The question... Why are people wanting to pay monthly for content!
I hope you realize that ArenaNet's policy on content is to release a $60 dollar expansion every 4-6 months, just like they did for Guild Wars 1. So basically you are paying a 12-15 dollar subscription fee (similar to most other P2P MMO's), with the only difference being you are paying this one in lumps instead of in small portions. In fact this model can be worse because it means new content will only come in large batches instead of constantly being added into the game ala Rift.
Also I hope you realize that almost all Triple AAA MMO's this year and in the foreseeable future where in fact, P2P. SWTOR, Tera, TSW, Archeage, Blade and Soul, etc are all in fact subscription games. I like this method far more than the bundled expansion pay model Guild Wars has historically used because the constant cash flow lets them focus on the game instead of on the next expansion to generate more revenue.
Long story short, I would rather pay monthly for content then pay the same aggregate amount every 5-6 months for something like Guild Wars. It is a more flexible system for both us and the developers, and chases a lot of the casual impulse buyers away quickly so only those who actually enjoy the game remain.
Originally posted by monstermmo I think its sad that people are willing to pay more money for a less quality game through a ridiculous cash shop than to pay a monthly sub for a quality game. However i also believe any sub based game should not have a cash shop, thats also beyond ridiculous.
Obviously you guys are not playing on the GW2 weekend events!!! There is zero need to go to the stores!!! Its totally cosmetic! There is simple no reason to pay anymore! Other games out there just want more $$$ thats their business model! Charge for media, monthly subscriptions, even a store (Tera)! Ill stick to a game such as GW2 that will not even release until its bug free!!!! Can Tera say that?? NO! just go look on the forums! I have!
Stop being foolish and go take up your place on the GW2 board.
Thanks.

I've said it once and i'll say it again, GW2 b2p model attracts children.
This is a fine example.
So now we are going to get into a school yard brawl??? Interesting! I always loved listening to immature talk… keep it up! I’m not interested in this thread anymore anyways! I’ve already gotten the answer I was searching for!

/sigh Gotten isn't a word, you created this topic solely with the intent of making a GW2 VS TERA debate, as evidenced by the only "pro" game you sited was GW2, if you truely were interested in debating a topic you would have come in with a well rounded arguement, not "if you had played the beta you'd know it was good" mentality.
Where is your empirical data?
Where is your objectivity?
I'm glad that you found meaning in people siting an example of a payment model that makes vauge assumptions that has been linked on this site for almost a decade. The rest of us found it wanting.
Anet has yet to release any information pertaining to expansion models and the like in regards to GW2.
Might be an idea to wait and hear what they have planned before you begin theory crafting the ins and outs of which model will be more expensive.
Or not, up to you I guess.
Yep, yet everyone on both sides likes to randomly guess and hypothetically "win" at who pays the least game, all for things that we have no idea about yet.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out! They have to make money somehow to keep the servers running and the devs paid!
With a B2P game they have two choices:
1) Frequent PAID expansions
2) A fully fledged Pay2Win Cash Shop like the average F2P game out there.
I don't know about you? But I rather go for option number 1 !

True but what we do know is that its a company and like all companies they Are out to make money. I dont mind any of the models as 15 bucks a month is nothing nor paying 60 bucks every 4-6 months for an expansion

I am assuming they will follow the same expansion model as GW1, because there is no economic reason not to. They already know people will pay it, and they know that box sales will be a large portion of their revenue.
My usual rule of thumb is that if it makes financial sense, they will probably do it. Say what what you want about NCsoft but they will never slack on an income oppurtunity. Plus NCsoft/ArenaNet have been huge fans of boxed expansions historically, I see no plausible reason why they would discontinue this very lucrative practice.
Stop being foolish and go take up your place on the GW2 board.

Post on your main next time and perhaps I'll join in the debate with you.
Know that a certain segement of the market will always be willing to pay a sub fee for premium service/quality.
It remains to be seen if GW2 will deliver to those expectations with a B2P/cash shop model.

So doesn't option one make it exactly like P2P? When i think about it its worse, in P2P games if you get bored you unsub for few month save liek 30 dollar than wait for update hit and you resub. B2P? well expansion cost money so even if yoru bored for the 2 out of 6 month between expansion when you brought the expanison you payed for 6 month.

Wait so extra inv space, extra bank space, and extra character space are consider cosmetic? Well thats new.
Also what bug? Aside from like 3 quest bug (yes only like 3 quest are bugged) and some minior hit box issue with terrian collision Tera has no bugs. And if you look at the Tera forum its all about lancer and cashshop nothing about bugs. Also if they waiting to fix all the bugs in GW2 well you can wait till next year for it considering how the Beta went lol.
I love how everyone thinks GW2 will change all future mmorpgs, its not give up on that wild fantasy. GW2 will be justl ike D3, it will sell a lot of copys everyone will play it for few month. Than it will end up just like GW1 as something people play on and off but never as their main like WoW. What keep people playing WoW, rift, Tera, (not sure about SWTOR) is end game. The character progroession and gear grind give their character purpose and makes it hard for people to quit. GW2? Not so much when you can just make character and jump to 80 for BG and WoW (not that its a bad thing) and PvE is pretty much going through your personal story which is nice but like SWTOR once yours through there is nothing. W/O gear progression GW2 has no PvE substability, once you go through 1-80 on every class thats yet there is no more PvE. All your left is with BG and WvW which people have been doing since lvl 1. So yes lot of people will play it but it will be something people play on a off with whatever main game their playing. So P2P games will still do just as well, GW2 isn't going to change that.
