humans do and unsub and wait for another patch. I honestly hope that MMORPG keeps doing these SWTOR pieces just because it clearly aggravates a vocal majority on this site. It's pretty great.
You really don't understand do you?
Who the frag cares about how long a cooldown those epic abilities have.
The point is that they give NON-Force users access to FORCE powers! Totally and utterly retarded!!
How the heck did Lucas Arts approve this abomination is beyond me!! /shrug
This whole game is slowly turning into one big joke! It has nothing at all to do with Star Wars anymore.
The idea behind it is that you had to have leveled a force user to level 50 and complete the class quest to unlock the ability.
Abonination? The Force being part of a family heritage has been in every Star Wars movie. Your father was a Sith Warrior and you're a smuggler. You think that you have absolutely no connection to the Force at all? Or, was your family so powerful in the force (i.e. level 50 hand of the emperor) that you can reach out with your rage once every 20 minutes to force choke one guy?
Not to mention the balance is going to make them more fluff than use. 20 minute cooldown that's based on your Heroic Moment ability which requires you companion out and alive. It's not going to be useful for PvP or blowing through content quickly. It's a 20 minute RP/fluff ability with some marginal usefulness.
The legacy system is not bad and you are correct. Han was a smuggler and Leia was a force user. Both of their kids became jedi/sith. The problem i have with Bioware/TOR is that, this stuff is all fluff and no substance. The game has some major lack of mmorpg features that makes it feel like a SPRPG with coop options.

With all the resources they have... is it really that hard for them to stick to the Star Wars Lore? Is it really that hard for them to come up with "REAL" unique epic abilities for each class that actually "FITS" the class?
Though the Force was thought to flow through every living thing, its power could only be harnessed by beings described as "Force-sensitive." This Force-sensitivity was correlated with, and sometimes attributed to, a high count of internal microorganisms called midi-chlorians that were found in a Force-sensitive's blood: the higher the count, the greater the being's potential Force ability, though there were some exceptions to this rule. Force-sensitive beings were able to tap into the Force to perform acts of great skill and agility as well as control and shape the world around them. -wookieepedia
Looks like legacy makes perfect sense to me. Time to nitpick something else.
Explain to me how allowing an agent access to force choke isn't unbalancing. 1.2 may be the patch, usually it takes an expansion, that runs me off.
Bioware has mentioned The legacy powers can only be used in PVE play, and agent getting force choke could use it to make his PVE experience easier, but it wouldn't be usable in PVP. That means that nothing would be unbalanced by that particular feature.
Explain to me how allowing an agent access to force choke isn't unbalancing. 1.2 may be the patch, usually it takes an expansion, that runs me off.
it's not unbalanced because it's pretty situational. can't be used unless you have your companion with you. means, most of the time, it's a solo ability. and who cares what you do when you're alone or in a very small group? doesn't work in pvp, or in flashpoints. so pfft. it's just fluff, guy. get over it.
I was about to see if anyone posted this video. Glad someone did. There is one part of the video that confuses the hell out of me but im guessing its a typo or some kind of error considering the Legacy stuff it said to be being introduced in 1.2
If you pause the video at 4:57 when the Legacy menu thing is open you can see on the top "Coming in 1.3!" Maybe some of the Legacy stuff they showed will not be released this next patch or maybe they made an error.
It's not going to bring in any subs though, I am sure those who are currently playing are happy their pure Sith is now related to a zebrak and a Twylek and they can mix and match their powers but no one who isn't playing is going to be drawn by it. No one will sign up because they always wanted to be a smuggler but the lack of force choke left them in two minds whether to sign up. One of the biggest reasons people are complaining on the forums is dead servers this does nothing to address that, the very few people I know still subbed are on the verge of quitting as they are stuck on light servers and don't want to reroll and grind through 50 levels to be able to play with anyone else. I don't think this patch will do much to stem the leavers or attract new blood.
Gotta love how the 'Game Sites' are still extolling the virtues of SWTOR despite the huge backlash from players.
There's been an unprecedented amount of negative comments from the majority of people who visit these sites, but the only 'official' correspondence from the hosts is still positively promotional, less they get the sack of course.

