Barring Asheron's Call, Planetside, and a few others, this is still one of the most skill-based PvP MMOs on the market, hands down.
SIDE NOTE because this really annoys me...
The tales of ganking are extremely overstated, by the way.  I am now level 45 on a pvp server (playing casually for a couple hours per night) and have been ganked probably 5 times, actually dieing maybe 3 of those times.  People tend to get ganked one time while they are zoned out, not paying attention (FYI if you are alert, hardly anyone can gank you - there are too many escape mechanics in the game and it's hard to catch a mounted character), and rage about it like they are totally incapable of progressing.  There are channels in every low-to-mid level area.  Stay out of channel 1.
And just for good measure: PvE servers -> that way.

I was in Lumbertown a few days ago and there were a pair of lvl 35 blocking the bridge and I saw at least 60 people one shotted by these guys and some of the people who were one shotted were only a few lvls lower, sometime it took 2 shots but no more than that

If it makes you feel better, their infamy level debuff makes it so that any like level players will wipe the lfloor with them.

Seems like an awful lot of theory-crafting PvP going on in this thread. I have personally been shocked with how little pvp there has been since the games release. Started out on Jagged Coast and haven't looked back, the lack of PvP on the PvP servers is somewhat disappointing, yet we can still complain like gankers are running amuck. Sounds like a first world problem.

Also... are we serious here trying to "fix" the issue? If you remove one benefit from a ganker they are just going to find another way to gank you. You guys can theorycraft problems with PvP all you want, but the bottom line is that its NOT really an issue except in rare cases.

Fix level differences gankers will just form groups to outnumber you. Try to hurt gankers by preventing them from using towns, people will just make dedicated ganking alts (ala UO). Add more pvp-free areas (which btw there are already a TON of pvp-free areas) and they will just find the best chokepoint or escort quest to gank you.

You can "fix" the system all you want, gankers gonna gank.

Well, I was going to advise those folks who were getting one shotted in Lumbertown to consider switching channels, but your reply has me curious, what exactly is the penalty from the infamy level debuff?  Not sure I've ever seen the details on it and has it been implemented in the US servers or strictly a KTERA feature?

There is on debuff like in KTera, however they are perm flagged until the infamy goes away and they loss crystal when they die.

    1) come to feral valley and enjoy getting farmed.

    2) its not theory, its fact. there is a difference. watch the youtube video, listen to everyone else who is playing the game.

    3) of course gankers are going to gank. this is not an anti-ganking thread. this thread is about addressing the unnecessary EZmode that higher levels get when killing lower players. sure gankers will attack you when you are at half health fighting a mob, sure they will outnuber you, sure they will outlevel you... why give them an even more added benefit just for being higher level than you(and not even having better gear)?

Personally, I like to gank as well. but its a lot more fun when you chase prey and they have some sort of chance. Its like deer hunting. you have a gun, they dont have any weapons really, but there is a thrill to it because they have some slight chance of escaping. alternatively, you could kill a deer that is already sick, dying, and inside a cage. Not as fun.

This is just the problem with PvP servers in general, which is why there is a wide selection of pve servers as well. If a game has leveling in it, and pvp, there is never going to be an even ground if the pvp is open. Unless they do major debuffs on the high levels or limit the areas you can pvp in and then at that point it wouldn't be an open world pvp game. WoW, Darkfall, Mortal, Lineage 2, and pretty much any game I can think of with open pvp even in certain leveling areas, will always punish the lower level player. Its something I have learned to accept in my pvp servers, and I just tend to log out for a while if I'm getting camped or switch channels if that option is available (which in Tera it is).

Ok! Fine! they'll rewrite the whole game so you don't have to level or at least so that level is completly meaningless.

Christ, what are you people arguing at this point?

This is true for every game on every server type. Think of what it's like being the first to gain access to some of the high end crafting materials.

This seams like an interesting thread. I do somewhat question the "seriousness" of this issue.

    A) I have been involved in random pvp and have killed ppl higher level. First at 17 and my roomie at 20 two level 25's tried to gank us. They lost becuase they were retarded. They actually both went after the Lancer (my roomie) and let my castanic slayer attack them from behind. After first pk'er died the second tried to run which usually means free kill.

    B) I did get one shot one outside Lumbertown but those types of lame gankers just sit at the bridge and there are other ways to get to that portion of the map (easy ways) without crossing the bridge.

    C) While grinding Ive seen little ganking and when i do i usually see the people in that area team up and smoke the higher level gankers (like gankers would ever fight an even fight lol)

Yes being higher level gives you an advantage but at least in my personal experience it is not insurmountable and when it does happen it is rare.

While I also think this thread is full of eye-rolling statements the level/gear scaling only really comes into play after you've hit like level 40. Perhaps some in the 30s, but still not that bad. As an example lvl 43 to lvl 44 my weapon as a lancer went from 650dmg to 1050dmg.

I do give the Dev a great amount of credit for making several channels, at least you can quest or gather or LOL cross the bridge at Lumbertown in peace, and then if you want some action just go to a high channel.  Let me ask you a question though, If I attack you and you come after me can I just go to a different channel or is it locked at that point?

Yeah grind to max level as fast as humanly possible...something 90% of mmorpg player do regardless of a reason to.

Yup blow through the game in a few weeks then start to complain how theres nothing to do at endgame...you know so you dont get stomped in pvp...sounds like a win to me (/s)

Ill enjoy the combat, getting ganked means nothing in this game, i could care less when i get one shot.
