Best looking MMO as of April 2012?

I've just been playing Metro 2033 in 3D vision on a super rig and it's frankly a beautiful experience, and it got me thinking.

It's obviously harder to get MMOs to be as good looking as a single player game with lots of players in the same space etc... but which MMOs give it a go?

So the question is: which MMO has the best graphics - includes animation smoothness, DX11 features, all the performance stuff by which we evaluate how advanced FPS graphics are.

What do you guys think?

Let's see no MMO has DX11 support. But the best looking would be AoC hands down. However, best looking means nothing in the MMO world because it kills open world gameplay.

Unsure about all your requirements but...

Age of Conan for released titles (even with its "age")

For non released...I would say Archeage and then Tera.

Tera,  previously my favorite was AoC. I cannot throw Vanguard into the mix because it fails in character models and animation but the environments are gorgeous.

GW2 is supposed to have absolutely amazing visuals with full 3D support.

Apparently they demo'd it at a trade show, however I am unsure if support is in for release or not.

TERA has very, very impressive visuals full maxed/tweaked out, I'd say they are currently the "best."

AoC definitely. I've played most major MMOs, including TERA over past weekend.  The quality of TERA is excellent, but i'm really not a fan of the art style at all, so that has me choosing AoC still.

Although, I'd say that EVE's characters are better than either of those - both in quality and art style.  However, given that all you can do with EVE characters is walk around a station, it probably doesn''t count for this comparison.  Look out for that engine when it gets applied to a real game though!

Gonna say Vanguard still, I don't know why because I know many games have better models etc, maybe because it has that huge open world thing, not sure.

For currently released I will say AOC still. Tera is good too but still not as good as AOC is.

    1. TERA

    2. Age of Conan (AoC)

I have only seen Guild Wars 2 on YouTube so I cannot say but I will be playing in the Beta Event this weekend so my list can/will change :)

My 3 favourites Tera, Rift and EVE.

I guess GW 2 too but I'll be sure next week :)

Going to say Age of Conan. I did see Tera in beta and although it looks good, I think AoC looks better overall.

Entropia Universe...It definitely isn't the best MMO but it has the best graphics far and away......AoC doesn't even come close imo.

I think Tera is the best techinically, I like AoC's style more though.

World of Wa........nah, just kidding, Age of Conan is still the best looking MMO even if it is a few years old now.

    Age of Conan

Shame that's the only good thing about the game though.

Although I haven't played it, I've enjoyed many of the screen shots from FF14.  The graphics look amazing.  Of the games I have played....AoC is probably the best.

LOTRO has DX 11 support, but they only use a few features so it isn't too much better than DX 10.

RaiderZ soon to be in CB(played Alpha graphics were really nice and smooth), AION, and soon to be GW2.

Right now it is AoC and FF XIV but Tera is launching soon and it is really pretty.

GW2 is not that far away either, it have excellent art but less polygon count so which has best graphics is kinda up to you.

Oh, and don't forget TSW, it looks great as well.

  • GorillaGorilla Member UncommonPosts: 2,235

I wonder if the majority give the edge to AoC over Terra because they prefer the art style? I do like its grittiness. I think I'd give Terra the edge particularly when you concider it's open environments and how well it runs on modest hardware.

You're all gonna hate me for this but...Champions Online looks just like the source material just pick up any marvel comic book circa 1960 or later. When I play CO I am amazed how good they got it, I'm glad they're putting more work into this, they recently had a great update. Still the game needs more(way more) content. But as far as looks go, they really nailed it. BTW, I love the look of all the other games mentioned, I just think CO looks exactly the way it should.

released: Age of Conan by far.

Coming: GW2 (beats TERA for me not in details but with better/best art-direction)

I say AoC because I can play with its graphics on high with my laptop that had moderate gaming specs but I cannot play Rift at medium or low.... AoC has great optimized graphics as well as looking good.