Yep, you're so spot on. It's funny to think that Bioware had all this money and took the easiest of routes. There's a reason that so many leave WOW for the newest mmo that comes out only to go back within the first month or so. It's not because poeple aren't tired of WOW, it's because it's the last of the mmo's to come out that still has a open game world feeling to it. These new games come out like STO, WAR, AOC, RIFT, TOR and promise the world and the same thing happens everytime. There's a leak from beta and it tells of how the game is very linear and on rails. The game world is nothing more than a path to the next quest hub even though it's looks very good.
Then more and more of the game comes out and you have the bashers and the fans going back and forth about the game and it's systems. The bashers see the flaws and the fans are so excited they turn a blind eye to the truth. The game release's with fanfare and sales are high and the fans tell the bashers, see you were wrong. Then about a month in, the flaws and what was said by the beta testers seem to be true. The fans think, no way, this can't be true, this was supposed to be the game that change's the genre and the way mmo's will be made.
Then what you have is the massive flock of people that decide that what they were sold was not good or even ok. It was crap wrapped in a pretty box and decides that the only mmo that is worth going back to is WOW, and goes back, just in time for a new expansion. They can go back and level up that new race and explore that new region and do the whole thing over when a new mmo comes out.
The reason why this happens and now has become the standard in this genre, is because, the dev companies can't get it through their thick fucking skulls that mmo players in my opinion don't want a on the rails game world with nothing but combat to do 24-7. they want a open alive world where exploration actually means something and not just a pretty map with an X that tells you to go there. They want social tools that builds a strong community and open world pvp that happens anywhere and everywhere. Hey, devs, make a real freaking mmorpg that when you think it is full featured you add a shit more to even that and you will then have created something worth the sub price.
Is it just me or is the whole Legacy system is just a handfull of things that almost every other MMO already have but they have just group them all and called it a Legacy "system". To call it "groundbreaking" is a little much.

You are correct, some of the legacy features are not being shipped until 1.3, those include more things related to making levelling an alt easier such as mounts at level 1.
still 25 days before my already-paid sub is up. I guess I'll learn the dangers of getting a 3 month sub some day...
I didn't think they could make top-end consular gear look worse but 1.2 will be proving that incorrect. The whole force ability on non-force characters just doesn't feel right in game terms no matter what nice words they try to wrap it up in.
Maybe I'll check it out again in 18-24 months after the population continues to decrease.
The Legacy system is all well and good but how about fixing something that is dear to most Star wars fans and that is SPACE. Space is not a mini game, it was not a mini game in the movies either. We want a fully fleshed out Space and not some silly mini game on rails. Dont get me wrong I have been one of SWTOR biggest supporters on these forums, but a major component of Star Wars is Space and we SWTOR biggest fans would like you to work on it immediately

As much as I agree with the game needing a fully fleshed out space system, think about. There is no way players are going to get a full space system before either an expac, or at least patch 1.5~. Designing these things, especially if you want a good space system, is going to take time. If its that big of an issue for you, I'd unsub for a while, and just check back around fall or something.

they are planning to fully expand the space but its not in the next patch - perhaps by end of the year

Guess you havent heard the Arena Net developers of Guild Wars 2? Everything they created is either ground breaking or innovative, according to them.

Explain Explain Explain, so much Explanation through so many patches really cant be healthy.
kinda sad, but not about not resubbing, but about them rehashing the same old mmo model.
./waves at bioware
and that's all you had to enter a game already in the time of its release, but now it just looks like another gimmick to attract new players!
you're right! how dare they have mmo news on the biggest patch of tor so far! i mean, what do they think this is? an mmo site? pfft.
they should do more stories about what's happening with pong.
edit: cuz pong is oldskool and oldskool means yer kewl.

Oh the game they could have had... had SOE fired Smedley, rolled back the NGE and allowed SWG to just progress...
Lol, love your icon! It has some hyper hyper! XD
As to the Legacy system... I will judge it when I see it. So far it seems to me though Bioware should have focussed on more pressing things.

They are still using Hi-Res textures for game trailers.

1 question for this legacy system the alts and main toon have to be on the main server or it can be accross servers on my account
