If you're not swapping weapons, you're playing the game wrong.
Actually, like the OP, I have a very specific preference when it comes to weapons. I like using Bows and Swords exclusively. If the game will require me to swap weapons to maximize my output I guess I'll play a very minor role in PvP or avoid it entirely.
well i guess you dont know very much about game, whats wrong if you swap between sword and bow in fight,if you swap between those 2 weapons you should actually be pretty good in pvp...

So be a Ranger and just use bows and swords.. I'm confused as to what is so hard to understand. Plus only some professions can switch weapons and they can only switch between two... A Ranger can switch between a bow and sword.
If you just want to use a Bow you can... though I don't know why you would want to when you have a Warrior in your face.. sounds like you might not be that good in PvP... or at least not good in startegic pvp..
Guild Wars 2 skill system is extremely simple. You get 5 attack skills depending on what weapon you equip. 5 skills sound lame? Yes it does. Don't like it? Swap weapons and get 5 different ones.
Personally, I like to play a warrior with duel swords. I hate clubs and 2he swords and axes, etc. You can do this in GW2, but if I do, I will be stuck with the same 5 skills the whole game.
This is innovation?
Truth: Not everyone is going to like the design decisions Anet has made. Truth: You may show your displeasure by not purchasing there product. Truth: If enough people feel as you do, and don't purchase, Anet will fail miserably. Truth: Anet, will not fail miserably.

Given your post... I picked up my stapler in my office... unlached it for good measure and immediately began attempting to find a way to use it in more then five ways to bludgeon my secretary...
I was unable to complete the test as the first horizontal swing knocked her out pretty good....
I'll keep you all updated once she regains her composure. However, this may take awhile as I'm guessing that my vertical swing is just gonna wreck her shit. I think I could get to five if I include some kind of twirlling strike of sorts. I'll let you know.
Thanks for that. It's the perfect blend of reason and absurdity for this thread.
I think what some folks have to realize not just about GW2 but about games in general is that some games do things differently and these differences have both pros and cons. Yes, the whole weapon swap thing does mean that you won't be able to just "specialize" in one weapon and perform at maximum efficiency. But at the same time, it gives weapons a lot more meaning and flavor than they usually have in systems that do not attach skills directly to weapons.
I guess some folks always want games to have the exact same features, and they are entitled to their opinion of course, but personally, I think that's boring. If every game I played did weapons the exact same way, I would get bored fast. So basically, I'm happy that GW2 is putting a new "spin" on weapons.
You can play with one weapon set and be fairly effective if you wish, I've looked at some builds for guardians where I could use one weapon set without switching and be effective, ofcourse this depends on how well you make your characters.
You also can have a weapon set with minor variations. For instance, do you far two handed sword and have a one hand sword and shield.
Still, everything wil lcome down to how you play your character. If you are only going to have one weapon set, you would need to make sure you have utility abilities that will support you while your abilities are on cooldown.
For your traits you'll want as many tings as possible that will both reduce your cooldowns for that particular weapon and enhance your f1 abilities.
It's going to be about your playstyle, pve or pvp. Ive seen dozens of videos. In a lot of them the person uses one weapon set for the duration, switching to the other for situations.
This is a very dungeon and dragons way of doing things. I plan on playing an engineer with little weapon swapping in pvp. Just two pistol and a lot of movement hampering.

Basically, people who can't adapt don't like new things.
Who'd have thought it?
Thanks, lol. At lease you got it.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
