I will be playing Tera, but I think the questing system is very boring so its turning off a lot of people.
I dont know if it changes much after level 20 , but the start its really boring questing.
So we will see if the combat will be enough to get it going and see if the end game is any good
only played to level 16 meself but this is it for me really....the combat improved alot at lvl 8 or so as an archer , but still, didnt see it as much diffrent from the ordinary MMO, still just got into a rotation and nothing were really hard - would expect those to come later though, at that perspective Id even think it have potential to be really good
werent as bored as usual though playing this game, cant really put my finger on why ....played longer in the beta than Ive done in the last couple of years in an open beta of a MMO ...
My fear for TERA is that when GW2 launches and sells millions of boxes EME will get jumpy and make a hasty decisions. If EME holds it's sail firm through the dip and is smart with how they run TERA you will see a larger population six months from now IMO.
TERA is indeed a solid game that continues to improve. Past the gimmicks and hype of other titles I think players will eventually catch on. If not it won't bother me a bit. I'm not looking for this months game, I plan to be here a while.

As an archer I was doing crazy pulls. Multiple mobs wherever possible (anywhere from 2 to 8), moving around them to round them up, placing traps to slow their movement speed, using my kick combo skill to stun if needed, jumping back (two kinds) and placing a well aimed shot with two charges hitting all of the enemies at once
I recorded some of my adventures but I wasn't too happy with the flow of the videos so I decided to do that with my retail character, for every time I would get an important skill up to max level. To show how I manage combat.
The game felt like I was playing Forsaken World or something similiar. Cannot justify a monthly sub on this one.
I haven't tried it but it looked very similar to Forsaken World to me.
With the other games out and coming out soon, it doesn't really offer much. It looks destined to be a F2P within a year or so.
They aren't even close... Forsaken World is pretty much a WoW clone thats P2W. Seriously i played it for a while and i literaly thought i was playing freaken WoW with a broken P2W cash shop and probably well much less content. Its not remotely close to Forsaken World at all.

heh always doing this if find it being possible without crippling myself :P meaning if a class Id play only have single target abilities its just a waste. but that is something I got called out on, for doing in EQ2 when started playing that game, of some reason it were looked bad upon...either way found the combat pick up really nice after afew levels, the start were very boring combat wise to me, maybe since had read it supposed to be action so had expected more from the start.
over all werent too impressed with this game, especially not based on the first few levels, but at the end actually considered to buy it as a "while waiting" game
People are cautious about this game. Aside from combat, there are areas wheree there's pretty much NO innovation at all, as though they included the things just so they could say the game had it.
The box-price is probably going to be a big hurdle to getting a big starting audience. More and more people just aren't interested in a cover charge these days. And when you're talking about a game that should (theoretically) provide many months of entertainment (with a sub), there's some justification for that.
A big point in favour atm is (at least in NA) that EME has been showing a surprising interest in tweaking and improving things over the KR version. Things like revamping the enchant system and the auction house system, and they've talked about an even sharper ramp-up of the early-game difficulty, to actively encourage people to embrace the combat system. They've even hired new voice actors to redo some key roles, and chosen some fairly big names for it. Considering that most MMO's coming out of Asia are just the original thing fed through a translator, I'm happy to see all this.
On top of that, KR-Tera/Bluehole has been fairly aggressive in trying to fix the shortcomings that caused it's poor start. Things like content, viability of activities besides instance-running, open-world events, and so on. It's cause for encouragement in my books. The game isn't going to be a genre-changer, but I think it'll get itself a good-sized niche and at least rank as a genre-improver. If it raises the overall genre even the tiniest bit, that'll be a good thing.
A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs: That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.
this game is awesome. the box price is nothing compared to the constant fun and hours and hours of entertainment. i pay $30 for 2 people to go to he movies for 2 hours. i prefer paying a paultry fee per month if it means that there is a team of people constantly tweaking the game to make it better instead of free to play where the game just has bugs, no fixes and zero support.
My guess is that, for the first time in a long while, people are actually just enjoying the game. The hype machine usually gets rolling hardcore when a long-awaited game turns out to be mediocre and people post wishful thinking and half-truths in hopes of self-delusion.
I have been very reserved in my promotion of this game, both here and to friends and guildies simply because I know I have found a good thing here. I don't feel like I need to shout this out and I couldn't care less who on these forums plays it with me. I also believe that the fundamental aspects of TERA will slowly make it more and more successful on its own merit without much help from its fanbois.
TL;DR - Can't be bothered to hype. Too busy playing TERA.
I think it's being eclipsed by diablo 3 and gw2. The game is really fun and has a lot to offer. The quests can be a little grindy ( kill 10 of this or 5 of that) but with the fun combat system it's not a chore. If this game was coming out at a different time it would be way hyped.
I played the beta and I can honestly say if it didn't plan t have a subscription I would pick it up.
Sub games are become a thing of the past.
This i agree.
Also after playing various beta weekends i had to cancel my pre order and get a refund. I love the graphics and the character models but that is not enough to keep me paying a subscription. The lack of free mobility while in combat also helped me decide to cancel.
Personally? I think it is over-hyped. I think Guild Wars 2 hype can actually be justified and I'm not even a Guild Wars fan. However, I clearly don't understand any of the hype surrounding Tera. I played on a couple of beta weekends and the best work I have to describe it is...yawn. But maybe it's just not my kind of game. To me, if just felt like a new spin on the typical Asian grindfest. So, I don't know. I certainly do think better games are coming out this year.

Same way for me. It's weird, I don't talk about this nice little game at all. I'm in a guild too, and we're just keeping it on the down low. No need to hype it. I've got a feeling it will start small and grow instead of being hyped to the sky then failing expectations. Very refreshing.
I'd say the caveat is that you need to be in a guild to get the most out of this game. There's a lot of content that is absolutely best expereinced that way. If you play this game solo it's half the fun it can be.
the major things why I dislike Tera and will not play is becasue of the following:
Its Asian themed
has anime/maga looking character i.e. popori and the lil 5 year old female only race
The male characters are to feminine and girly looking
Fighting Reindeer, treemen, Bumble Bees, and plishie toy like mobs.
self rooting on combat animations
generic (even more generic then WoW or Rift) go kill 5 treemen, return and get another quest to collect 4 treemen hearts. I detest fed-ex and kill tasks as a form of questing.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.

Aww Popori were the best part, how could you not love kicking a$$ with a cute and chubby kitty-kitty?
Tried out Tera beta and no, its not a game for me. Nothing in it interests me. UI was annoying, quest system also. And truly not a fan of anime games it turns out.
Just played the beta this weekend and sadly, I wont be playing. It isnt so much the games fault, but the people in it. I dont mind at all "anime" style looking games, or what some call asian based games. I do not mind having a male character that looks like a model for under'roos (hah). I can find comical the animal type race and the small cat like "kitty" race, its not like there arent gonna be Pandas in that WoW game I hear so much about...... but what killed it was the people.
I must say, I've played a few asian style games, Aion, Perfect World, Runes of Magic (I consider it so cause of the pretty people) Lineage and a few others and I must say, those games have the absolute most terrible people who every play games. I would rather setup a shop in Barrens that does nothing but take complaints from 15 year olds who lost their stuff than play TERA.. and thats bad.
The game had some good choices and some nice moves and was fun to be on to be honest but then, every few minutes someone calls another a pedophile or a slut for no good reason. Then they will start up on other games, bashing the hell out of them "This game sucks, your all stupid and Im going back to blah blah".. or something similar. What killed TERA for me, was the community in it. I know there are those types in all games, but trust me, this game is litered with them to an obscene level.
Is Tera any good ? I don't hear mutch about this game. And last thing I did hear was that korea has a cash shop in it right now. So why did this game not really succeed in Korea ? And why would it be different in EU and NA ? I bought the game already but have not played it yet. I like PvP and the combat sounds awesome too, but they don't really give you a reasen to PK somone which makes it fun to PK just for no reasen, but I bet it gets boring prety quick. Does this game has any content that keeps you around for a while ? Or is it like Rift where you run trough content in a week or two and then you leave and never come back ?
I would guess there is less employee hype being created. The larger studios always have their PR in certain forums creating hype for their game.

The games that generate hype are the games that are not played by people. GW2, D3, Planescape 2 etc are all games that look good, but most of us don't know how they'll pan out to be. SW:TOR seemed pretty awesome on paper (on press betas etc) as well and was decent for a while, but it took a month to realise how much of a disappointment it ended up to be (for me obviously).
Heh, I actually liked the Popori. Anyway, I think TERA's timing was bad, there are at least two other big name games coming out shortly. I didn't like what I played of TERA, but tastes vary and it might have nothing to do with whether or not the game is a quality product, just overshadowed.
I've not been as hyped as I am for TERA for any MMO recently, so I personally can't wait for it to come out. I think with GW2 being F2P & TERA being P2P, I'll be able to afford playing two different MMOs at the same time.
Then they will start up on other games, bashing the hell out of them "This game sucks, your all stupid and Im going back to blah blah".. or something similar. Tera was on the hype train for quite a while, it's already long in the tooth. GW2 is the new hype train. TOOT TOOT
the game was hyped. then they did their pre-order beta's, which was fine, excpet they drug the process out too long imo, and it killed the hype.
I've got the straight edge.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Not sure why it's separated, o well.
